GAS, but I guess you have to expect that from a big suv like this one. After a while I was not to impresed with 3rd seat because I have to take it out just to load groceries and the seat is really high. The Stereo system is ok but they are on the door so if you slam the doors the speakers sound seems to sound really bad. The Seat are a little hard but its really not that bad... Expedition EB
Strength:
- better gas mileage than expected (15-17 mpg city/highway mix)
Weakness:
- High-end torque is low makes passing at highway speeds tough I recently bought a 4.6L 2wd Expedition and have enjoyed it thoroughly in the short time I've owned it. This was a big jump and improvement for me in cars (my last car was an '84 Volvo). This car spoils me. It handles very well for a large truck. A lot of things are better than I initially expected (gas mileage, turning radius, ride). I could not justify the added initial expense of the 4x4 w/5.4L V8 not ro mention the increased monthly expense of getting 13-14 mpg. More power would be nice, but the power and ride of the 4.6L 2wd is sufficient. Unless you plan on towing, going off-road frequently, or hauling 8 full-size adults in your vehicle uphill, there is no real need to have the 4x4 w/5.4L V8. It'll drain your wallet. Comfortable, smooth ride, nice looking, powerful
Weakness:
gas mileage I LOVE my truck!!!!!! Not only does it turn heads but it is comfortable, roomy, and by far the smoothest riding SUV I have ever been in. The gas mileage could be better but that would be my only gripe. I owned a 97 Dodge Grand Caravan BIG MISTAKE!!!!!! That transmisson went 2x's in 30,0000 miles so out test driving I went, I drove every SUV with a 3rd seat and none held a candle to the Expedtion (well except maybe the Lincoln Navigator...if you have $60,000 to spend go for it)It has every option I could ever need and I dont get stuck in the snow anymore!! :) Similar Products Used: Dodge Durango(too small),Chevy Tahoe (rode like a tin can on wheels) Chevy Suburban (close race but the Expedition was smoother and prettier)burban...tried them all. |

gas mileage the expedition kicks. We do everything with this vehicle from long (and I mean long) trips to hauling our boat and goin off-roading. today my mom had to go to court because some lady side-swiped her while in the expedition and it only sustained minor damages mostly to the body while the little Honda that the lady was driving was totaled. ergo, this is one heck of a safe vehicle. An outstanding SUV, much better than the Explorers (3) I've owned, or the Grand Cherokee and Blazer owned by friends.
Weakness:
--Terrible gas mileage, but you have to expect that going in If you can afford the gas and need the hauling capacity, this is a great choice. Similar Products Used: I've driven '90, '92 and '95 Explorers and none of them were as good a value as this vehicle. |

Expedition Regency Conversion
Strength:
Dollar value: Do not buy the Eddie Bauer until you have looked at the Regency Conversion of the Expedition. We saved more than $4,000 and got much more. With 4 grandkids, we wanted the entertainment center with captains chairs. You have never heard a car so quiet as ours with the tv/vcr on and 4 headsets on each grandchild. Before you know it, your trip is over. Re: The Expedition itself, lots of space, very comfortable,
Weakness:
We have owned our vehicle for 13 months and have driven it 42,000 miles. Our only problem so far has been an air suspension valve that went out and put us off the road. An ABS light went on and it turned out to be a bad sensor, and the fluid light on the instrument panel stayed on with full fluid. They had to replace the entire assembly as the sensor is part of the package. Please review my comments on strengths and weaknesses. Similar Products Used: None |

Expedition E B 4wd
Strength:
The 5.4l has plenty of power. The truck handles well on and off road. The truck has a high clearance compared to my 1995 chevy Tahoe 4X4.
Weakness:
Gas Mileage. Ford should consider a larger gas tank, I miss my 42 gal tank I had in my 1993 GMC Suburban. I would like more cargo space behind the third seat. Went on a trip to Atlanta, GA for the Peach Bowl (Go Tigers - LSU), with six adults we had no room for luggage. Had to sit three in the middle seat and use half the third seat for luggage. I like the Expy and would recommend this vehicle, with the 5.4l and the load leveling suspension. It has a different ride than the GM products I have owned but I like it. I owned a 1993 Ford Explorer and there is no comparison to the Expy. I would never own another Explorer, but I would buy another Expedition. Strength:
Our Ex. is a 1997 XLT with the 5.4 v8, and most all the interior creature comforts (leather, CD-changer, rear AC, center console, electric everything etc.). It has an excellent ride on highway and smooth surfaces. The turning radius is unbelievable (tight) and the vehicle handles extremely well in parking lots and on narrow roads. The 5.4 is extremely peppy and has excellent passing power on two-lane roads. Although the GM 350 reports the faster quarter mile, you would never know it if you drove the two engines side by side, in fact you would swear that the 5.4 would blow the 350 away. Roominess is one of the Ex's biggest attributes (you can practically play basketball in the back seat). Also, the cargo space seems to be higher than the GM products, which gives it an advantage on toting larger items in the back (though suburban wins on long items). Lastly, the Ex has been very reliable. Aside from a few factory recalls (first year vehicle), we have only had to have it in the shop once in 51,000 mi (3 years) for a minor repair on an idle selenoid.
Weakness:
One of the Ex's strengths is also a weakness in that there is lots of road feel in the steering wheel....that is you feel the little imperfection in the road, thus on really bumpy roads (like some around here in the Bayou State), things can be a little rough. However, it is considerably smooth over the larger imperfections in the road. Also, I think the engineers got the speed sensitive steering backwards, the wheel should be less responsive at high speeds, and more responsive at slow speeds (when your more likely to make a sharp turn). The steering takes awhile to get used to. Yes I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who prefers to drive a Sport Ute, especially if you plan on taking long trips. The Ex is the large SUV that handles and feels like a small SUV but has a much smoother, refined ride and more utility (hey, it's bigger), so don't waste your time with an Explorer or Blazer. Besides, equally equipped, there is not that much difference in the price, and there is also not alot of difference in the gas mileage (if you ease up a bit on the peddle). If you buy one, GET THE 5.4 V8, the 4.6 dosn't get better gas mileage and dosn't have squat for power. I'll promise you that all the yahoos who say the Ex is not powereful have the 4.6 V8. Additionally, get the limited slip differential, especially if you have to drive on icy roads. We payed approximately $27,700 bran-spankin new (Yes...that's right, $27,700; It pays to do your homework and deal with a dealer on dealer invoice, however, at the time you would've been lucky to get one for anything under MSRP). Both my wife (the daily driver of the vehicle) and I have been totally satisified with our Ex, and provided you don't get a lemon (which exists in all vehicles) I'm sure you will be too!! I have the Eddie Bauer 4X4, Fully loaded with leather and power everything...great sound system and clean as a whistle! Perfect size...not TOO big, TONS of rooms for kids, grandma, friends and all their treasures, Luxury look and feel, Fabulously smooth ride, Rides "High" for a safe feeling, ...um...it's ALL good, really. It eats more gas but who cares? For such a nice vehicle with so much room and power, what does everyone expect? Of course "Eddie" needs more calories than the smaller SUV's! Hello! If anyone is worried about gas...stop complaining and go buy a tiny GEO!
Weakness:
NONE! I can't think of a single weakness. I had a Ford Explorer XLT and that truck was a good one...it just wasn't big enough! "Eddie" rides much smoother than the Explorer, too! I like Ford and think this is a wonderful SUV. I got a great price and an extended warranty for a great price, too so I'm feeling mighty good about this purchase. I will probably trade it in for another one before "Eddie" hits 80K miles as resale/trade-in value is much better. LOVE IT! You are gonna love it, too!
