Strength:

What a nice vehicle. I bought this one used for a reasonable price. Right now it has 80,000 miles and rides perfect.(V8 4.6)I like the nice looks, good towing ability, and the usefull accessories.

Weakness:

I dont think this vehicle has any except the many recalls.

I would rate this vehicle as a very great buy. It is easily customizable to your needs and is just a great vehicle. I recommend getting the dual ac's and the Clarion CD Changer. For the price, I dont think that one can find anything better.

Strength:

High vantage point when driving. Rides like a dream, even on our roads! Handles well for as big as it is and turns a surprisingly short radius. Rear seat heat/AC sure helps in cold climates.

Weakness:

This is a huge guzzler of gas, and at $2.69 a gallon in Nome - very expensive! Multiple problems with oil seals.

Until the many problems began, we LOVED this vehicle! It's loaded, roomy, safe, large enough for all the kids AND camping gear, pulls a boat with no problems, looks great, has an awesome sound system, backseat heat/AC is great for Nome, handles well and rarely gets stuck even in our harsh arctic climate. Then the problems started....Rear axle oil seals went at 19,000 miles and soaked the brake shoes with oil. Rear wiper works only when it wants to. The electric seat motor went out around 25,000 miles and the entire assembly had to be replaced. At 31,000 miles, the transmission failed and I have been waiting nearly a month for a replacement! Do NOT do any kind of business with Nye Frontier Ford in Wasilla! The Parts and Service people lie like wolves! Were it not that the warranty is about to expire, I would probably keep the vehicle in spite of the problems we've had simply because it costs about $4,000 to fly one up here! (There are no roads to Nome.)

Strength:

Lots of power in the 5.4 after chipped
roomy
safe to drive good visibility
nice to have adjustable pedals for the vertically challaged people
tows nice in the mountains
nice sound system
lots of lighting in the interior
leather seats are real nice to have with children
rear air works great
rear music controls are a nice feature
excellent in the snow and mud

Weakness:

blind spot while backing up I had to install a sensor to view beneathe tail gate for safety.
tires need improvement

I would recommend this vehile only if you are a person that does no mind spending the money on fuel. If you have to look at gas prices before you buy gas stay away from this vehicle. This is a very safe rig for any family member to drive. But you must always remember you pay for what you get!

Very bad quality,Not SAFE. I lost a wheel while driving at 65Mhr nearly got killed. Lost fron window frame while driving, engine is sucks. Ford company would learn this lesson hard way that mens their stock will fall because when consumer lacks confidence the company will be out of business.

BUT THIS CAR AT YOUR OWN RISK. I sold the car back to dealer.

Strength:

Powerful 5.4 Engine. I love the size of the interior, enough room for everyone in the family of four to sit very comfortably. Especially great on long trips! Handling is very tight and precise. The ride is pretty decent for an suv, especially with the load leveling suspension. I also prefer the looks of the expy compared other big suvs out there.

Weakness:

Steering could be a little less sensitive, especially for highway driving, it usually takes more driver effort for long trips.

I love this truck, it has awesome power and a spacious and comfortable interior. The ride and handling is more than what you would expect from a big suv like this one. When we bought this truck in 99 we compared it to the suburban, durango, tahoe, montero, and 4 runner. We chose the expy based on size, power, price, and looks. It was an easy choice that i would make again in a heart beat.

Strength:

Versatility, power, and handling.

Weakness:

Rear Cargo air with the third seat installed.

When the kids were young, the Voyager served us well. They are all teenagers now, causing the Voyager to ride on the ground. That was the main reason we purchased the Expedition. It has absolutely no problem carrying the family. It has a more comfortable interior (size) than the Durango.

I was pleasantly suprised at the way The Expedition handles. It holds the road far better than the Voyager.

It does have a lot more rear storage than the voyager and Durango but I wish it had more. The third folding seat of the Durango has it all of the removeable third seat of the Expedition.

The Expedition has plenty of power, even with the 4.6 liter engine. Ground clearance is also good. We have only had it for 6 months and did not have a single warranty problem.

Weakness:

Vibration/Moan at Highway Speeds from day one. This is a known problem with a service bulletin (SB#13725) Ford will work on the problem, but will not be specific about fixing the problem. It has even been mentioned that it is a truck and I am being rather particular. I know enough about vehicles to know it is a drive line problem. I believe Ford is trying to keep this problem from the public and it will go away with the new model change in 2002. This is the mackover year for the Expedition. There is no excuse for this problem in any car, much less a car that list for $42,000. Checking web sites will confirm there is a problem.

I would not recommend an Expedition due to the fact I believe this problem is know by Ford to exist and does not want to act promptly to correct a problem that affects some of the Expeditions. It seem to be a gamble. You either get a good one or a bad one. They do not want to address the bad ones because it might start other owners complaining. The real fix is probably expensive.

Strength:

Safety for transporting my wife and two sons a must. Love the interior space, handles fine, turns on a dime, and I don't have a problem with the steering as others seem to have (sloppiness). Heats up fast in harsh Upper Michigan climate. Fits easily in my garage. Recommend having leather conditioned professionally to help make it last longer.

Weakness:

Gas guzzler compared to smaller vehicles we have always owned, but that is the price you pay for safety and comfort.

I would recommend it to anyone who asked. 4x4 is a must in our climate. We have no regrets , although we have only owned it a short time. If gas prices drop back to reasonable rates, then it would be the "Perfect Beast"!
