AWESOME ENGINE AND DRIVETRAIN POWER !
LOVE THE LEATHER INTERIOR AND ALL THE OPTIONS!
THE SOUND SYSTEM IS ONE OF THE BEST OF THE FULL SIZE SUV'S !
HEAT AND A/C ARE VERY EFFECTIVE AND CLIMATE CONTROL IS THE BEST !
RIDE IS GREAT, FIRM BUT NOT TOOO HARD.
APPEARANCE IS STYLISH AND MORE RUGGED LOOKING THAN COMPETITION !
THIS VEHICLE HAS EXCELLENT ROOM FOR OCCUPANTS AND THE THIRD SEAT WILL COMFORTABLY HANDLE (2) FULL SIZE ADULTS AS LONG AS THEY AREN'T OVER 6'2"
LOVE THE POWER SIDE VENT WINDOWS !
HAVE RECEIVED MANY COMPLIMENTS ON THE SEAT HEATERS !

Weakness:

STEERING IS A LITTLE OVERSENSITIVE FOR MY LIKING, BUT IT HAS NO SLOP OR PLAY .
LEATHER DRIVERS SEAT HAS A TENDENCY TO SHOW WEAR (CRACK LINES) FROM ENTRY AND EXITS .
OVERHEAD CONSOLE NEEDS (2) ADJUSTABLE MAP LIGHTS FOR DRIVER AND PASSENGER USE . (SUCH AS IN THE BLAZER VEHICLES)

WE HAVE OWNED AND TEST DRIVEN MANY SIMILAR VEHICLES AND PREFER THIS VEHICLE TO ANYTHING NOW IN THE MARKETPLACE .
WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE (USED) AND HAD COMPARED IT TO ALMOST EVERY COMPETITIVE VEHICLE (NEW AND USED) WE FEEL IT HAS ALL THE BEST OF THE OPTIONS AND FITS ARE NEEDS BETTER THAN EVEN THE NEWEST OF SIMILAR VEHICLES!
NEW EDDIE BAUER UNITS ARE PRETTY EXPENSIVE, IF YOU DON'T NEED NEW, FIND A WELL MAINTAINED USED, OR DEMO UNIT AND YOU WILL RECEIVE THE MOST BANG FOR THE BUCK !
I AVERAGE APPROX 16 - 18 MPG BUT I DON'T DO ALOT OF BUMPER TO BUMPER TOWN DRIVING !
I'D DEFINITELY PURCHASE ANOTHER EDDIE BAUER EXPEDITION !

Strength:

1. Very powerful and quick start.(added superchip gives 40-50 more horsepower)
2.Roomy
3.Handles loose so you have control of evey move.
4.Stop time is very imperssive form a speed of 100mph.
5.4x4 combined with a winch has unbelieveable power.
6.A/C feels like a snow storm even at a constant sitting position.

Weakness:

1.Gas is a little high ,but what do you expect form a monster.
2.Tire traction very bad on highway.
3.Constantly spins win accelerated hard.

I recommend it to those who can afford it. My main interest was the power and speed when I choose the expedition over cadillac,GMC, and Chevorlet. Also a sporty look came with the package.

Strength:

The most impressive thing is the ride. I do have the load leveling, so maybe that makes the difference, but it rides better than our 3.2 Acura. After driving a Suburban this is like night and day. The Expy was purchased in the middle of May and has almost 9000 miles. The main use is for transporting kids and pulling a boat. The last test will see how the vehicle handles in the snow when we take it skiing. I thought it did well with corners going thru mountain passes and over rough roads as I spent the summer transporting my one son to various golf tournaments. The Expy is just easier to drive than the Suburban. My husband, who never drove the Suburban unless he absolutely had to, seems to want to drive the Expy all the time. It seems to pull the boat with ease, plus it's easier to back because the Expy is a little shorter, plus it sets higher and is easier to see out the window from behind.

Weakness:

The vehicle seems to have "gremlins" in the seat heaters. Sometimes they won't work. If you turn the auto off and then back on they'll work. My only other complaint is Ford needs to spray the paint a little thicker on the top. With this being a black vehicle there are a few places up on top where you can see the primer in the grooves. Also, the carpet is cheap looking. The only other complaint is you see your auto everywhere. Just on our street, in a two block radius, there are eight Expeditions.

The MSRP was almost $43000. The only thing it doesn't have is the reverse sensing and the side air bags. Love the moonroof. Purchased the Expy for under $35000. I was looking at the new 2000 body style Tahoe but just didn't care for the cheap interior. Though I do like the exterior look and GM finally put disc brakes on all four wheels. Then I finally decided I was going to buy a Navigator, but after test driving both autos, I went with the Expedition. With the load leveling on the Expy I couldn't really tell any difference in the ride. The Navigator is a bit more quieter on the road, but I couldn't get them to negotiate the same percentage off the auto. Plus the big downer on the Navigator is it runs on premium fuel. Though you do get the bigger engine. But premium gas is $2.00 a gallon in our area. Right now I am delighted with my Expedition. An older gentlemen friend was so impressed with the ride, that he's trying to decide on which color to buy.

First we had a Blazer, but it didn't have enough power to pull a boat up some of the mountain passes. It's scary when big semi's are blowing by you because you are going too slow. We then traded for a Suburban. It always pulled anything, but even with carefully scheduled maintenance it seemed to always have a nervous breakdown either the day we were scheduled to leave on a trip, or during the trip. It was the most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned. That's why I decided to jump ship and buy a Ford.

Roomy, carries 7 people easily.

Weakness:

Recently backed into a concrete piling at 10 mph. Damage was extensive. i was shocked to see how this BIG machine seemed more like tissue paper (damage was approximately $4,000.00). Two days ago I saw one in a wreck on II-95. It was demolished! I thought I was safe in this big truck, but my wife's Volvo gives me a more confident feeling. Also, dealership sucked! I've returned it three times to fix an ongoing problem..... major shimmy around 70 mph.

Can't compare to the Lexus RX 300 (same price). Would look at others in future. Just because you see hundreds of these on the road doesn't mean they're great SUV's, it only means that Ford has done a good job of marketing and selling this OKAY vehicle. Don't follow the crowd. Looks are deceiving, in more than one way1

2000 Eddie Bauer 5.4L w/rear air. 3.73 rear gear.
1.Good power (5.4L) for such a heavy vehicle
2.Great ride on the highway.
3.The AC/Heater work very well. Front and rear
4.Great mileage for a 6000lb tank!! combined city/hwy = 16 mpg
5.Good turning circle.
6.Fits in my small garage.
7.Seating for 8 w.removable rear seat.
8.Best styling in its class.
9.Everything in the engine compartment is well laid out for maintenence.

Weakness:

1.The steering is alittle rubbery. I like the tahoe steering better.
2.The ride is alittle hard around own(but I do have the towing package and the third row seating which gets you stiffer spring)

I did alot of research and over all I think I made the best decision with all thing considered. Wards automotive raved about the 1999 and later 5.4L engine. It got much better reviews than the chevy engines because of the flatness of the torque curve. And the overall engine configuration. I'd buy another one.

PLENTY of room. Good overall power and pulling. THe AC kicks butt.

Weakness:

For any one who complains about as mileage.. you should look at the Sticker gas mileage is 13/18 (average) and I do get abt 14 in city and 20 on highway.. Remember this is NOT A HONDA it not going to get 30 miles per gallon. Stop complaining... Leather in the sports package and eddie bauer is hard, if leather is a must figure in the price of getting leather at a cutomer car place.

Yes I would recommend this suv over the Surbaban. I fill it is a nicer suv plus it has a better looking body style.. The new Chevy's are UGLY.

I sold a 1995 4runner that was worse on gas and had NO POWER! Plus is was small. I fill the expedition will do a good job up to the quality of the 4runner or other wise I would not of bought it.. Toyota's are very goods cars BUT THEY ARE OVER RATED!

Roomy and comfortable

Weakness:

1. Rear wiper motor has never worked for more than a week after being repaired 2. Transmission is slipping, especially when powering from a full stop 3. Front wipers engage of their own accord 4. Overheats when in gridlocked traffic 5. Tires have weak grip on road 6. More fast than quick

I would recommend, from my experience with this vehicle, that you STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM IT and, from my experience with the dealership and Ford Motor Company, that you buy ANYTHING else. I have gotten nothing but denials and evasions from reps and lack of action (or ineffective action) from service centers. To sum it up, I gave $33,000 for a piece of crap and Ford Motor Company doesn't care.

Strength:

I feel safe. Visibility is excellent, part time 4X4 is great to have, fits in a regular sized garage, amazing handling for the size of truck, great sound system, good heater/AC (must in our area). Dash well set up, love those adjustable pedals. Lots of power. Five-year car seats fit in the back seat with room to spare. Back seat is extremely roomy, without sacrificing leg room in front row. A must for long road trips! Classy looking vehicle.

Weakness:

Mine seems prone to hydroplaning, but I think that is due to the tires more than anything. Handles washboard and rough country road conditions just fine. Gas mileage isn't great, but what do you expect from a 5.4L with 260 horse? Always has been the classic trade-off - horsepower or gas mileage. Cargo room is limited unless you take out the third row seat but it is amazing what you can fit back there.

I would recommend the Expedition to people who need to be able to move people in comfort (seats are a little firm but I like that myself and front buckets have adjustable lumbar support). My parents can get in and out of it without any trouble. I can get my son in and out of his car seat with minimum trouble. I had an Escort before and the majority of car seats just wouldn't fit in the back. The air bags, side intrusion beams and special bumpers make us feel safe in case of an accident. Although I haven't tried towing our travel trailer yet, I'm sure it won't have any trouble. Very classy looking vehicle. I paid $44,000 CAD, which seems like a lot but worked wonders for my peace of mind. I would recommend an Expedition for people who need to move people on a regular basis, want to know their kids are extremely safe, live in an area where the weather can be changeable and need to be prepared, who like a solid vehicle that can handle anything (within reason, of course), have an appreciation of a well designed interior and need to have a significant towing capacity. I have never had a better vehicle.

Owned Ford and Chev trucks mostly before. Chev heaters have never been able to touch the Ford. The Expedition has the advantages of a truck (clearance, stiffer suspension, towing capacity, larger motor) with a smoother ride and less utilitarian interior.

We have the Triton engine 5.4-liter (16" wheels} It runs great and looks good . Gets 13-14 mpg , city and 17+ highway at 70-75mph , with the Air Conditioning on . Very confortable with bucket seats and lumbar support. It has plenty of power.

Weakness:

The speed sensitive power steering , is dangerous on curvy mountain roads , with guard rails .The steering is over sensitive and makes you feel that you could easily lose control , and go over the edge . Bumps make it even worse . I have driven Chevrolet 3/4 ton Silverado Trucks, for 30 years and they track great (I still have one } Never have they scared me to drive . I bought the Expedition to please my wife . I think the steering was made to please women , but the steering is Dangerous . I am considering getting rid of it, and go back to a General Motors product .

The Expedition is a good vehicle over all . The steering is dangerous on windy roads and is not just a queston of getting used too . The Ford engineers need to correct this major problem . It is serious . We paid just under $30,000. for the vehicle and like it other wise . We have taken it to the Ford Dealer and they test drove it and said that the 1999 is even better than the 1997 or 1998 models in the steering department . I recommend the vehicle for flat freeway driving but not country or mountain roads .

Strength:

Quality Build, Size, Utility.Smooth as Butter drivetrain.

Weakness:

Seats, Driving position, twitcy handling.

The Expedition is a good vehicle that just needs a little more developement. First, the suspension is Too soft , giving no feedback through the steering. Going down the highway requires constant left, right
corrections. If you take your eyes off the road for a second you will wander into a ditch! I have heard the same from many other owners.
My 4wd Dodge Ram Quad cab drives like a Porsche in comparison.Driving an Expedition is SCARY!
Second, the seats are junk! Hard as a rock with no lateral support.
Most uncomfortable driving position I have ever driven. Pedals are way too close for a normal size man.(Im 5'10") 1999+ models have adjustable pedals to correct this.
Ford obviously made this vehicle with Women in mind. Way too soft and Mini van like handling. This was my second Ford and will be my last. Ford has never been a "drivers" car company. There designers put things like driver comfort, Handling, etc. second to utility, passenger comfort.
On a plus note, Quality build , great cargo capacity, good turning radius for big vehicle, means the next Expedition could have potential if these issues were addressed.
