Strength:

Give me a few days. Perhaps I'll think of one.

Weakness:

Terrible pick-up on the highway, rattles, you'll feel every bump. The engine is noisy, wind noise inside. Inside, the car is made of cheap plastic. Extremely weak steering, horrible brakes that you need to pound to stop the car. Of course, it is well known that the tires are a joke. This truck is a deathtrap.

A piece of garbage. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY A FORD. Problems from the start, but the worst was the engine failed at 37,000 miles, just two weeks before our 51-month lease was up. The cost to fix it is $5300. Ford won't replace the engine, even though there is a long history of the 4.0L SOHC engines failing. We poured thousands into the car, and now are stuck with another $5300 just to get rid of it! Ford's dealer and Customer "Service" have practically laughed at us as we have sought help. NEVER AGAIN YOU THIEVES!!

V8,AWD,302ci 215 hp, 3.73 gears, and enough power to tow any rice buner out of the mud, plenty of ac and a kick butt radio. enough said.

Weakness:

I guess the gas but I'm not driving a 1.9 liter TOY-ota.

I love my Explorer, I'm telling you I said i would never buy an explorer due to there V6 reputation, but when the sales men showed me that this one was a 5.0 V8 I knew it was for me. I know the V6's have had some problems. but the 302ci ford is a great motor I'v never have a problem, maybe its luck. My truck has a 6 disc cd changer rear air, all the options. the dealer even put 5 new good years on it, all new breaks and rotors, and gave the front end a tune up when i picked it up. I have to admitt the gas millege sucks, but I am used to it, you have to realize that it is TRUCK and not a car, all you preppy guys who buy them to putt around town and back and forth to work get over it and get it dirty. and next time buy the V8 you will love it.

4x4 works great, motor is great and the trannie shifts perfect after the crap ive put my old explorer through.i have automatic hubs but there still goin and strong.and the sharp turning radius is awesome!

Weakness:

power steering pump, front end alignments,i had to replace everything from the mastercylinder to the lines b/c the brakes kept messin up,ball joints went bad after i got it,and axle joints had to be replaced too.and mine vibrates really bad w/ new sidewinder all terrain tires on it at 70 mph.

well i love my explorer.it had plenty of power.never has broken down and i like it as much as our97madza b-4000 and our 98 ranger it has plenty of getty up and go!and id own another one but i want a 5 speed instead of an automatic!but id recommend a ford explorer to anyone i love mine and its the best truck ive ever had.if you want a truck w/ a smooth ride i would not recommend you buy a explorer b/c you know when you hit a bump in mine but if its the space and 4x4 then the explorer is what your lookin for .

Strength:

I usually get a nice rental car when it's in the shop.

Weakness:

1st engine replacement at 27000 miles
2nd engine replacement at 34000 miles

The absoulte worst vehicle I have ever owned. Have had engine problems from the beginning. 4.0L OHV owners beware! Ford has a problem with them but doesn't know what is the cause. The engine makes a diesel rattle at idle and rattles/pings excessively when accelerating at speeds above 60 mph. Should have it back this week with it's third engine. Ford refuses to buy it back and the new engine is only warranted until the expiration of the 3/36 warranty. I have always owned nothing other than Ford vehicles. Next week I will become TOYOTA'S newest customer. Buy a Highlander or 4 Runner.

Gas mileage 19MPG, 4x4, handleing, turning radius, roomy, quiet, powerful

Weakness:

breaks, factory stereo

Bought our Explorer 2 1/2 years ago, and other then replacing the factory stereo, and the breaks we have not had a problem with it whatso ever.
We love that fact that its ready for whatever the rough and tumble Great Northwest's back roads can throw at us(only got stuck once in over 15 inches of sticky mud!), but when wax'd it looks very sleek

Model Reviewed: /Explorer

Strength:

Very well engineered. Ergonomics are on target. Very comfortable. Great looks (initially hated the new look when it came out. Now I love it).Dial up 4x4 is great. Plenty of room. Great power (V-6). Good gas mileage. Air conditioner is great down here in the south (humid beyond the point of absurdity). Stereo is great and of excellent quality (I've heard notes and tones via this system I did not know were on the recording when played on my home system).

Weakness:

Don't know why - but when aligned and torsion arms adjusted the vehicle (most explorers) hangs left rear low. A very rare occurance of rough acceleration from a stop. The lumbar air valve/switch leaks cause the lumbar support to deflate. The Ford two-part black clearcoat paint (so far only on the hood) breaks down prematurely cause spider cracks throughout... need power outlet in rear sear and cargo areas.

Great vehicle. I definitely recommend the Ford explorer for safety (when operated with confidence) and value (lots of bang for the buck here). I drive approximately 120 miles per day through the city and along a major stretch of I-95. My Explorer has handled superb in these varying traffic environments regardless of weather. On long trips my two daughters love the roominess in the back (when they are not driving me crazy by constantly arguing and changing radio channels. I usually just lock the controls from the front - Thanks Ford). I'll definitely buy another. A very practical SUV, without the mammouth size. I traded in a Mercedes on it - best decision I ever made. Pulls my 17 foot, 2000lb boat without a problem.

Similar Products Used:

For price - best buy out there. Face it asian cars are good compared to US vehicle, but the prices are rediculous (maybe due to tariffs). Chevy/GMC good but not Ford quality. German vehicles - Mecedes had a good thing with the G series, now it is not quality your are paying for - just the name. BMW SUV - ha ha ha (They should have stuck to airplane engines). Jeep - bad kharma (too many chefs cooking the stew. I don't thing they know who built what in their vehicles.) Dodge Durango - retro concept over came funtionality (no room in rear seating area). rear seats compare slightly above a plywood chair for comfort. Interior is typical Dodge - boring.

Strength:

Room, Leg space.

Weakness:

Stereo Broken when purchased and of course salesman did not advise me and would not replace without sending whole system to maker. From springs ruff and noisy. Gas pedal bracket fell off while driving and is not covered under the extended warrenty. Isen't this a safety hazard? Anyone else have a problem with the gas pedal bracket. Bill Pierre Ford just wants to sell and make money. Took numerous phone calls to dealer and 2 trips just to get the manual. No interest in customer satisfaction.

I like the truck. Lots of room and easy to drive.
