I love this car. Looks great and is very confortable but enough with the problems!!!!

Weakness:

Problems, problems, problems!!!

I purchased my uncles 1998 Envoy. This car he got in 1999 from the dealership brand new because it was left over. Never caused him a problem. I bought it from him last August and it is sucking all of my money out of me. I had to have my front headlight replaced for $900. Then my oil was leaking-another $500. Now I just brought it into the shop because it is making this loud noise that sounds like a motorcycle is coming down the road. It stops when I break but the noise is so terrible. Turns out my 4 wheel drive in the front isn't working. That will cost me $130. Then they have to replace my idle arm and my bolts and barrings because they are bad. That's another $500. My doors and my radio are making squeky noises now too. What else could go wrong at this point?

Looks good, rides good

Weakness:

I'm afraid to find out plus gas seems to drain out before your very eyes. Especially for a 6 cylinder. It is worse than the Sierra we had by far.

I haven't seen any reviews for the 04 Envoy. After 200, yes, 200 miles. We only had the vehicle one week. Something went wrong in the tailgate area and can't open back door or use back window. A sensor module or something I was told. 5 days to get the part here. Dealer asst. service mgr. very rude and didn't consider this plus cruise going off on the highway for no reason and service 4 wheel drive light coming on a big problem. He said it was all related to the tailgate problem and everything needed to be reset. I have seen the word "reset" on here many times. From what I read on here I can see why the service guy told me to go ahead and call GM because it doesn't seem like they are going to care at all. After reading all of this I am more worried than ever about this vehicle. We have always driven GM vehicles and never had a problem so soon. The dealership did give us a vehicle to drive after a lot of ranting and raving. To me a new vehicle isn't supposed to breakdown and I realize there are lemons out there but I fear there is more to come. They said it is electrical and anything could happen but they didn't consider it a safety problem. GM only pays for a loaner vehicle if it is safety related. I can only pray this is not the start of a long line of problems.

Strength:

Great looks. Lots of power, more power than comparable V8 models of Toyota and Nissan. Smooth, quiet ride, like gliding on water. Fabulous stereo.

Weakness:

I have experienced no weaknesses yet.

The best purchase I have ever made. No complaints yet, and I have over 16,000 miles on the vehicle. Best ride I have ever experienced in any SUV. I drove pretty much every SUV out there, and finally ended up with the Envoy after nearly a year of searching. I have had none of the problems listed on this site. Drives smooth and wonderful, lots of power, sometimes too much for me. I tend to have a lead foot. Lots of bells and whistle and all of them work. No problems yet.

Strength:

Nice, but somewhat soft ride. Leather lumbar supported seats.

Weakness:

Better a/c, and a more firmer ride. Feels like I am wanting to tumble left to right when making turns.

I love my Envoy! Had it to dealer one time because a/c seems to blow to soft on one side, compared to other. Explained that the memory mirrors will 'lose' their memory if bumped (say getting in/out of vehicle) Tried to pay attention to that and that MAY be the reason. A friend has one and has had a problem with what seems like the transmission wanting to 'surge' when in drive while sitting still; but I don't have this problem. I tow a 5,000 trailer w/car on it, in Florida, with NO problems. My mileage is 14-15 in town & about 20-22 on the highway. So far, so good. I have owned is 1/ 1/2 yrs and have 26,000 miles on it!

Unreliable, no confidence in vehicle performance.

The Envoy has been the most dissappointing vehicle I have ever owned. It has been in the shop more than my used cars with over 150,000 miles on them. Problems include A/C, transmission at under7,000 miles, fuel overflows, seatbelt and more....!

Turing radius, passing excelleration, body style

Weakness:

Interior design is cramped, especially front console. Interior trim package wears out fast. Stuff really starts to happen at end of warranty period.

This vehicle started as a gem...great excelleration, turning radius, ride. Within 3 years and 41000 miles it is starting to fall apart. Interior trim package is coming undone, leather has been replaced, windows grind going up and the gas mileage is getting worse. There is a hesitation in the transmission and numerous trips to the dealer for other mostly irritating things like door buzzers sticking on, digital temp went out, transmission problems at 35000, never have I had the tires rotated without losing a wheel cap...! Besides that the value as in most GM autos has plunged with most of us upside down on value. I have had many GM vehicles and this one looks to be the biggest flop. Just bought a used Honda for $6000. Sorry GM!

Love the look of my silver Envoy- great for living on an unpaved road. The sound system is excellent except for problem with CD player. The interior has been very enjoyable with heated seats and other luxuries. OnStar came to my aid when I had a flat tire even though my one year had expired. I appreciated that so much.

Weakness:

Transmission troubles that seem to be common in all GM vehicles after warranty is out.

We purchased this 1999 vehicle w/10 thousand miles on it from a dealer who said it was driven by a GMC executive. I have loved it and enjoy driving it although we have had some problems. The first problem was immediately after getting the Envoy. The driver's door was sticking and "hanging" too low. It was adjusted at a bodyshop that the dealer referred us too. The plastic trim across the back hatch was loose, rattled and had to be tightened. I love the Bose stereo and the 6 CD changer however after owning for a year and a half the CD changer got stuck. We had to pay over $600 to have it repaired. We were told that the problem was common for this type of Bose CD player. Because we have a commute roundtrip of 70 miles per day, our miles have added up. The majority of the 79,000 miles we have accumulated are highway miles. At less than 70,000 miles our transmission went out. After paying almost $1300.00 for repair we were told that alot of GMC vehicles have this problem. The dealer said he put a repair kit into the transmission that should solve that problem. Two months later we are again having problems. Now we are told that it is a transfer case control module or powertrain control module wiring sensors. This started when we had to use the 4wheel drive in the snow a couple of weeks ago. (We have only used the 4 wheel drive 4 or 5 times in the 3+ years we have owned it.) Since that use the Envoy thinks it is in 4 wheel low for the first few miles then it goes into normal 2 wheel high. I noticed the tachometer was doing some surging and the power seemed to come and go. Fortunately we discovered the problem before leaving on our holiday trip. It has to be repaired before driving any long distances. What a let down. I really feel that if GMC was aware of the transmission problems they should have made a recall. I was fortunate that I was in a parking lot when our Envoy's transmission refused to go into reverse. We will be looking for another vehicle immeditately but doubt that another GMC is in our future. A car should last through getting paid for at the very least. We have driven vehicles without being worried about high miles in the past. We are commuting more and we need confidence in reliability and safety of the vehicles we purchase.
