Strength:

excellent paint durability and overall goodlooks. Nice dashboard layout and great sound system.

Weakness:

Service engine soon light constantly on with problems to the EGR and 02 sensors. Too much interior noise.

Loved the appearance of the Jimmy and really liked the layout of the interior. The leather seats and C.D. sound system were a big bonus. Service engine soon light has been on most of the time I''ve owned the truck. EGR problems and O2 sensors have been constant. The interior is noisy on bumpy roads from all the plastic rubbing together also clunking from underneath vehicle from what I''ve been told is the leaf springs chattering together. Had alignment checked twice since I have owned it and it still feels like it sways quite a bit even with four brand new tires. The paint has held up nicely with no rust at all. Engine has 157,000kms and it is a little noisy with a constant ticking.

Strength:

- always has gone well in the snow so I should be happy right?..wrong!!!

Weakness:

After reading the problems here I finally realized I was not the only one with what I thought was a lemon!...Our 1st problem was the odometer, I would put the breaks on and be stopping but the odometer still would read 55 miles and hour and i was almost stopped...that finally got fixed after 5 times to the dealer...then the rear defrost went...and to top it off the engine blew at 78k and I live in Maine and we were camping in Vermont, oh that was pleasant! No warranty at 78k that ran out at 72K of course and GM wanted nothing to do with it. All they could write back and tell me was that they do their best to make a good engine HA HA!!! We have replaced the fuelump 4 times which now has made alot of carbon build up and the ERG valve is acting up because of it...I just apid my mechanic $185 on tuesday and it is friday and my lovely jimmy is spuddering again..due to the ERG valve again i''m sure. This truck has been a nightmare and I will never as long as I live buy another GM product!!!

What I would give now to have had the internet at the time of purchasing this vehicle..especially to come to this site and see the reviews on these GMC Jimmy''s. God knows I would have not bought this vehicle We bought our Jimmy used with 6,000 miles on it. We loved the fact that it was a 4x4 because at the time I was taking my 2 kids to daycare and wanted a 4x4 for the snow and saftey. Little did I know it would be the nightmare of hell vehicle!!

Strength:

Good looks, body and paint have lasted quite well.

Weakness:

Poorly designed EGR system constantly fails. Dealership and GM Canada seem unable to find the problem.

This vehicle has been a nightmare! The vehicle has failed constantly, usually due to EGR carbon problems... 11 times in last year. I''ve had it fail on the same day it was returned for service three times in two months). The fuel pump has also failed several times in the last six months, requiring replacement of the fuel pump or sender unit. The vehicle is an SUV but is really a glorified station wagon. I honestly can''t keep in on the road and am wondering when the local dealership is going to offer me "frequent flyer" service. Don''t buy a Jimmy with a Vortec engine.

Strength:

Comfortable ride, low air and road noise, driver friendly as far as ergonomics.

Weakness:

Fuel efficiency, feels unstable in moderate to high winds and handling is iffy.

My wife and I decided to buy a SUV and went to our trusty, local dealership. We decided, after pain staking dealing, to purchase a 99 Jimmy SLT , loaded. Excited to enjoy the new vehicle we hopped in and started it up. Before leaving the lot the "service engine soon" light lit and has been on since. Problems I noticed while the light is on includes sluggishness, RPM''s climbing but the car does not seem to respond. All indicator lamps intermittently light, all gauges drop to zero momentarily. Attempted to have it fixed once and they stated that they found a code and cleared it. Took it back and they replaced the ignition switch assembly/wiring harness. Two days later the "Sercice engine soon" light came back on. Costs of repair can be high especially when labor costs are the majority of the total bill and they continually work on it without locating the source of the problem.

Strength:

Very quick, and powerfull

Weakness:

none that i''ve encounterd

I have a 95 Jimmy with a V6 4.3L, automatic transmission. I''ve put a K&N air filter, Bosch platnum 4+ spark plugs, Bosch Distributer, and dropped 3/5. I have not had a problem with it untill resently, I just replace my trans after 200,000 miles. But I have worked it hard, I once pulled two colverts over 500 miles. After putting in that remanufactured trans, It runs like new again.

Strength:

Comfortable seats, excellent climate control, good power, good ride

Weakness:

Fuel Economy, Handling

Truck has 34000miles. Problems so far include rear washer stopped working - fixed under warranty, rattle from engine around 2000RPM at light load - diagnosed as noise created by gear driven balance shaft. Noise is considered "normal" Refer to GM TSB #00-06-01-023, and intermittent loud {louder than normal} exhaust noise traced to a defective weld in the "Y-Pipe" - will be covered by warranty when the part arrives. Other than that no problems. Truck is very comfortable, good ride for a truck, engine is noisy but powerful, acceptable mileage {15-17 around town}, very good paint & exterior trim quality, interior materials & controls OK {Ford is better here}. Handling OK, but don''t push it too hard. I had coolant replaced at 33000 miles after hearing about problems with cooling system if you adhere to GM 100,000mi. + coolant life claim. Since I plan to keep this truck for a long time I purchased the extended warranty.

Strength:

It''s a truck, but drives/parks like a car.

Weakness:

REPAIRS!!!!! Doesn''t tow a boat too well either.

If you enjoy paying repair bills, please buy this truck. If not, stay far away!!!! Service engine soon light came on 3 days after we bought it, should have returned it then. We have replaced EGR valve twice, oxygen sensors three times, had many "seals" replaced, new serpatine belt, new starter, had frost plugs replaced, new ball joints, and the list goes on and on. Each time I take it in for one repair, they give me a list of several more things that need to be replaced. On that list now are the water pump, idler arms, brake pads, tranny flush. I think I am going to trade it in before paying for any more repairs. I have it in for repair almost every 3 months. You know it''s bad when you call the service department and they know you personally!

Strength:

None.........maybe one thing, GM set too high a residual at the end. this made my lease payments lower. The residual was $23,000 but the can''t get $18,000 for it on lot or at an auction.

Weakness:

Poor handling, workmenship, quality, fuel consumption, paint, and long list of repairs. The vechile is not three years old yet and I''m fed up with going back to the dealer for repairs. Now that the warranty is over more problems with rear diff. bearings and seals, door and hood hinges, and my third set of breaks. My lease is up in 5 months.........PLEASE hold together so I can throw the keys back at GM, have a party, and go get a new automobile designed in Japan. Just like 75% of my redneck friends. I cannot find any GM dealer who will take it from me at minimal cost so I can lease something else. They want 3 to 4 grand then they will talk

My last Notrh American designed automobile. Please do yourself a huge favor and buy something designed in japan.

Strength:

It drives great, excelent in snow, very comfortable, looks good, very quiet.

Weakness:

ABS brakes can kill you, They don''t stop the car in an emergency, AC went out @ 50000 ml. 1200 dollars Rear engine seal replaced @ 45000 1300 dollars. Antifreeze turned to an oily like substance, the whole system needed flushing and new thermostat and water pump @ 40000 950 dollars. I will never buy a U.S.A. built car again.

Like most of you I have had too many problems, and over 3500 dollars in 2 years of ownership. I have 77000 mi. on it now and have been told the transmission is due to go out. I found a website for recalls. http://www.csaa.com/buyacar/research/ just type in the car & year it will bring up recalls for your vehicle.
