Styling is decent. A/C is good
Weakness:
- very unreliable - in the shop at least 1 a month I bought the truck with 41,000 miles on it and it nows has 77,000 miles. The repair file on it is about 2 inches thick and getting bigger. I'm sorry, but for a truck with only 77,000 miles on it I shouldn't have had all these problems. I put $500 in it 2 weeks ago and they want another $600 this week. Thanks GMC, I've now convinced my die hard GM wife to move on!!! Similar Products Used: 1991 Blazer - same piece of junk in a different wrapper |

Strength:
Looks - Smooth ride - interior design -handling in snow and rain - push button 4WD - power - space - comfort.
Weakness:
Very wide turning radius - cassette player not available I am very happy with my Jimmy to this point. It feels much more stable in the snow and rain compared to the Jeep. I have had no repairs after 18 months of driving it. I have heard horror stories about these trucks but mine has been great. My wife is thinking of trading her Jeep in for a Jimmy. Soft ride,I orderd this truck with premium suspension.
Weakness:
Bad brakes, uncomftrable seating, no storage This 97 Jimmy is always breaking down. I paid $27,000 cash for this lemon. Bad breaks, drivers seat ripping, new cat. conveter, new front rotors at 25,000 miles, new oxygen sensors, new fan clutch, new fuel pump ($400),I fix one thing and soon after I have to fix something else. Good thing my brother is a mechanic. From all the reviews I read on this truck I think we could have a class-action lawsuit. Any good lawyers out ther? GMC doesn't want to help at all, they just listen on the phone and do nothing for their cutomers. THIS TRUCK SUCKS!!! Strength:
Classic styling, off-road capabilities.
Weakness:
Terribly underpowered, poor quality control. Unsatisfactory running gear. Owned a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder and at the time a 2.8 was the only other option and it's numbers were not much more impressive. I vowed never to own another blazer/jimmy after my terrible experience in the 80's with this rig and I see very little has changed as far as quality issues are concerned. I can't believe that GM still has all the same problems 15 years later. The GM always seems to be a follower when it comes to designs and quality. No wonder they continue to loose marketshare to everyone. This vehicle literally fell apart after the warranty period expired. A piston crumbled at about 40k, Had the onboard computer unit replaced at 50k and that was after replacing every sensor on the rig. Gremlins obviously got ahold of this piece of junk. Traded it on a Mazda 4x4 P/U in 1990. What a relief to be rid of it. Similar Products Used: 1993 jeep cherokee. Light years ahead of GM as far as quality and Chrysler products leave somethings to be desired. |

Strength:
i like the way the interior is layed out in comparison to explorers, 4runners etc... 4.3 has plenty of power for an suv, great towing capability, great off road performance, quiet and comfortable, good for long trips, great gas mileage in comparison to my 96 ford ranger with the wimpy 4.0 @ 160 hp, i get about 19 mpg in my jimmy with the vortec @ 190 hp
Weakness:
the braking is a little hard to get used to, sometimes you have to really put some leg into it...............um thats all so far , 37k and no problems what so ever for all the options my sls has and i paid 25-26k i would have had to fork out 4k more to get the explorer with same options, and ford needs to seriously do something about that interior they haven't changed it for the past 5 years blaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!! Strength:
Comfy interior, lots of space, four wheel drive.
Weakness:
Car could not stop breaking down. I woulf repair a part, then three months later something else would fall off. After I invested A LOT of money into the lemon, I decided to trade it in for another car that was more fuel efficient and did not break down so often. Car rattled when I drove over 60/MPH. The brakes were horrible. I had to keep it in 4X4 all the time. It ate too much gas, fill it up and by midweek I'd have to fill it up again. A VERY stupid car, very few options. Too embarassed to tell how much I paid. I bought it used and I paid ALOT for it. I also invested over $4,000 in repairs in two years. When I traded it in, dealership offered VERY little. I was VERY mad. Similar Products Used: Nissan Pathfinder. Pathfinder wins any day. |

SLS
Strength:
Powerful 4.3 V-6 and smooth transmission. Comfortable seats. Good cargo capacity. Good instrumentation. Fair mileage for an SUV with this size engine.
Weakness:
Very dangerous braking system. Very poor fit and finish. Unstable handling. The annual safety recalls. I purchased this vehicle new in 1996, trading it in on a Pathfinder in 2000. At its price point, it represented an average value. While I am extremely comprehensive about maintenance, the GMC was a very difficult vehicle to own and drive. Other than a fairly strong powertrain, there is little to recommend about this truck. Handling is vague, and the overassisted PS gives no road feel. Assembly quality was horrid, and the vehicle developed incurable squeaks and rattles within weeks. Tearing down interior panels to correct this revealed assembly tolerances and methods of late 1970's production - very disappointing. Interior panels and components pop loose repeatedly. The driver's door weatherstripping wore out prematurely. The driver's door window slipped out of alignment, tearing the weatherseal. Fortunately, parts are cheap. An O2 sensor failed the first week we owned it. The frame was waxed, and it slid off a safety jack once, nearly killing me. After 8,000 miles the OEM Michelins lost all wet weather grip, giving the ABS a daily workout. The AT dipstick eventually rusted into its tube (even though I check it monthly). The front brake pads failed at 19,000. Occasionally the interior lights came on for no reason (there's a short somewhere). Amazingly, I had no problems with the electronic 4WD, although the vehicle handles poorly in snow and fishtailed off the road once. I'd been driving for over twenty years (including some very powerful V-8 models), and never had an accident before owning this vehicle. The combination of vague handling and dangerous braking involved me in an accident every year I owned it. The ABS system has a potentially lethal defect, and caused an accident when it completely disengaged the brakes one wet morning, uncontrollably sliding me over 300 feet at 25 mph into the backend of another vehicle. I later learned that this condition is ABS computer related and was the subject of a later recall. The CD player failed, although I used it lightly. One speaker failed. The tailgate/window assembly rattled. The rear tire carrier rusted after two years (It was garage kept). An instrument panel illumination light failed, requiring complete teardown of the lower dash and lowering the steering column to replace it. Every year we had it it was subject to a safety recall. At 52,000, the engine's rear main seal failed. That was enough. Traded it in on a relatively underpowered Pathfinder and haven't had a problem (or accident) since.
