exterior paint job (only thing I haven't had a problem with and the cargo space in the back.
Weakness:
BRAKES - I replace the brakes every 10-12K miles. Thank god I bought an extended warranty. The tranny, A/C, front 2 tires, alternator, battery (twice) have been replaced. The cassette player has broken down several times although its hardly used. The sound system is crappy. There's a hole in the front seat cloth cover even though i have seat covers on. And the cup holders suck. GM could be sued by me for hot drinks falling over and spilling out onto my leg. Storage space is horrible as far as little holders that are common in other vehicles. And what exactly is supposed to fit in those little upper containers on the ceiling of the car? I read through the reviews here. And I thought I had bought a lemon - I guess all Jimmys are lemons. Being my first SUV I believed the dealer service advisor who continually tells me the problems are due to the car being an SUV. And BTW I don't want to cut down GM completely. For me its strictly limited to this Jimmy piece fo crap. Not recommend it. I can't wait to pay it off -= just a few more months -= yayyyyyy. And then I get to take a 75 percent depreciation price cut going by Kelly Blue Book - whoopeee. Similar Products Used: GMC/Chevy/Ford full size trucks. |

Strength:
The power sunroof has an automatic switch on it and is very large. The euro suspension is the way to go. It has minimal body roll, steering is tighter which acutally makes it fun to drive. GMC used excellant leather in the Jimmy. We also equiped ours with the on road/off road tires. Very nice in the winter and are just fine on dry pavement and traveling. The make the truck look cooler because of their size. Seats are very supportive and very nice on long trips.
Weakness:
We have owned this vehicle for 10 months now and are in a three year lease. In ten months it has gone in for three suspension adjustments and four wheel alignments and the steering wheel is still not straight. And it is about to go in again. The drivers door is kind of crickety. There is only one engine available. This thing needs a V8. Should have gotten the Bose system. It is also kind of small. It just doesn't seem well put together. If I was in the market for a 2000/2001 SUV, I would not buy another Jimmy, Blazer, or Bravada. If you get the GM discount as I do, you can lease one of these very cheap as I do. I do like the truck but I feel as though for a $32,000 vehicle, there should be more quality and refinement. I don't belive I would consider another one, but an all-new model is just around the corner, and if it is anything like the new Yukons and Tahoes, as far as quality goes, I will buy another one. The Jimmy name will be dropped and they will all become Envoy's. I have seen pictures and they look awesome. They are as big as the current Explorers which is good. The New Bravada's look much more conservitive. The new in-line six is supposed to be a V8 beater! We'll see. The new SUV is supposed to be worlds better than the current one. If I were you, I would wait for the new model, or if you have the cash, buy a Yukon or Tahoe. Cars are cars and there are always going to be problems with them. Don't let mine discourage what vehicle you want. Out of the 3, I would buy the Jimmy because I think it looks the best and has the best seats. But that is just me. If it were me though, I would also wait for the new generation GM SUV's. And remember, GM, Ford, And Dodge, build the best trucks and SUV's. Hands down!! Similar Products Used: Bravada, Seats are absolutely TERRIBLE. Suspension is a joke! The all-wheel drive system just doesn't compete with the Auto-Trac systems in the Jimmy and Blazer. Radio controls seem nicer though. |

Weakness:
leather seats cracked, electrical problems, numerous ABS recalls, 4WD system, ergonomics - cd player, pedals something new breaks on the car every other week. my passenger side door lock doesn't work (you have to lock/unlock it like a manual door lock) and since it is electronic it is a $250+ job that i don't think is worth it (my dealer asked for $70 just to open up the panel for an estimate)... rear wiper gets stuck in the middle of the stroke, but not worth fixing either because it is pretty much useless when it is working... aluminum trim falls off the doors....the pedals feel very soft and are in an odd position...when in "drive" the stalk shift blocks the opening to the cd player. Weakness:
My major gripe is the "groans" the vehicle emits as it accelerates and I paid 10,000 for a Jimmy SLT with 33,000 miles on the clock. I knew the guy who sold it so I know it was well looked after. I wouldn't have purchased the vehicle if it were not so well priced. But at $10,000, I couldn't refuse. My wife loves the Jimmy and I would think very highly Similar Products Used: It reminds me of the 1995 Explorer I used to drive though the Jimmy has more power. I prefer the Jimmy overall. |

Everything else. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM GMC, ESPECIALLY A JIMMY. This has to one of the worst vehicles ever made. The dashboard of my Jimmy has been lit up like a pinball machine on TILT for most of the time I have had it. Either the service engine soon or ABS light is on at all times. The brakes have been worked on 8 times since I have had the vehicle. I am about to get my third ABS module. When the ABS has worked it is triggered by the slightest little bump and activates at random times. There have been many oxygen sensor changes. When I bought it the leather on the drivers seat was replaced because it was cracked already. I can't see any thing at night because the headlights are so dim. In the 2 years I have had the truck it has lost at least $8000 in value not to mention the work I would need to do to be able to sell it. I was trying to choose between a Jimmy and a Toyota 4-Runner when I purchased the Jimmy. I thought the Jimmy would be a nice change of pace. I have never wished so hard that I was wrong. The Jimmy has definitely been a change of pace. Instead of getting to drive a Toyota; I get to call the GMC dealer and wonder when, if ever, I will be getting my vehicle back. I have written to the zone manager for my dealership and I am still very unhappy. Soon I will be selling the Jimmy and felling guilty during every minute of the transaction. I will be buying the Lexus IS300 (Toyota) because I would rather be driving my vehicle. Similar Products Used: 85' and 92' Toyota pickups |

Strength:
Powerful engine. Like any SUV, big.
Weakness:
My Jimmy was in the shop almost all the time. It alwasy broke down. It ate a lot of gas, went through brakes yearly, and according to all major tests (e.g. Comsumer Reports), it is one of the most unsafe. In less than five years, I replaced the transmission, alternator (twice), battery, breakes (four times -- about once a year), tires, etc. About the only thing that was origional on the vehicle was the windshield wiper. This iscosting me a fortune and I can't get rid of it (the Service Engine Soon light on the dash will not go off and four GMC dealers can't fix it. They cannot diagnose what is causing the light and can't cut the darn wire). Buying the Jimmy was the biggest financial mistake I ever made -- it was a money pit and a horrible investment. Apparently there is only a 500,000,000 character limitation in this field...not enough to describe these pieces of junk! It's really sad that GM allows a loyal "Buy North American" patron like myself to have a reason to look elsewhere but I had no choice. Strength:
Nice looking, strong suspension, not too bad on gas (about 17mpg), good amount of space
Weakness:
I get that weird "clunk" somewhere in the drivetrain sometimes - don't know what that is. I had the U-joints replaced. The rear window washer hose broke and was leaking, so I don't use that anymore. Replaced the brakes once - not bad. Rattley when going over bumps. I bought the Jimmy SLS in January of 2000 when it had 45k miles on it. Luckily I bought an extended warranty with it. It has been a pretty good truck so far, nothing major (knock knock). It was really good in snow and when it has to pull itself out of a jam. Couple little things went, but if you catch it early, its usually not too bad. Overall, it has been a pretty good running truck, but I am quite concerned about the rest of the reviews I have read about it. Similar Products Used: 1994 S10 P/U 4.3L |
