Strength:

exterior paint job (only thing I haven't had a problem with and the cargo space in the back.

Weakness:

BRAKES - I replace the brakes every 10-12K miles. Thank god I bought an extended warranty. The tranny, A/C, front 2 tires, alternator, battery (twice) have been replaced. The cassette player has broken down several times although its hardly used. The sound system is crappy. There's a hole in the front seat cloth cover even though i have seat covers on. And the cup holders suck. GM could be sued by me for hot drinks falling over and spilling out onto my leg. Storage space is horrible as far as little holders that are common in other vehicles. And what exactly is supposed to fit in those little upper containers on the ceiling of the car? I read through the reviews here. And I thought I had bought a lemon - I guess all Jimmys are lemons. Being my first SUV I believed the dealer service advisor who continually tells me the problems are due to the car being an SUV. And BTW I don't want to cut down GM completely. For me its strictly limited to this Jimmy piece fo crap.

Not recommend it. I can't wait to pay it off -= just a few more months -= yayyyyyy. And then I get to take a 75 percent depreciation price cut going by Kelly Blue Book - whoopeee.

Strength:

Looks, very comfortable seating, handles the roads pretty good, great in the
snow, good sounding stereo, love the sunroof!

Weakness:

The color(emerald green)Its sure pretty when its clean and waxed, but "what
a chore to keep it that way!!" The brakes are definitely something this
company needs to take a look at. I have 2 tires that I can't keep proper
amount of air in, and they've both been changed twice. The compartment in the door panel tends to crack very easily. My drivers side seat has been
changed twice, because of a metal object that tears a hole in it.
My heater core has gone out twice in two months.(faulty core) There is no
room in the back seat, difinitely a two seater. I get one loud knock from
the engine once in awhile, and no one seems to know what it is, but it
hasn't seemed to do any damage. My transmission dipstick was totally rusted
out. The moulding around my sunroof comes off alot. (no leaks though) My
back windshield wiper fluid doesn't work. But I think one of the things
that irritates me the most, is the back seat lighting! "THERE IS NONE"
You have a light in the front, and in the very back, but nothing in the
middle, and this is very inconvenient with 2 kids!!! The wheels on this
vehicle are a pain to keep clean, especially with all the brake dust that
covers them constantly, and that's not because of my driving, it's that
wonderful brake system they have on the Jimmy.

My vehicle has been very reliable, and has made ALOT of trips for me and
my family. I have put alot of milage on it, in 2 1/2 years. It's just been
recently that the big problems have started. I'm at about 50 something
thousand miles right now, with alot more payments to go, and I thought that
it would be a car I would have around for awhile, but not if things keep
going like they are. "I can't afford to put every extra penny I have into
fixing my car," the payments are hard enough!! Thank goodness we have a
great dealership that I can go to, to have it fixed. They get me in and
out in 2 days at the most!! So far its been pretty reasonably priced, be-cause alot of it has been GMC's responsibility because of factory defects.
But those are getting very tiring, and I'm not sure if its worth it anymore. The Jimmy seems like a good family vehicle, it's safe on the road,
and hopefully the company will fix these problems that we all seem to have
in common, and hopefully before we're all totally broke!! Today I would
have to say I recommend the Jimmy, Tomorrow, I have to take my car in to replace that second heater core, so after I see whats going on, "who knows?"

Strength:

The power sunroof has an automatic switch on it and is very large. The euro suspension is the way to go. It has minimal body roll, steering is tighter which acutally makes it fun to drive. GMC used excellant leather in the Jimmy. We also equiped ours with the on road/off road tires. Very nice in the winter and are just fine on dry pavement and traveling. The make the truck look cooler because of their size. Seats are very supportive and very nice on long trips.

Weakness:

We have owned this vehicle for 10 months now and are in a three year lease. In ten months it has gone in for three suspension adjustments and four wheel alignments and the steering wheel is still not straight. And it is about to go in again. The drivers door is kind of crickety. There is only one engine available. This thing needs a V8. Should have gotten the Bose system. It is also kind of small. It just doesn't seem well put together. If I was in the market for a 2000/2001 SUV, I would not buy another Jimmy, Blazer, or Bravada.

If you get the GM discount as I do, you can lease one of these very cheap as I do. I do like the truck but I feel as though for a $32,000 vehicle, there should be more quality and refinement. I don't belive I would consider another one, but an all-new model is just around the corner, and if it is anything like the new Yukons and Tahoes, as far as quality goes, I will buy another one. The Jimmy name will be dropped and they will all become Envoy's. I have seen pictures and they look awesome. They are as big as the current Explorers which is good. The New Bravada's look much more conservitive. The new in-line six is supposed to be a V8 beater! We'll see. The new SUV is supposed to be worlds better than the current one. If I were you, I would wait for the new model, or if you have the cash, buy a Yukon or Tahoe. Cars are cars and there are always going to be problems with them. Don't let mine discourage what vehicle you want. Out of the 3, I would buy the Jimmy because I think it looks the best and has the best seats. But that is just me. If it were me though, I would also wait for the new generation GM SUV's. And remember, GM, Ford, And Dodge, build the best trucks and SUV's. Hands down!!

Bravada, Seats are absolutely TERRIBLE. Suspension is a joke! The all-wheel drive system just doesn't compete with the Auto-Trac systems in the Jimmy and Blazer. Radio controls seem nicer though.
Blazer, very identical to the Jimmy. I thought the Jimmy had a nicer exterior look than the Blazer. Although the TrailBlazer looked really cool but I couldn't justify the extra money for it.
Envoy, Don't waste your money! Buy a Jimmy or Blazer

Weakness:

leather seats cracked, electrical problems, numerous ABS recalls, 4WD system, ergonomics - cd player, pedals

something new breaks on the car every other week. my passenger side door lock doesn't work (you have to lock/unlock it like a manual door lock) and since it is electronic it is a $250+ job that i don't think is worth it (my dealer asked for $70 just to open up the panel for an estimate)... rear wiper gets stuck in the middle of the stroke, but not worth fixing either because it is pretty much useless when it is working... aluminum trim falls off the doors....the pedals feel very soft and are in an odd position...when in "drive" the stalk shift blocks the opening to the cd player.

Strength:

The vehicle is good looking, has beautful paint and I really like the
leather seats. They fit me well. The Jimmy is very smooth at cruising speeds and offers good feel through the steering wheel. The transmission
works well (it had been replaced) and the cargo capacity is excellent.

Weakness:

My major gripe is the "groans" the vehicle emits as it accelerates and
decelerates. The noises are not associated with bumps just motion. I
hate them. The engine could use a little refinement.

I paid 10,000 for a Jimmy SLT with 33,000 miles on the clock. I knew the guy who sold it so I know it was well looked after. I wouldn't have purchased the vehicle if it were not so well priced. But at $10,000, I couldn't refuse. My wife loves the Jimmy and I would think very highly
of it if it didn't graon so much (they are quiet graons but they bother
me). I will try to get them fixed. Overall the vehicle performs well
and is a great used car value.

Strength:

Lots of low end power (4.3L), High ride, 4X4 on the fly, has been reliable, 190000+ Kms, lots of room

Weakness:

NOT COMFORTABLE, Hard to pass at highway speed, Very Thirsty 12-14Mpg, Don't like automatic when it comes to hard accell.

$9000 CDN, I would not recommend it to someone who enjoys long trips.

Because of the transmition and transfercase position the floor in the front only offers poor foot room, driver is FORCED to put foot at a 30 degree out-turn to press the gas pedal. This is very uncomfortable. Secondly seats lack any lateral support, I almost fall out of my seat when I turn. Thirdly center console arm rest is about 3" too low, coming from a 5-speed, this is where I like to drive with my left hand. And finally rear bench is too short, with three passengers the two window seated people are falling off the end of the seat.

Also the front doors need speakers. No selection for fresh air or re-circulation of air. It is very noisey, after putting in stereo equipment you see that the vehicle lacks sound deadening material that an Import would have.

This truely a truck made to look like an SUV.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM GMC, ESPECIALLY A JIMMY. This has to one of the worst vehicles ever made. The dashboard of my Jimmy has been lit up like a pinball machine on TILT for most of the time I have had it. Either the service engine soon or ABS light is on at all times. The brakes have been worked on 8 times since I have had the vehicle. I am about to get my third ABS module. When the ABS has worked it is triggered by the slightest little bump and activates at random times. There have been many oxygen sensor changes. When I bought it the leather on the drivers seat was replaced because it was cracked already. I can't see any thing at night because the headlights are so dim. In the 2 years I have had the truck it has lost at least $8000 in value not to mention the work I would need to do to be able to sell it. I was trying to choose between a Jimmy and a Toyota 4-Runner when I purchased the Jimmy. I thought the Jimmy would be a nice change of pace. I have never wished so hard that I was wrong. The Jimmy has definitely been a change of pace. Instead of getting to drive a Toyota; I get to call the GMC dealer and wonder when, if ever, I will be getting my vehicle back. I have written to the zone manager for my dealership and I am still very unhappy. Soon I will be selling the Jimmy and felling guilty during every minute of the transaction. I will be buying the Lexus IS300 (Toyota) because I would rather be driving my vehicle.

Powerful engine. Like any SUV, big.

Weakness:

My Jimmy was in the shop almost all the time. It alwasy broke down. It ate a lot of gas, went through brakes yearly, and according to all major tests (e.g. Comsumer Reports), it is one of the most unsafe.

In less than five years, I replaced the transmission, alternator (twice), battery, breakes (four times -- about once a year), tires, etc. About the only thing that was origional on the vehicle was the windshield wiper. This iscosting me a fortune and I can't get rid of it (the Service Engine Soon light on the dash will not go off and four GMC dealers can't fix it. They cannot diagnose what is causing the light and can't cut the darn wire). Buying the Jimmy was the biggest financial mistake I ever made -- it was a money pit and a horrible investment.

I now drive an Audi (went to the other extreme of reliabiity) and rent a truck or minivan if I need to haul something.

Model Reviewed: and SLT's

Strength:

Best thing I like about them is that they're both gone.

Weakness:

Apparently there is only a 500,000,000 character limitation in this field...not enough to describe these pieces of junk!

It's really sad that GM allows a loyal "Buy North American" patron like myself to have a reason to look elsewhere but I had no choice.

After years of vehemently staying GM for as long as my conscious mind can remember (which would be about 34 years) and owning numerous different models plus my two most recent Jimmy SLT's (which was two Jimmy's too much), their continual mechanical problems along with GM's "we know far better than you Mr. Customer despite your 15 years of hands on automotive experience attitude" really disturbed me.

No one is perfect and I believe that everyone makes mistakes (and I've made a million of them) but as a sales professional for many years, I believe that a persons integrity and honesty are religion and GM's blatant disregard for their customers seems more prevalent every time I've dealt with them. I take my maintenance responsibilities seriously and believe that everyone that spends sufficient time and effort maintaining their vehicles will be rewarded with reliable and long lasting products. After having serious quality related problems with my last vehicle at 14 months NEW (ball joints and transmission to name a few) and GM stating that "I was over the one year period and that there was nothing they could do about it", this was the last straw after numerous cumulative years of their arrogant and irresponsible attitude. It has now become a personal issue of business ethics and general decency (not on who was going to cover the cost of the repairs!).

After reminding both the dealer and various GM individuals of my years of GM loyalty (I've even owned a Citation for god sake and came back!), they politely avoided any possible avenue to meet me even 5% of the way with a vehicle just out of warranty and had 28,000 miles. After paying over a thousand dollars in repairs, in addition to my occasional transmission problem now becoming a full time issue AFTER THEY REPAIRED IT, I'd spent a lot of money and still had a 14 month old vehicle that ran poorly. Not only did they not know how to fix it but their "Oh well, tough luck, can't do anything more about that problem and your stuck with it" attitude surfaced again. Please understand that this series of circumstances is only with this vehicle, not including other I've had with the previous Jimmy and that god forsaken Citation.

At this point, the two most sacred letters in my vocabulary ("G M") have been tarnished forever. I'm certainly not psychologically scared for life but this continual disregard for GM's loyal patrons truly disturbs me since they spend millions of dollars advertising to potential customers but ignore those that buy GM regardless of class ratings and other comparisons where they have faired poorly among their competitors. Some of us do believe in loyalty and buy regardless of test reports which posses the question:

"When's the last time anyone ever read a road test or multiple vehicle comparison with a Jimmy or Blazer that rated anything other than last or near the bottom when compared to other SUV's?"

I can't remember the last time (and I read these articles religiously); therefore, common sense would dictate that GM take care of loyal patrons that buy based on GM loyalty versus class leading performance and features! This is a blatant case of not knowing your market and mistaking your product for something that it's not!

In general, GM has forgotten the cardinal rule that every purchase is earned and not a case of automatic entitlement. GM has forgotten that when people buy a vehicle, they also buy the company and it's everyone's responsibility to ensure that a customer is satisfied. No one can solve every problem, but if people at least showed a little effort and displayed that they even remotely cared to solve a situation, people like myself would certainly be driving another GM product today instead of the 2000 Toyota 4 Runner that has satisfied my requirements beyond belief!

What a shame!

Strength:

Nice looking, strong suspension, not too bad on gas (about 17mpg), good amount of space

Weakness:

I get that weird "clunk" somewhere in the drivetrain sometimes - don't know what that is. I had the U-joints replaced. The rear window washer hose broke and was leaking, so I don't use that anymore. Replaced the brakes once - not bad. Rattley when going over bumps.

I bought the Jimmy SLS in January of 2000 when it had 45k miles on it. Luckily I bought an extended warranty with it. It has been a pretty good truck so far, nothing major (knock knock). It was really good in snow and when it has to pull itself out of a jam. Couple little things went, but if you catch it early, its usually not too bad. Overall, it has been a pretty good running truck, but I am quite concerned about the rest of the reviews I have read about it.
