Strength:

Visability, storage and roominess is great.

Weakness:

I thought it was only me - but i feel a little better knowing that i am not the only one with all of these problems.
I have over 102,000 miles on my vehicle (i guess i should be happy i got this far).
As with everyone else - i have had my brakes replaced 3 times 300-500 per repair.
I have had the 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive sensor just replaced for $600.
Luckily nothing else has gone wrong but with this many miles and with all these comments i am expecting the worst and will not be shocked at the next expense.

These have to be the worst braking system on any ABS equipped vehicle ever devised. I have another car with an ABS system and they are twice as good as the system on these vehicles.

Would not recommend the vehicle due to the many times that repairs are needed to this model and since GM has not fixed the problem over the past 7 years.

The ride and storage is ok. but the repairs are ridiculous.
not worth it.
I have owned 6 GM products over the last 10 years and this is definately the worst.

Strength:

Lets try to give GM a little credit, my old 85' Blazer has been limping along ever since 1985 without hardly doing anything to the poor beast. I like the inside.

Weakness:

It has almost no power.

This little unit has served my family well. We have had it for about six years. The motor has a nice oil leak going but it just needs a bit of filling up every once in a while. The transmission has been rebuild some time along the way, it works fine now with 200,000 miles+ on it. The motor is a great trimph. It is slow, that is for sure, but it is verry reliable! It has no trouble starting and it will never leave you sit, or hasnt so far. Recently the rubber on the harmonic balncer got dry rotted and it was ultimantely running for about four months without a balancer untill we looked onto the funny noises it was making. We all were supriced (my family and I) that the motor had really not suffered from this ordeal. I know it isnt a race truck but the little tyke keeps on-a truckin' and does really good in the snow, when the four wheel drive decies to work, new problem, get the pit crew on it. Yep.

It compares to a 72' Jeep Cherokee, they both run about the same and they both never seem to die, just keep on trucking no matter how slow they accelerate.

Strength:

Size is very comfortable; not too high yet sufficient clearance. Good in snow and sloppy weather. Comfortable ride; very quiet.

Weakness:

Brakes continue to be a constant problem. Have replaced cracked disks, completely worn disks. Average about one set of disks per 1.5 years. Told by one garage that brakes were designed for sedan, not truck. Just spent over $4,000 on engine repairs. All seals leaked, new water pump, two fuel injector replacements, two or three drive belts, shafts, rings, and on. Second time in body shop for rust, plastic door latch broke, rubber gasketing corroding. Had been bringing in for oil/filter changes every three thousand miles. Think that was a waste of money in consideration of major engine problems.

Wouldn't recommend it simply because mfr kept brake problems (disk sizes, computer assisted ABS problems)quiet for years. Wouldn't trust GMC again. Despite religious maintenance schedule, incurred major repair bills. Lot of money for a machine that had only a five year, (in my opinion), effective life span.

Strength:

good sound system, many dealerships and garages nationwide, quiet interior, nice heated seats

Weakness:

Miserable fit and finish, poor dash design, cheap materials, poor reliability, very fuel thirsty (even for an SUV), poor choice of tires, engine sound (to be picky), primitive 4wd system.

I have this 2000 Jimmy as a rental for 2 weeks now. Almost new ~ 10K miles on it, am using it currently for both city and highway driving in very cold Montreal winter conditions. From the start the rear wiper did not work well, the rear window washer fluid was leaking inside the car rather than outside, the push button 4WD works intermittantly (got stuck in 2wd for a couple of days during a snowstorm, got stuck in 4WD Lo for a day) I get about 200 Km per gas tank in 4WD, very sensitive to lateral cross winds on the highway, poor on-center feel of steering (ie vague steering) and the engine sounds like if it swallowed a bucket of water.

On the plus side, quiet interior, comfortable suspension, nice radio, the transmission shifts well and the motor has decent power.

Unfortunately, as with most GM cars/trucks, I cannot understand why reliability is such a problem these days. Assembly quality is also quite terrible. In general I am quite disappointed and would not recommend this car since many other better vehicles in this catgory exist out there (ie. Ford, Toyota, Nissan...)

Rides great, heater works well, Remote works

Weakness:

Well lets see, my biggest problem at the moment is that my Engine Coolant, which GMC uses a synthetic, turns to MUD!!! It is supposed to be pink, and last 150,000 miles, well at 42,000 I had to get an acid flush done to the entire system cause my coolant had gone grey and gritty. GMC did not want to call this a defect caused by the car or the synthetic coolant..but agreed to only charge me a $100 deductible (of course no warranty was on the car). So its been 4 months and 8,000 miles and my coolant is back to the way it was..grey and muddy...Oh, not to forget...it also makes a nice gurgle sound in the engine block when you accelerate. I am also questioning the 4wd system at this time because after having some snow this year and Brand new tires...I am SLIDING ALL over the road in 4HI, especially fishtailing. Lets not forget my demonic windshield wipers....sometimes they work, sometimes they don't...usually all i have to do is jump out the car and push them back and forth a few times to get them going? Thats normal right??? An old crank style wiper?? Oh well, I think I should have bought the Grand Vitara I liked instead, same money to buy but was told the Jimmy would be worth more than the Suzuki in 5 yrs...YEAH RIGHT.

I can't recommend this car, unless you like being in the service shop every other month.

Strength:

Nice smooth ride, glad i went for the SLT options seems like GM puts a little more effort into the SLT;s with the heavy duty shocks, and the wider tires, so far so good,,,my brakes are really good, considering i only driven it about 1000kms so far i dunno, but i got the extended warranty so im covered regardless...

Weakness:

The drivers side door, makes a squeak, but warranty will fix that

I had a Jimmy SLE before I went for the SLT,, it was a nice truck, ran fine, nothing out of the ordinary.,,.,.,.,,.

Weakness:

Where do I start!! What a piece of junk!! Very unrefined, terrible build
quality, cheap materials inside and out, poorly engineered car

I would not recommend this 1999 GMC Jimmy to anyone. It is very poorly
built and rattles and squeeks horribly. The engine stumbles always and
guzzles gas like a V-8 with the 4wheel drive off!! Wheels/tires are too
small/needs 16inchers. Handles poorly/too much body roll. Dealer service
is so-so. MUST avoid the Envoy package. The envoy trim does not fit
well and constantly needs to be "popped back on". What a piece of junk!!
I wont buy another GM vehicle ever. The Jeep G/C and Acura MDX are a much
better choice for comparable money.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. MUCH better vehicle. No squeeks/ratlles ever!!
This GMC cant hold a candle to the Jeep. The Jeep was built like a tank!

Strength:

I like the spaciousness. The suspension is smooth.

Weakness:

The breaks are a death trap! I have had three close encounters with death! When I applied the breaks, NOTHING HAPPENED!!! I almost hit a car. The second encounter with the breaks drew me within 3 feet of a pine tree!! The most recent encounter involved slamming into an elm tree at 30 mph. Each and every time I had the breaks checked I was informed nothing was wrong. I have owned this car for less than six months and it has been in the repair shop twice costing me over $1200. As we speak the car is in the shop once again with the same old story that nothing is wrong with the breaks. I am soooo frusterated!!! Previously, I owned a 1989 Jimmy for eight years and never had a problem. IF I DIE IN THIS CAR I can only hope I save a life for having written this review! I felt safer in my 1961 VW BUG!

If you are suicidal go for it!!!
