SLE 4x4 Jimmy
Strength:
Lots of room for grandkids and hauling "other stuff", great handling, perfect interior, looks great!
Weakness:
Could be a little bit better on gas. Memommy loves "Jimmy"! This grandmother bought the Jimmy used from a great dealership in Jax. It was/is in mint condition, inside and out. I have only lifted the hood one time, personally, since I bought it and that was to check the coolant. It has been serviced regularly, as it had been in the past, and has never used additional fluids. Regular maintenance is the key to any piece of machinery, especially vehicles. Don't know what to tell you guy with all the problems. A lot of problems have to do with how it is handled and serviced from the get go. I've got 81,000 miles on this one and I can't say enough good things about it. Being a do-it-yourselfer and living by myself in the country, I must have a dependable vehicle that #1 - I can afford; #2 - is dependable, especially to get back and forth to the job; #3 - I can haul in (because I don't have a truck - and if it doesn't fit inside, my tow package allow me to quickly hitch up a trailer),and #4 - I feel safe with my grandchildren in it. With the child-proofing features on the doors and windows, and the seatbelts everywhere, the only other thing I can do is pray for protection. I have done all I can - with GMC's help. You guys who have GOOD EXPERIENCES with GMC need to send in reviews. Unhappy people always complain. I do. I wish I got better gas mileage with this, but then doesn't everybody. The Jimmy is very versatile. A wonderful vehicle for young and old alike, single or family. Great going GMC!!! Similar Products Used: This is my first SUV. We had, and have now, GMC trucks in the family, and no one has had any complaints or annoying problems. We are happy with GMC. |

Jimmy
Strength:
Drives well in four wheel drive and I have never got stuck in snow.
Weakness:
Front end Ball joints and Pitman arms, does not last, Mine wore out in less than 50,000 miles all road driving. Watch out for the engine it has problems especially the Exhaust recirculation valve. The Jimmy overall looks good and is good for the reason I bought it in the first place, which was to get through all the snow.We only have 70,000 Km on it, thats 43,750 miles. So far I have had to replace the cylinder head gasket that was leaking radiator fluid into the engine, the ball joints I have replaced three times , and now I find out that I have to replace the pitman arm on the Left hand side. Fine maybe if I had 200,000 miles on it but not less than 50. Oh Well buyer beware. Similar Products Used: None |

SLT
Strength:
Comfortable; not too big, not too small. Very roomy, lots of cargo space.
Weakness:
They use too much plastic for the interior trim which can rattle over small ridges and bumps in the road. that is annoying. Problems were relatively small considering all work was done under warranty: We bought the vehicle new and have had very few problems with it. It handles very well, we get decent gas mileage and is very comfortable. SLT model has lots of options including CD player, leather seats, auto-on head/taillights, cruise control, etc. I would recommend the vehicle for young adults, families, and us middle aged people who don't want to be low to the ground but also don't want a huge vehicle. I have to agree with a previous posting that there are a few lemons out there, but a car's performance is heavily dependant on the care and maintenance you give it! Similar Products Used: I have only driven a 95 Jimmy which had many problems. It was purchased used. |

Jimmy SLT 4X4 4.3 (W)
Strength:
Powerplant/drivetrain/frame
Weakness:
CMFI Should be outlawed/ Front brakes....Raybestoes took care of that. ABS has been totally bypassed and the stock system without ABS is GM quality. Tailgate needs work 141450 miles and it sqeeks. Inside spare tire needs outlawed. Pitman arm and relay arm needs beefed. I love my Jimmy with a few exceptions....but nothing a little work can't take care of. I don't know why everyone has a lemon!!!!! This is typical GM. As for the 4.3....get rid of the CMFI, put a chip in, Edlebrock headers, Dynamax cat-back single system, stock honeycomb cat converter, MSD 6A/Blaster GM Coil/8.8 Spiral mag supress wires...Accel Plugs at .50/cap and rotor.....Hypertec Thermomaster computer chip & K&N Filtration. The 4.3 sings to the tune of 250 HP @ 300 ft lbs torque. NOS Octane booster on 92 unleaded 76 pump gas. 20 mpg/80 mph cruise on a 4L60E trans and BFG 30X9.5X15 All Terrain Radials....Darn fine truck!!!!!! Strength:
Sound system.... it's loud enough to dround out the sound of my transmission clunking as it shifts into over drive.
Weakness:
1. Front brakes replaced 1 month ago and the pads are already worn down and need replaced again. This is by far one of the worst vehicles produced by GM. Similar Products Used: Nothing to compare it to. |
