Strength:

First what I like about my CRV is its suspension it is a Comfort Rider Vehicle (CRV) it is so soft when your driving on a path full of holes! (especially here in Manila ,path holes are everywhere!!!) The prize is fair, its less cheaper here in asia compare is the states, Its appearance is no bad at all, the Sound system (Kenwood triple deck edition, I think thats for Philippines version only) Crystal clear!, Fuel comsumption is what really I miss with my CRV not like my two other cars the Ford 150 and the Chevy Silverado its so expensive when its comes to refueling, third is its sun/moon roof. it is amazingly big you can actually fit 3 persons on it.

Weakness:

Don't expect alot of power! Its missing armrest on the passenger sit, I remember this one time when a friend of mind visited me from the states, he notice and ask where's my arm rest? I got speachless for awhile and I just said I don't Im not not Japanese.

two tumbs up!!!

Model Reviewed: CR-V 2 WD LE

Strength:

Everything is so well thought out; dash organized very well; lots of nooks and crannies to store things; 6 large cup holders; easy to fold the back seats down for storage; great gas milage for a SUV; very, very high FUN to drive factor; ride is car like; look is classy, not country bumpkin; cold air; good radio; plenty of room including in the back seat; very adjustable, will fit any size driver or passenger; back seats recline as well as front ones; arm rests; good acceleration for a SUV; excellent car for teenage drivers because great visability, easy to park, easy to control; very versatile - you can take this car to the opera or through a mud field though it should be noted it is not a Land Rover or HumVee and wouldn't be my 1st choice to take on Safari in the Congo.

Weakness:

No gas cap holder on gas flap door (I added one with a part from Hparts.com) No arm rest on front passenger seat (arm rests are there for driver and rear seat passengers but oddly the front passenger seat doesn't have one). No overhead sunglasses/garage door opener storage (though this car is loaded with plenty of other nooks and crannies to store them).

I originally had no interest in this sort of vehicle. Then my wife bought one, I drove it and was hooked and then I bought one too ! Got the red and blue exteriors. For the money this vehicle cannot be beat. Paid 20k including tax and some options though even the base 2WD LE (which is the model we bought) comes pretty well loaded. This vehicle is a bit of a compination of an SUV, minivan and tall station wagon and is a lot of fun to drive. Fit and finish are up to Honda's high quality standards (maybe better since they only build these in Japan whereas Civics and Accords are put together in Ohio and Canada). Looked at different vehicles for 6 months (almost bought a PT Cruiser but this has so much more room and can carry things much more easily)and I am very glad that I waited for this one. The best words to describe this vehicle are "balanced", "practical", "versatile", "economical" and "fun".

Similar Products Used:

Jeep (smoother ride, better thought out, but Jeep has edge on off road)
Nissan Xterra (CR-V handles better, accelerates better than 4 cyl. Xterra,
looks less gunky); PT Cruiser (CR-V is much larger, better acceleration, smoother ride and easier to load - you need to be a stevadore to remove the PT Cruiser's seats to get any carrying room).

Model Reviewed: Honda CR-V 4WD LX

Strength:

Driving Experience:
- Excellent car-like smooth ride
- Easy to steer
- Brakes work well
- Good visibility and easy to operate controls
- Comfortable high seating driving position (great for people who has back problems)

Ingenuity:
- Roomy cargo area when the back seat is put down (67.2 cu.ft.) It lets you fold down either side of the back seat for more cargo space.
- It lets you recline both front and back seats to form two single beds.
- Plenty of cup holders for all passengers
- Waterproof storage compartment hidden in rear
- A table tray between the front seats that folds down to allow access to the back
- A cargo-floor cover that converts to a picnic table
- Good chassis size for easy parking (177.6 Length x 68.9 Width x 65.9 Height inches)
- Good audio system

Cost and Value
- Good fuel economy (22/25 MPG)
- Better than average for insurance cost
- Low maintenance fee (about $2,538 for five years)
- Excellent residual value

Dealership Experience:
- Got it from Nelson Honda in City of El Monte, California. The salesperson was Amy Chung. She provided my wife and me an excellence service. She also has a CR-V herself!!! Our friends also purchased Honda vehicles from her after our referral.

Weakness:

- No gas cap holder on gas flap door
- No arm rest on front passenger seat
- More bottom end torque would make it better
- Seats are uncomfortable, a bit too hard for a long distance driving.
- Cargo Cover is not a standard equipment and it is too hard to remove once it is installed
- Four-Wheel-Drive system has no low range, so the CR-V isn’t for hard-core off-roading, but it can easily handle a muddy two-track
- A sunroof would be nice

- I highly recommend the CR-V to anyone who is looking for a midsize reliable and roomy utility vehicle.
- Consumer Reports’ Top Picks for 2000 picked Subaru Forester and Toyota RAV-4. I would recommend them to reconsider.

Similar Products Used:

- Toyota RAV-4:
- Advantages over CR-V:
- A little better fuel economy (24/28 MPG)
- Better steering on corner
- Disadvantages:
- Less power (127 horsepower)
- Higher cost to maintain ($3,257 for five years)
- Worse than average insurance cost
- Less cargo capacity for the similar price (57.9 cu.ft.)
- Poor audio system
- Subaru Forester:
- Advantages over CR-V:
- More power (165 horsepower)
- ABS standard on all models
- 3 years 36,000 miles roadside assistance
- Disadvantages:
- Less fuel economy (21/28 MPG)
- Higher cost to maintain ($4,329 for five years)
- Worse than average insurance cost
- Less cargo capacity for the similar price (64.6 cu.ft.)

Strength:

Overall functionality is fantastic. Color (Pearl Clover Green) is unique and finish is of highest quality. The vehicle is rattle free provides an excellent car-like ride unlike other SUV type vehicles I have owned or driven. The interior is roomy, front and back. I'm 6'1", 240 lbs. and have no problem getting in or out of the front or rear seats. The visability is very good and all of the controls are easy to operate. Some people have complained about the location of the main power window switches on the dash, but I it. The reclining rear seats are really nice and very comfortable too. All of the cup holders are well placed and functional. The vehicle is easy to steer and the brakes work well and have a good feel to the pedal. The Bridgestone H/T dueler tires are very good tires and are standard equipment. On the new Special Edition (SE) model you get leather interior (very high quality); body colored front and rear bumpers; rear side tinted windows; body colored hard spare tire cover; CD player and cassette; and a crome trimmed grill. All of these extras on the SE really add to the appearance and are well worth the additional cost of approximately $1200 over the EX model. I am a car enthusiast and have owned just about every make (american and domestic) over my 35 years of driving experience. My wife has liked some of our other vehicles, but she absolutely loves the CR-V. You can not only see the quality on this vehicle, but you can feel it every time you drive it. I look forward to many years and miles in our CR-V.

Weakness:

There truly aren't many (weaknesses)! The steering wheel position is limited, even though it is adjustable. It is different but once you get used to it, it isn't that bad. The power is adequate but more bottom end torque would make it better. I have really found nothing that makes me regret buying this vehicle. Honda knows what their doing and it shows!

I highly recommend the CR-V to anyone who is looking for a utility type vehicle that is functional and super fun to drive. I don't believe will find a better like type vehicle in this price range. I paid $24K out the door for the fully loaded SE model. Again, the extra money for the extra features over the EX is worth it! I am a very happy camper :o)

Strength:

nice cargo space compared to other mini-utes; adequate leg room, even for back seat passengers; fairly decent gas mileage for a little SUV; drives like a car; small enough to get into tight spaces (parking not a problem)

Weakness:

Strange things that I got used to really quickly: window switches in a creative place; only driver has door lock control; cupholders are rather shallow; passenger has no armrest; needs a little punch to get over inclines.

got the CR-V in december 2000, ran great until someone rear-ended me at a red light a month later. but i got it fixed, and i still love this car. i think it's a pretty comfortable ride, and i like the look. [i drove a kia sportage rental for like 2 weeks...it was the WORST. there was NO cargo space, and leg room was almost nil - not to mention the lame spare tire release you have to use everytime you want to get in the back.] my second choice was probably the ford escape/mazda tribute, but i use the radio a lot and the gearshift blocks it. all cars have their quirks, but i guess the CR-V "fits" me better. time will tell if this one's a big winner for me. but so far, so good!

Overall a great value for the money. Even the "low end" LX has lots of features. Handles great on ice and wet roads (had the opportunity to try that out the week after I got it!).

Still kicking myself for not getting the EX with keyless entry, CD player and ABS!

Model Reviewed: 2WD LX

Strength:

1) GOOD POWER AND FUEL ECONOMY WITH A SMALLER ENGINE.
2) EXCELLENT QUALITY AND FINISH THROUGHOUT. PARTS DATING BACK TO EARLIER MODELS ARE STILL BEING USED INCREASING RESALE VALUE FOR YEARS TO COME.
3) PRICE. COST IS LESS COMPARED TO A HYUNDAI SANTA FE. A SIGN THAT THE CR-V WILL SELL WELL.
4) MANUFACTURE OF PARTS. LOOK CLOSLY AT HOW WELL EVERYTHING IS MADE, THE ALUMINUM UNDER THE HOOD IS MACHINED AND POLISHED,BANJO FITTINGS ARE USED OFTEN ON THE HYDRAULICS, THE INTERIOR/EXTERIOR PLASTICS WILL WITHSTAND THE SUN AND HEAT MORE THAN ITS COUNTERPARTS.
5)SPACE AND VERSITILITY.
6) DOHC MOTORS WILL BE NOISY AT HIGH RPMS. THIS ONE IS EXTREMELY SMOOTH AND QUIET AT IDLE.
7) STYLING. HAVE NOT SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. IT GROWS ON YOU.

Weakness:

1)WINDOW AND CRUISE CONTROL(POWER SWITCH) LOCATION
2)SOME ACCESSORIES SHOULD BE STANDARD. NO PASSENGER ARMREST, EVEN THOUGH THE BACK SEATS HAVE THEM.
3)TIRE NOISE. IT SAYS BRIDGESTONE, BUT NOT A GOOD IDEA TO USE A FIRESTONE PRODUCT.
4)LOW AND EXPOSED EXAUST SYSTEM.

I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE OLD CIVIC AND I WISH I KEPT IT IF I WAS ABLE TO HAVE BOTH CARS. I WAS EYEING THE CR-V FOR OVER A YEAR UNTIL I HAD THE MONEY TO BUY, LEASING IS THE EQUIVELANT OF PLACING A PAIR OF 100 DOLLAR BILLS INTO A SHREDDER 36 TO 48 SEPERATE TIMES. NO OTHER SUV LOOKS LIKE THIS ONE. NO IDIOTIC MECHANICAL CHANGES OR AUDIO PLACEMENT REDESIGNS AS COMPARED TO THE FORDS. I CHECKED ALL THE RATINGS AND PRICES BEFORE THE PURCHASE AND THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THIS SUV IS WORTH EVERY PENNY. IF YOU PAY 18k AND DRIVE FOR 18 YRS. THATS 1k A YEAR. TRY THAT WITH AN EXPLORER. MINE PERFORMS VERY WELL AND I AM USED TO THE WEAKNESSES. LEXUS' HAVE WEAKNESSES TOO. I RECOMMEND A SET OF THE NEW MICHELIN SUV TIRES ON THE NEXT TIRE CHANGEOVER. I DO NOT THINK I WILL EVER SHY AWAY FROM HONDA AND RECOMMEND THE CR-V.

I OWNED A FORD SUV. IT DRANK GASOLINE AND I TRADED THAT TOO.
