Strength:

Fuel economy and rock-solid reliability. Smooth ride and resale value.

Weakness:

Interior could be nicer. V6 option would be nice. No passenger armrest. No center storage bin.

Excellent so far. Plenty of room. Ride is nice and fuel economy is great and it looks good too. I test drove the Explorer, Rodeo and Jeep but their ride was pretty rough and the build quality wasn't that great either. I also do alot of driving and didn't want to get 18 mpg on the hwy. Very satisfied with the CRV and would recommend it to anyone.

Strength:

Thought Honda would be the strength.

Weakness:

Motor, unstableness very slow and underpowered sometimes dangerous on inclines.

Way too much $ and didnt read the reviews or crash tests untill after we purchased it. Would not recomed it. I am trading it in for a 2000 V6 Grand Vitara next week.

Strength:

Handle wonderfully. Accelerates great. Handles well on snow and ice now that I have replace worn tires. We were involved in a hit and run accident within 24 hours after purchasing this vehicle. If the CR-V had not accelerated and handled so well, my youngest daugher would have been badly hurt. As it was we all walked away shaken but unhurt.

Weakness:

I wish it a V6 engine and a sun roof option. I have had two Honda's and had the radios not pick up frequencies very well. I wish the back would open altogether. But all in all I love this SUV

This is a great vehicle. The mileage averges about 24 MPG. Just wish it had a bigger engine, different design on the trunk, and a better radio. I highly recommend this vehicle.

Test drove a Ford Escape today. The body seemed heavier but the interior looked and felt cheap. It had features I want- V6 engine, 4 wheel drive, liked the way the back end opened and the cargo covering. The things the CRV is missing.

Strength:

Leg Room/Cargo space. The center tray table (how did I live without it?). Cupholders, cupholders. Nimble in traffic. Below Passenger Seat hidden bucket. One of the few SUVs left that comes in a stick! Great gas mileage. Comfortable. ABS and Air bag equipped (on EX). Best value for the money. What other car comes with a picnic table (even if you never use it)? Storage, storage, STORAGE! The overhead map lights are genius! Waterproof well doubles as a cooler! Control Panel is easy to use and find. Great heater/Air conditioner. Car comes fully equipped!

Weakness:

-NO Cigarette lighter. They give you an ashtray but no lighter. What genius thought of that? I hate, hate that 12v power outlet.
- Only driver controls lock/unlock button.
- Needs more power/torque
- I wish the air conditioning wouldn't come on automatically with the defroster. Or I wish when you shut the defroster off the A/C would shut off automatically. I wish... I wish...
- CRV should come with sunroof or roof rack or both.

This car is my child. I love, love, LOVE this car. The room is amazing, it's the "black hole" effect, there always seems to be more space. From hauling snowboards to trips to the beach (with four girls and you KNOW we don't pack light) to going on rides with my two 150 lb. dogs, this car has SPACE. Leg room is great, my 6'4" brother (grudgingly) admits that he has plenty of room to stretch his legs. The car is nimble in city driving and parking is a breeze. However, I do wish that it had a little more horsepower. With a running start my CRV will run up a hill but in traffic, going uphill, the car seems to run out of steam. I would have liked a V-6. This winter I drove it in three inches of snow and the car was PERFECT, I was stunned, I didn't trust the Real Time 4wd. No slipping or sliding. I bought my car with a dealer installed sunroof. If your dealer offers this option BUY IT! You will never regret it. I have had no problems with it at all.

Similar Products Used:

Rav 4- I test drove this one and hated it. No room. Funky styling. Everything you want (power windows, door locks, cruise control, etc.) must be purchased in package form.
Jeep Cherokee- We had one and it went up at 80,000 miles. Nowhere near Honda quality.
Izuzu Trooper- my mom's car. Tons of space. SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. Breaks down every five minutes.
Toyota 4Runner- my brother's car. It's nice but not worth the extra ten grand. Honda gives you just about everything the 4 Runner has. Tons of room but too big for me, I get lost in the car.
KIA Sportage- affectionately known as Killed In Action. Tiny. Terrible transmission. Noisy. Even with the great warranty (which really isn't so hot)
Ford Escape- Gee, does that come with Firstone tires? I don't trust this car as far as I can throw it. Recall me back to the Honda dealership. It was nice when I test drove it but I gave up on Ford.

Strength:

The CRV is a really well made and versatile vehicle. I commute with it and have almost 80K on it already, and no problems yet at all. It gets sorta good gas milage at about 24/25 mpg, and on a long trip I usually get about 28. Easy to work on as I do all my own maintenance including adjusting the valves and oil changes are a snap due to clearance. I really like the fact that one can still adjust the valves on hondas, not toyotas tho as they have the shims and so you must take it to a dealer.

Weakness:

The one that bothers me the most is the lack of power, mainly low end torque. If I could hit the hills doing 85, it would make it fine. But then the chipies will get ya. I would have to say the next would be wind noise. The steerin wheel is next, the placement is weird, but it is not uncomfortable just awkward sometimes. I do not like the armrest on the door as it is too narrow and hard, cuts off circulation in my arm if left too long. Nits I know.

Overall I really like the CRV, can go anywhere and do anything with it and you get no complaints. Is super reliable, the shocks are still original and and would say probably good till 150K or so. I put a K&N air filter in it and that helped quite a bit with a little more needed power. The 99 CRV came with 6's for spark plugs, and I went to the 5's (little hotter). The 5's are now the recommended plug for all CRVs, but they helped a little too. I also put the middle grade of gas in and that makes a difference also, but sometimes I put the low grade in to cut down on costs. I do notice the power difference tho between the two. Once you get the CRV going, it moves quite well if you keep it up over 4K rpm, second and third are good for moving and passing. I also change the trans fluid once in awhile and the new stuff honda has seems better than what came in it. I also found out that if you do not change the A/C filter at about 25-30K, the air flow really slows down. It is not a difficult job to change, just take out the glove box and you can see the bracked that has to come out. Just takes a little time to do, and must be patient. Curious to see what the new CRV will be like and what engine they will put in it. The Accord engine (150 hp) would have been perfect for the CRV, lost more torque.

I had toyota cars/trucks for most of the 90's and I am of the opinion that the Honda is a better made vehicle. I always seemed to have at least one problem with every toyota I had.

Strength:

Nice amount of head room. Rear window opening separate from rear gate is easy to put one or two things into the trunk.

Weakness:

Needs more horesepower. Vehicle is intended 2 carry 4 people, plus a few things in the back. Going uphill it seems to struggle. The engine is better suited to the civic, but affords good gas mileage.

So far very positive. Several family members have owned Hondas. All of the models made in Japan follow their same reliable quality. When I sell my Mazda, I'll probably buy another Honda. Good all around vehicle with room, and comfort, without guzzling gas. I plan on keeping it at least 7-8 years.

Strength:

Efficient use of space. Excellent visibility. Quiet, comfortable ride and good handling. Very convenient for daily use - storage bins, split rear hatch, easy to fold rear seatbacks. Solid fit & finish - rattle free after close to 60,000 miles.

Weakness:

Engine, while reliable, is somewhat underpowered. As a result, it can be a bit noisy at times and the gas mileage isn't as good as one would expect (given the size of the vehicle and the 4 cylinders) because the engine constantly has to down-shift just to get up hills or keep up with traffic. The front seat bottoms aren't long enough for tall folks - it feels like you're sitting on a ledge.

It's a great SUV for its size. The handling and 4-wheel drive capabilities are sufficient for most drivers' needs. The engine is a bit underpowered, so if you live among hills or travel on them frequently, you might be dissatisfied. Similarly, if you are long-in-the-legs you might find it less than suitable for trips more than an hour or so.

Similar Products Used:

More space-efficient than most other SUV's, and the reliability has been outstanding. Honda's fit and finish puts the new Ford Escape to shame by comparison.
