Model Reviewed: Honda CRV

Strength:

After I developed arthritis in my spine, hands, and knees, I needed a new car because I drive all over Calif. for my job, sometimes putting 300 to 500 miles in a week. I checked a lot of different cars, because I thought I would have to give up on Honda (They are typically too low to the ground} I was heartbroken because I have been a Honda fan for 20 years, and my car, at that time, was an old Honda Civic with 600,000 miles on it and still running like new). After trying larger sized cars and preparing to give up economy for comfort, someone pointed out that the new CRV's might be high enough for me to get in and out of more comfortably. I was delighted when I climbed in a Honda CRV. The height is perfect for people who have mobility problems stemming from spine and/or back problems. The seats are extremely comfortable, and the lumbar support in the lower bottom of the seat really existed (Unlike others who advertise it and then after riding 20 minutes, you are in agony). The interior is set up well as it has everything conveniently within reach for the driver, and controls are sturdy and big enough to use for people with hand and finger dysfunction. The ride is really smooth, there is no noise and the mileage is great. I have heard that some say it doesn't accelerate well, but mine hops up and goes when I hit the gas. I have been able to sit for 16 hour drives and walk around when I get to my destination. This is something that is important, as it wasn't uncommon to be bedridden for a day or so after that type of trip when riding in other cars; including Voyager and other similiar vans, and even much larger vehicles. In fact, it's easier on me to drive for 16 hours now than it is to fly for 3. My daughter is 6'2" and has survived the same trip (16 hours) in the back seat with little complaint. She says that that the reclining back seats are really comfortable. As a gardener and pet owner, I find the cargo space to be well thought out and I can haul a lot of items about easily. It's also easy to clean later. I adore the picnic table concept, although I've never used it, but I have used the waterproof compartment. I love the car, and have found myself sitting in parking lots with other CRV drivers, talking about how great it is. The back heat and wiper system is very efficient and it defogs quickly as well. The heating system is quick and very adequate. I guess the smooth ride and comfort are my two main focuses, as the car literally saved my job. I've noticed a lot of disabled liscense plates on Honda CRV's so I'm not the only person who has benefited from the affordable comfort.

Weakness:

The rear windows should be tinted as anyone can walk by and see everything and there's really no place to conceal larger items, once the waterproof compartment is full.
The back seats should have cup holders.

I got it for $500.00 over the dealer's price.

I love the car and recommend it a lot.

Strength:

It's a H-O-N-D-A, smooth ride, very roomy, excellent gas mileage for the kind, good insurance, any weather condition and it looks good.

Weakness:

Nothing so far.. just that it does not talk to you.. :)

20K for the loaded EX and I definitely have been recommending it to others. Excellent choice for the money and it should last a very long time and keeps it value up.

Strength:

high seating gives you great visiblity. Very good ride compared to other suvs. Very roomy interior. fit & finish are typical honda: excellent. No defects in car and expect it will run forever with proper care. Haven't been in bad weather yet but all wheel drive gives confidence. Milano red color turns heads. It's a very good looking car.

Weakness:

The steering wheel is WAY too horizontal and it feels like you are driving a bus. The tilt wheel doesn't help at all. I don't understand why the wheel is this way. Where the heck is the gas cap holder? Are you supposed to hold the gas cap in your hand when you are fueling? I guess so. What would it cost for a gas cap holder? Maybe 5 bucks. Come on Honda! Also could use a little more power at highway speeds. Downshifts to third gear on hills on highway just to keep up.

2000 lx leased for 306. per month for 4years 300. down. With one or two quibbles about the car I would highly recommend it.

Model Reviewed: LX 4WD Lots of Accesorries

Strength:

4WD system which is automatic, smooth ride, cargo space, and backseats are HUGE I think bigger than any other midsize SUV !

Weakness:

Fully loaded with a canoe on top does lousy on very steep hills.

I love how it acts like a SUV and like a car. I reccemond it to anyone who doesn't need a macho image of a Huge SUV. Most people don't drive their SUV's off-road but I do and I have no problem with the CRV on crappy Roads and Trails! I also love the fact I could drive this vehicle forever because it is a Honda!

Model Reviewed: /Honda CRV

Strength:

It drives like a car. It's sporty. It's like a SUV but not (other CRV owners will understand what I mean). I like the options that I can do with my car (ie. drop seat for moving full, haul xmas tree, stashing my golf clubs). AND it's not a Honda car that everyone has! (my area is filled with Civics and Accords)

Weakness:

People say the power but honestly, I like revving the engine... I know it's not a sports car but it's kinda cool that I can do that :-). Also I don't really hear the noise. I think it's fine and love crusing in the car!

As you can tell, I love my car... I actually bought some extras for it. I swapped out my LX stereo system for a Sony Minidisc Head Unit MDX-7970, MQ Quart 6.5" Components in the front and MQ Quart 6.5" Coaxials in the back, Sony 10 disc CD changer. Not to mention I bought the CRV cargo cover and cargo mat (try www.partscheap.com for reduced Honda CRV addons). My CRV from the outside looks just like any other but once you sit inside, I'll tell you, it's a different world :-).

Strength:

handling, styling, roominess, Honda reliability,

Weakness:

underpowered, EX should come with leather and heated mirrors, wind noise

We paid 19K for ours. Had a hard time getting one because of the color we wanted (blue). Traded a 89 Lincoln for it and I have never looked back. Although I do miss my leather seats and temperature readout. Dealer told us leather would cost us $1200 so we said no. I'll take Honda reliability any day over a Lincoln!!
Four wheel drive seems to work just fine--some kind of an indicator light might be nice though. I have had no problems getting anywhere I want to go and I drive 40 miles a day to work. I wouldn't take my CR-V rock climbing but we do take it off the pavement and have had no complaints.
We are getting around 23 mpg I was sort of hoping for more having driven a Honda Civic years ago. But 23 isn't too shabby (brother has a 5.4 V-8 in his Ford truck and gets 15).
Ours came with a roof rack and it definitely makes it more sport-ute-ish. Road noise isn't too bad, but could be improved. One our doors has a problem and makes a bad wind noise when going down the road when wind is blowing hard and from the right direction. Haven't taken to the dealer yet but I am sure the problem will be fixed.
Overall I love my CR-V, would recommend it to anyone who doesn't believe bigger is better, but I do think a V-6 and leather would really be great additions an otherwise perfect small suv.

Strength:

Great packaging. For the same amount of road space of a medium car, I get plenty of room up front, enough rear seat space for my too growing sons, plus I huge boot space as well. The 4WD bit just happens when it has too and that is fine by me. The fuel consumption is great and the build quality is typical honda, faultless!

Weakness:

The roof panel is a little thin, I leant on it when tying something on the roof racks and now I have a small dent on the side of the roof.

Paid $35,000 with a sun roof, alloy wheels, roof racks, ABS and air bags. I would recommend it to anybody with a growing family, particularly if they like to get off the bituman and expore some less well travelled trails.

Strength:

Cleverness of Honda, i.e.waterproof storage compartment hidden in rear, seats turn into beds.

Weakness:

Road noise, wind noise.

Under $30, 000(canadian). Excellent, most complain about power, I find the added 20hp(for a total of 146) that the 1999 version recieves is quite adequate. The Cherokee sport is not even an option for even a 4 person family, the backseat is just an underpaded bench that doesn't even have headrests. The CRV is peppy and fun to drive, excellent at cornering. The 4 wheel drive is excellent for on road driving, it activates automatically at the detection of any slippage. It has a huge rear seat, even bigger than the Rodeo. I don't understand why anyone would pay more for any of these other vehicles, even though the RAV4 has a lower base price if you add any kind of options it sky-rockets.

Test drove Cherokee sport, RAV4, Isuzu rodeo. In terms of price and interior comfort none compare.

Strength:

First SUV I ever owned, very happy with the ride, performance, mileage, lack of repairs/maintenance (except the usual). Would recommend this vehicle to any one who is purchasing their first SUV.

Weakness:

No heated mirrors available; ABS brakes ( as an option) were a little expensive.

Well worth the investment. Would recommend it highly. Thinking of purchasing a new SUV and considering a larger vehicle - any recommendations on PASSPORT?????
