Strength:

Space, comfort, engine power and quiet, automatic transmission, standard equipment, rear seat configuration, safety standards, view, good AC, middle tray.

Weakness:

Weak tires, radio can be hard to reach.

Owned a 1997 for 4 years and liked the CRV expect for a details. My biggest concern was the lack of engine power and automatic transmission shifting that was annoying. My first week with a 2002 CRV and all I can say is that I'm impressed. Not sure I want to drive my 2002 Accord now. I would highly recommend the new generation of CRV's. For those who think that this is a small car well try one first and you will be amamzed at the interior room and trunk space. I would also recommend for thos who are considering a mini van, this is even better it's a AWD. I can't say enough good things about this car. Gas mileage is fantastic compared to all other AWD's out there.

Weakness:

The CRV has very poor handling, the car is too light and I feel extremely insecure driving it. I feel I loose control of the back when I turn, try to accelerate when turning and driving on gravel road. It has odd door locking system. When you lock the doors but decide to unlock them right after for any reason, it does not allow you to do that. The tires are toooooo small for that car, the doors are so light that you have to be very careful when closing them and if you just put some pressure on them with your finger you will see them bending like a can of soft drink. The car does not have abs something I was looking for when I bought it.

I have had the CRV for a year and I can't wait to sell it. This is the worse car I have had in my life. At 6000 miles and I am already tired of driving it or "trying" to. I think that Honda thinks that because of their name they already have a good reputation. I disagree with them.

Again, this 1997 looks and drives like new. From my past honda experience you won't find me broken down on the side of the the road. For reliability you can't beat a honda. It's going to be a great car for me to fish in. The air conditioner still pumps out cold air.

Weakness:

My wife drives a 1998 accord and now loves and wants to drive my crv which may jepardize some of my fishing excursions. The stero controls are difficult to use.

I've been looking for a used honda and found one just under $7000. It was real clean even with 105,000 miles on it. It rides smooth not rough like other suv's I've tested. There was a rubbing sound in the rear when I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. The dealer changed the differential fluid and now the car sounds and runs perfectly.I have to replace the timming belt at my cost. I expect to add another 100,000 miles once this routine maimtence is completed.

Strength:

Zippy, sprity smooth running engine Absolute solid road feel Tidy engine layout Solid handsome dash

Weakness:

Rear window washer spray nozzle Steeply overpriced accessories Road and wind noise over 60mph Break pads seem to wear much too fast and breaks are very touchy after 12,000km Very expensive for a little SUV. I bet Honda is making a fortune on this one. A fair price would be around 16,000 USD not 21,000 up

If true, it's sad if Honda has a full time employee writing bogus reviews. But I am surprised because the CRV doesn't need any defending. It's a great little SUV. I have a 2003 CRV EX and what I really like is that I can feel the road when steering. I really dislike overboosted power steering and really do appreciate Hondas efferts in creating perfectly balanced steering/road feel. I drove 12,000 km in just 2 weeks on a touring trip, mostly at 85 - 100mph on the hwy and the engines is so smooth it's scary for a only a 4 cylinder engine. Too much road and wind noise though. Great overdrive on the automatic transmion for fuel economy, but no power on long uphills but can't complain for a 4 cyl. If I drive a constant 60 mph I get 380 miles on one tank of gas. The problem is, the CRV is so well balanced and smooth that I end up driving way faster than I should. Breaks are good but after 12,000 km's they seem to be a little touchy now. I didn't like the seats when they were new, but the foam is breaking in now and they really do feel very good, although they are still quite stiff. Changing the oil and filter is so easy as I can get to the oil filter by running my hand between the front tire and through the fender opening. Love not having to get under the car for this. I really do love the dash. It is so solid and well layed out and the car has absolutely not rattles and the dash has an AUDI solidness feel to it. You just get the feeling that this car will last a long long time. Rear legroom is very good and love the recling rear seats. Accesories are ridicously priced, but normal wear and tear parts are really cheap. I don't know why some people complain about the stero because it has the best sound quality I have ever exerienced in any of my cars. I really do mean this. One thing I think Honda could have improved on is the rear window washer nozzle. It is very flimsy and if you wash your car and bump it as I did, it basically loosens and is virtually impossible to tighten and allows water to leak inside the read hatch. On concrete highways the road tire/road noise is very dissapointly loud and I will try every trick in the book to insulate it from the noise. Overall this is the absolute best car I have ever owned and for the few things that I didn't quite like, I would still give it a 5 out of 5 for quality, fit and finish and performance and 3 out of 5 for value as I really wanted this baby even though I knew it was overpriced.

Great handling, comfort, visibility, road clearance, storage, looks. Pretty quiet ride and decent gas mileage (19-22mpg local, 24-26 hgway).

Weakness:

Underpowered on highway, especially on hills. They nedd a six for this model.

It's been a great small SUV. But I had check engine light come on a year ago that called for flushing transmission fluid. All was well but it has just happened again. I'll have it checked next week. Hope not recurring problem.

Strength:

Gas mileage Quiet ride VTEC engine (Do some research into it) AWD system Comfortable seats

Weakness:

Tires (Stock tires are weak)

First of all, let me say that I love this car! Originally, I was looking at Liberty Jeep (Gas mileage wasn't pretty and they were supposedly to get a moderate facelift next year?) and Ford Escape. I liked the V6s and I wanted to get a small SUV with decent power but I had to be realistic. I went ahead and got 2003 EX CRV because its reliablity and high gas mileage. Don't be fooled by its V4 engine. It's a VTEC engine and it's pretty powerful and delivers the most "bang" for its V4 engine. It's great and quiet at the same time. Needless to say, this car will last me forever.

Roomy for a small SUV Good gas milage Back seat design great! Hopefully will be as reliable as the good ol' Hondas were!

Weakness:

CHEAP paint, interior & stereo Noisy even with new tires See all the other gripes above!

First things I had to buy the day I bought the car were a moonroof visor as the wind POURS in and all season floor mats which, on the drivers side, are a joke as they don't cover the cheap carpet where your feet rest. Consequently the carpet has rotted in just one winter! The next purchase was a good set of Michelins to help reduce the road noise. I was going hoarse trying to be heard over the noise. Took my back about 3 weeks to adjust to the hard seats. E-Brake location and shifter location took some getting used to. I had it back to the dealer within 2 months of purchase because of the overly grippy brakes (said there was nothing they could do!) and the overly sensitive ABS(again, nothing they could do). Now there is a thumping feeling and noise in the right front brake and they are rusting quickly which the dealer says is normal. The interior is CHEAP! Dash scratches easily, so does exterior paint! One ding on the front of the hood from probably a rock and it's rusted already! Visibility out sides/back is questionable. What is with that drop table between the front seats? Cup holders aren't big enough for a bottle of water and there's all that wasted space underneath it! Back is roomy, fact that back seats are somewhat adjustable and removeable is a plus for adult passengers. Gas milage OK. Chose it over the RAV4 because the moonroof in that wasn't even glass and there was less space. It handled much better though and was more fun to drive. I've owned 3 other Hondas and with the re-design thought this would be the best choice. Now I'm doubting that!

Strength:

- Quality/Reliability/Solid feel - Interior roominess - Mileage - Great fun to drive

Weakness:

None of these are a big deal: - a bit pricey compared to competition but worth it - road noise on less than perfect roads (good pavement is OK) - 6 CD changer/stereo could sound better - backwards opening cargo door for curb loading - power mirrors that won't adjust high enough for tall people. - steering wheel wont adjust high enough for tall people. - hard seats that get tiring on long trips (there are no power adjustments either). - not enough towing capacity (but not designed for it I suppose) - a V6 engine would be a nice touch

We heard and read about the legendary Honda reliability/quality and decided to give it a go. We weren't dissapointed. The quality of this vehicle is amazing - have never owned anything quite this good. Gets great mileage, looks good and is fun to drive (looking for excuses all the time!). It has a solid feel, a smooth shifting automatic transmission and no squeaks or rattles. Everything can be improved, however, and I'd like to see a bit more towing capacity, more sound insulation and a better stereo. See weaknesses below - all are minor but maybe Honda could work on these for future designs.

Strength:

Passenger and Cargo Space, Center CD holder, ground clearance, pick-up The price is unbeatable but make sure that you negotiate and be prepared to walk out of the dealership if the price isn't right.

Weakness:

Styling of the rims/wheels

I love this vehicle! After test-driving the Rav-4, Escape and Toyota Highlander, I had decided on the Rav-4. I was not considering the CR-V because I wasn't aware that the body style had changed in 2002. After a friend persuaded me to look at hers, I was intrigued and made it a point to go in for a test-drive. I was smitten from the start. The car is smooth, has great-pick up, handles almost as well as my 1994 Civic EX, and has decent styling. My only complaint in regards to styling is the crappy rims on the LX. I also don't think that the EX version is worth spending an extra $3,000. If you want the extras you can always add them later at a much lower price. This small SUV makes the RAV-4 look puny and inadequate.

Strength:

Smooth driveline and very effective 4wd with front wheel bias which is superb on glare ice

Weakness:

slighty cramped for tall drivers road noise, tire noise and break noise passenger can't unlock right front door

Traded a 1999 Durango and no regrets except possibly steering wheel position: I am 6'3 and sometimes feel cramped. Great drivetrain and one of the smoothest four cylinder engines in the world: no vibration at speed in the side mirrors. Rolling stops with a right turn produce a driveline clunk as though the four wheel drive is attempting to engage. The breaks are noisy if you back up then stop and move forward- the first application sounds as though the calipers moved and then hit their stops--even the service tech admitted something wasn't right. road noise is excessive but tires might help. The car was just smashed by a bus but as much as I like it I think I'll try a Toyota Highlander. The CRV is really a fun vehicle to drive if you like responsive/light steering and a nimble non-heavy vehicle feel. Overall a well laid out design and great vehicle.
