Santa Fe GLS V6 -AWD
Strength:
Quality vs price ratio =Excellent Controls are simple and well laid out. Great styling, unlike anything out there. Shiftronic and V6 are must haves.
Weakness:
A little thirsty on fuel. I get about 450kms on one tank. Transmission is fragile. Hyundai (Clarion) Radio buttons are WAY too small to adjust while driving. Under body skid plate beginning to rust at the bolts. Actual HP is 173 NOT the advertised 181 Keyless remote should have a button to open just the driver door, not ALL doors at once (safety) as well as a panic button for the alarm. Mine is the Ocher Beige with beige interior. This is a superb vehicle. My 6 foot 4 inch frame fits nicely inside the cabin. Drives extremely well and fit and finish inside is fabulous for the price range of this vehicle. Cargo room is sufficient and rear legroom is generous. Canadian GLS models have leather and 6 speaker CD stereo, heated seats and AWD standard. Wish there was an LX available. The only issue now is the horsepower "misstatements". Originally it had 181 hp now it really has 173hp??? Similar Products Used: Tested: Subaru Outback and Legacy GT wagon Rav4 AWD, too pricey and not as much equipment available in same price range. NO V6 either. Previously owned Pathfinder LE 1998 |

Strength:
Power, Appearance (most of it- see below), options, perforated leather, sport-tronic transmission, driveability, stereo, price...what did i omit?
Weakness:
Interior dark grey plastic feels really cheap, front design looks a little like a fish...don't you think? I was skeptical about buying a korean car after many years of purchasing quality products from ford. But I really liked this SUV and got a great deal. I have it in merlot and I believe that it is one of my nicest automobiles yet. :) Similar Products Used: '86 Bronco II (two of them), F150 from the early 80's, '96 Explorer XLT |

Strength:
Equipment,warranty,engine & smoothness..for a diesel.Supplying dealer has also been very helpful.
Weakness:
Shallow paint finish.Slightly 'wooly' handling. We purchased the Santa Fe after doing much research into all the available SUV's here in the UK. The only vehicle that came close to the Santa Fe in as much as equipment was the Landrover Freelander 'GS'.While it was a nice vehicle & has a reputation for extreme off road ability, the cost of it put us off.It was nearly £5000 more! So far the Hyundai is proving to be very pleasing & we are extremly happy with it. We are still 'running it in' but as soon as we have we will be trying it with our caravan on the back.As the diesel engine seems to be a very strong puller it should tow very well. We are very happy with our new SF. The most bang-for-your-buck when it comes to SUVs. Looks nice, rides great, handles fine. An occasional noise when turning sharp. Best with the sun roof. Similar Products Used: Tested CRV, Lexus and Mercedez. |

LX
Strength:
Warranty Features for the price (if the features really work...) Cargo space/interior room. Visual appeal. Car-like handling.
Weakness:
Ridiculously low gas mileage. Loud, rough transmission. Sluggish, apathetic V6 ABS (?) or AWD (?) clunks and grinding Cheap-looking interior trim materials Inferior sound system, touted as 'Deluxe' Like most before me, I did extensive research and vehicle test drives prior to deciding on my Santa Fe. I felt confident in purchasing, based on prior customer's reviews, as well as on the performance during my test drive. For the price, the Santa Fe offered more features, a better warranty, and more visual appeal than many SUVs I had compared it to. I wish it lived up to it's reputation. Unlike most reviewers, my experience so far has been extremely disappointing. The LX has 'luxury'(?) features that I had in my last vehicle: leather, heated seats/mirrors etc. The lack of power seat adjustments is surprising. While the dashboard and trim materials could be upgraded to blend better with the rest of the LX's interior (the plastic, next to the leather, looks cheap) - the overall lines of the interior are fine. I need the cargo space, and the cargo tray and cover really fit the bill, plus the luggage rack is an added bonus. I feel that the avg. MPG estimates were in line for the size/weight of this vehicle (19/23). However, I wasn't prepared to get a dismal 16 MPG highway, and 12 MPG city. This is carrying only 120 lbs. of human being - no towing, no heavy cargo. The V6 is a total dissapointment, both in acceleration and overall performance. I've never heard an engine work so hard to produce so little. The automatic transmission is far from smooth, with unexpected, choppy shifts. Haven't tried the shiftronic - as clunky as the Santa Fe's performance is, the purpose of a pseudo-manual transmission escapes me. Akin to putting a gear shift on a skate board. When the brakes are applied, under normal driving conditions, going both forward AND in reverse, there is a loud 'clunk' that reverberates through the floorboard, as well as distinct grinding noises from the rear wheels. The deluxe stereo system is tinny, with occasional rattles and pops - and not because I'm blasting my music...this happens at 'middle-aged' volume levels! Also, radio reception fades in and out when driving through areas that I've never had problems with in any other vehicle. I am on the road often, visiting clients, so a good sound system is important. Nothing fancy, but I'd like to at least have the same sound/reception as the Santa Fe GLS that I'm driving as a loaner, while the dealer looks into all the problems... Strength:
All wheel drive, Drive is better than anything else in it's class. Great Sterio system, shift tronic is a blast, off road it is a blast, and I could go on!
Weakness:
There are none that I have ever come across. I have owned my Santa Fe for over a year now, and I couldn't be happier with it. For those of you who don't know it is the least expensive in it's class, number one for customer satisfaction, and number one for crash tests. If that doesn't cause you to jump out and buy one maybe this will. All these people that I have heard about complaining about the Santa Fe not being a real all wheel drive vehilce, maybe they should have done their home work. The all wheel drive that they have is a bought technology from non other than BMW! That's right BMW! My uncle just bought one, and I had a good look at it's all wheel drive, and except for a few differences, they are exactly the same. So go buy your north american so called good vehilces, or pay the extra 5000 extra dollars for a toyota or honda that will never be able to match the warranty or all wheel drive capabilities. So all done and said, this is one happy Santa Fe customer. Similar Products Used: Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4, Jeep Liberty, Ford Escape(what a joke), and the twin Mazda Tribute. |

None My wife was in the market for a Mini SUV, and researched all Models within this category. We picked the Hyundai and here's why. The body contour was unique and stood out over the other BOXED shaped SUV's. We choose the 4WD GLS model which came with a Sunroof and ABS Brakes w/ Traction Control. These options in my opinion with the weather in the midwest, was a must. As far as the space and ride, I am very pleased to say that Hyundai did a great job in this vehicle. You cannot beat the price and the warranty that Hyundai stands behind. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
It has lots of room, the interior is very fun and nice. The stlye is sleek and I think the only one that compares is the lexus version.
Weakness:
Too many replaced vital parts I bought my Sante fe and loved it. I still due like it despite the problems I am having. I have had it for 10 months and have had a new condensor, 2 alternators and an idler pulley replaced and my main computer flushed. I like everything about my hyundai's apperence but the pick up is slow. My lights also dm and brighten when thay are on which is very annoying and unsafe. The gas mileage, contrary to many others is good and the sticker price was okay.
