Strength:

Fun to drive! It doesn''t feel like a SUV but more like a large sedan. The price and warrantee are unbeatable. Also included is roadside assistance for the 5 years.

Weakness:

No side airbags. Hard to fill completely with gas. Rear seats hard to put down. Very few other operating issues too minor to list.

We are delighted with our purchase. No quality problems in 1500 miles. We both really enjoy driving it. It has more confortable seats, to us, than the other SUVs that we looked at and more legroom in the rear too.

Strength:

smooth quiet ride, comfortable, great warranty, good looking vehicle inside and out, shifttronic is a fun feature

Weakness:

steering wanders upon taking off from stop, poor gas mileage, shallow stereo system

We were planning on buying the 6 cyl, but tried the 4 cyl and really could not tell a difference between them. The GL was very well priced and had everything from automatic shifttronic to the roof rack. We have driven almost 3000 miles and it has been a delight. The only concern is upon acceleration; the steering wheel always turns itself first to the right and then back to the left. I have driven many front wheel drives and have not experienced this before. We have a GPS and have found that it is 3 MPH off. The gas mileage has been a disappointment at 16 MPG combined city and highway. Hope it gets better. Love the smooth comfortable drive, classy styling, and roominess.

Strength:

Value, at the time nothing could come close (but the CRV changes that). Smooth ride and engine, descent power. Pretty good looking. Well sized. Comfy seats. Pretty good stock sound susyem (6 speaker vesion).

Weakness:

Rattles and bunch of them. I started getting them at about 2000 miles and I keep finding new ones, and the dealer cant fix them. No rear stbalizer bar, so there is more body rol that I expected. Slides easaly in the rain (needs thicker tires). Engine very weak and noisy in the cold (untill warms up). Front brakes not wearing out evenly. 4WD not as good as I hoped (heavy snow can make this carspin out, all 4 whells). ABS and TCS are noisy when working. Low trade in rates (but on par with American made cars so its getting better)

The reason I got the Santa Fe is because I recently moved to Indiana from California and though I would need a real SUV. The Santa Fe was the best thing at the time. At first I was very satified, but know I am having second thoughts.

Strength:

Withstood a rear-end colission and runs great again.

Weakness:

I wish it had a sun-roof.

Great car. It has over 20,000 miles. No problems. Runs great, no outside noise. Unfortunately, I backed into a barrier fence which was 2 feet off the ground. The tire blew out and the bumper was hung-up on the barrier. The good news is that the back window did not break like other SUV''s. The bad news is that we had to take it in for repairs to the shocks, tire, and bumper. It was in the shop for 5 days because insurance delays. But after it left the shop it runs great it is as good as new which is a credit to the Service Department at Eckert Hyundai. They were fair honest and made sure the vehicle was in great condition before returning to us. Thank you, Leonard, Mark and the rest of the Service Department at Eckert Hyundai.

Strength:

Warranty, Credible Reviews, Price

Weakness:

Santa Fe lacks in power. I could use more power. This car is definately not for off-road (like all other small SUVs).

This is my first SUV. So I took time to look around and studied pros and cons of current small to mid-sized SUVs. Without much effort, the candidates were Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Santa Fe (did not like the styling of Honda CR-V). Although I did like the styling of Ford Escape (and its twin Mazda Tribute), I thought Santa Fe had better interior, better options (for free) and warranties. Moreover, from the Internet I could see that Santa Fe''s quality is not bad (those who says it sucks does usually does not say why ... as you can also see at this site but those who says its good gave me satisfactory reasons). So, I boldly bought a Santa Fe and I am really happy that I made the right choice. It now has more than 10000 miles but did not have a single problem. Please buy GLS/V6 or LX/V6. What are you goning to do with 4 cylinder SUVs?. I think those who think this vehicle sucks must have bought the V4 ones. If you are shopping for 4-cyl vehicle, I recommend Honda or Toyota.

Strength:

Excellent pricing and value. Feature-packed. Easy-to-reach controls. Cargo space. Comfortable. EXTREMELY roomy back seat.

Weakness:

Could be better on head room. Cassette player not standard. Rear wiper sticks occasionally.

The BEST SUV Value on the market? That''s a steep claim, but I believe it whole-heartedly. Here''s my story. As my 1998 Toyota RAV4 lease approached its end, I began gathering data on comparable vehicles. I knew that I wanted another similarly-sized SUV. I considered the following vehicles: -Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute -Toyota RAV4 -Toyota Highlander -Subaru Forester -Buick Rendevous -Hyundai SantaFe Don''t let its looks fool you. The Ford Escape was too small -- in the front and in the back. Coupled with its pricing, I ceased considering it right away. The RAV4 has the best mileage, but its cargo area is too small. I wanted a larger vehicle this time, but not too large. The Highlander, which was my first choice, just didn''t fit into the budget. It''s an awesome vehicle though. Its ride is extremely smooth and it is very comfortable. The Forester seemed just a little too small. The dealership I went to didn''t help matters either. The salesperson was very condescending and arrogant. The Rendevous -- an extremely comfortable and attractive vehicle -- didn''t fit into the budget either. After 3-4 months of research, test drives and haggling, I was less than 1 month away from the end of my lease and didn''t know what I was going to do. I was sitting at a red light one day, contemplating my next move when I saw a rather "different" SUV. The size appeared perfect and it didn''t look half bad. It was familiar, but not familiar (if you know what I mean). It was the Santa Fe. I couldn''t believe I had forgotten about that vehicle and marked my calendar to go and take a look.

Strength:

All of it

Weakness:

gas mileage

This SUV is the best on the market for the price. I still think it should be in the mid-size SUV. I got mine in August of 2001 full loaded. With wood trim and guard rails. The only problem I''m having is the gas mileage isn''t up to par. When I first got it was giving me about 22 miles per gallon now it around 19 to 20. Going to see the Santa Fe rep this month to straighten it out lets see what happens. I have 8,000 miles on it so the engine is broken it.

Strength:

Smooth, quiet, pleasant ride for city dwellers. I''m not pretentious. Brand names like Lexus, Acura, etc. mean nothing to me. You just can''t beat the dollar value of the Sante Fe. I pity those who drive basically the same vehicle, but paid $15K-20K more.

Weakness:

Lack of moon/sun roof. Since I''ve gotten this car NONE of my friends and family want to drive anywhere. They all want me to drive.

I''ve had my Santa Fe for six months. It has a little over 8,000 miles now. At first I was somewhat skeptical about the Hyundai name, as was my friends and family, but I loved it so much after test driving it I had to get it. Now, I have absolutely no regrets and no hesitations about Hyundai. I am considering buying the Sonata as a second car. In six months I have had NO problems, NONE, either with the car or with the dealers when I''ve taken it in for an oil change and tire rotation. I had the sealant put on, inside and out, so my baby shines all the time. The sealant made the interior look much better. If you have major problems maybe you should check out the way you''re driving. Racing from stop sign to stop sign WILL damage your car.

Strength:

1. Standard Options - Little gadgets everywhere at right location. 2. Value - V6, Leather, 4WD plus options under 25K. 3. Warranty

Weakness:

I can use a little more boost. I occasionally hope that the engine is bigger than 2.7 L V6.

This is my first SUV. So I took time to shop around. I studied similar priced, comparable SUVs e.g., RAV4, Escape and CR-V. RAV-4 was way too small for me. CR-V, I really did not like the looks. So it was either Ford Escape (Mazda Tribute) or Hyundai Santa Fe. Since "FORD" sound like "RECALL". So I took Santa Fe (LX, V6, 4WD, Leather, options). It''s been 5 months and I am confident that I made the right choice. I recommend this car to anyone except those who are looking for off-road capability.

Strength:

We recently had 14 inches of snow. It took our city workers 2 days before our residential road was cleared. When the road was still snow-packed, I intentionally accelerated to rate it''s ability to send power to the tires that aren''t slipping. It performed wonderfully! 0 to 30 in 3 seconds and straight as an arrow (no sliding one way or the other). A "must have" feature in Minnesota. Some people complain about the mediocre stereo. It sounds good to me. Price + warranty = Good value.

Weakness:

It seems to shift a little strange. When not using shiftronic, the engine is allowed to go to (what I consider) a higher than normal RPM before it finally shifts. No moonroof option. It would be nice if the far rear windows could pop open like the far rear windows do in some of the mini-vans. Just a matter of personal preference: I don''t like the A/C automatically turning on when I use the defrost. If I need it, I can decide to turn it on if I want to do so. For those of us with the tow package, I''m concerned about the melting bumper issue mentioned in Monica Howard''s previous posting. I have not had this problem but I will be watching for it.P

My wife and I are pleased with our Santa Fe so far. Ours is the GLS All-Wheel Drive with traction control and a tow package. I waited 7 months to post this message because I wanted to comment on it''s abilty to handle winter driving conditions. We extended our 5 yr./60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty to 10 yr./100,000 miles. Doing this also makes the warranty transferrable to a new owner..
