Strength:

Good size, heaps of room unless your a real fatty, looks a little like the more prestige Merc or BMW, enough power, cant beat it for the money not to mention the 5 year warranty here in OZ.... OH YEH I NEARLY FORGOT Love high driving position its so cool in traffic having a perv on the mini skirts in the small cars below..

Weakness:

crappy on fuel but who cares my work picks up the tab auto box is a bit of a wank its not really anything like a real tiptronic as soon as you hold it at higher revs it changes up automatically and wont let you shift down to 1,2 atr speed. if only it had a low range gear for the heavy off roading and peace of mind.

I was very wery when purchasing this vehicle as I bought one of the first small hatch back models some 6 years ago and was very disappointed. But I can hounestly say that I am really impressed with this car. I got the top of the range avalible in Australia GLX with v6 tip tronic auto, metallic paint, electric sunroof, reversing sensor and abs disc brakes on all 4 corners. I have driven around 10000kms and have cruised the interstate hwy''s it''s soooo quite just like a aircraft with the cruise cntrl set. plenty of power up around the 100km''s range and have sneaked it up to 190 on a deserted hwy and confident that it could do the 200 easy. Just don''t wanna be having to manouvere it too quickly at that rate of haste. I live in a beach side area and have taken it out to sand along the water but not much more than that so far. Would love to hear from anyone who has gone hard core 4x4 as I know this thing is pretty capable even though its missing a low range gearing. I read your comments with grat interest please feel free to email us. Steve

Weakness:

Lack of serious Off-Roading ability.

I have been driving my GLS AWD V6 for one year and without any problem. I would say this is a very reliable car if people don''t OVER STRESSED it. I LOVE MY 2001 Silver Santa FE. The car handles like a dream SUV, smooth and quiet and it doesn''t roll over easily like Jeep Liberty does in the testing report.

Weakness:

gas mileage, Be on the look out for a melted bumper it you have a trailer hitch.

First I want to say I do like my Santa Fe so far even with it''s problems, but I have had some problems. The first problem is the break lights stopped working because the wiring was ran to close to the muffler, the dealership fixed it but it''s not a permanant fix. I now have three new problems that I will be taking to the dealership on Saturday and will let you know how it turns out. The problems now are, the bumper has MELTED, the speedometer is not working right, and the magnet that closes the secret compartment has broken out. I called the dealership to set up an appointment and they seemed very suprised about the bumper but I have heard that it is going to be a recall item from other people. The bumper melting was caused from the trailer hitch get to hot from the exhaust. One other thing that needs mentioning is that it doesn''t get as good of gas mileage as they claim, but for a SUV I think it''s pretty good. Now I will stop complaining. My husband and I have three kids and I was worried about getting a small SUV because of the size of the back seat. I was use to owning a van and having plenty of room. I thought that I would never get use to the size but my husband talked me into getting it, we have a boat and he wanted a SUV because of the boat. To my suprise I love my Santa fe and there is plenty of rooms for my kids, however it did not work out for hauling the boat because it was to much weight for it to pull without making it struggle to much. As I have said I was driving a van but I like the sportier look of the SUV rather than the OLD MOTHER HEN look of a van. Overall I love my Santa fe and I hope on Saturday the problems are taken care of to our liking.

Needs More Leg Room For The Driver

I have had my Santa Fe for 9 months and have logged about 15,000 miles with no problems. I live in Northern Ohio in the country on a lake with a very long steep drive that most visitors fear the use. We have always removed any vehicle from the bottom of our drive by November or it will remain there until the spring thaw. I purchased the loaded V6 all wheel drive and it has been fantastic. On the iciest of days it might slip for a foot and then all wheel drive kicks in and it climbs out incredibly smooth. I find my self-doing 70 on our 55 mph highways because the ride is so smooth and quite. This is one of four vehicles we drive including a 380 SL, but it has become our favorite. My only concern would be a quick maneuver at high speeds; I think it would surly roll. I would not buy it or any SUV for a young teen or inexperienced driver. For the money it is the best vehicle I have ever purchased, if I traded it in today I would probably buy a new one.

Strength:

Tons of features, price, ride, styling.

Weakness:

I can''t really think of any weaknesses.

This is the best vehicle I''ve ever owned. Admittedly it''s my first SUV, but it''s exceeded my expectations in every department. The only problem I''ve had is initially the remote only worked from 2-3 feet from the vehicle. I brought it in for the dealer to look at and 30 minutes later it was fixed. Apparently there is an antenna on the remote which wasn''t screwed in all the way. Now my remote works from 100 ft away, that''s 5x better than the remote on my pontiac.

-SHIFTronic is so cool on the highway! Its like having an automatic and a manual (minus the clutch) all in one!

Weakness:

Haven''t found one yet! BUT..I didn''t like the leather in the one I test drove.

I just bought the Santa Fe last night! After doing a lot of research on the Santa Fe and comparing it to the Mazda Tribute, Ford Escape, Kia, etc. We decided that the Santa Fe was the way to go. We decided to get the GLS version because we HATE leather living in the south with 2 big dogs that will ruin it! We waited for 6 hours at the dealership for them to drive the car over from a neighboring state! It was well worth it! We got the black one, and we couldn''t be happier. We are about to make a big trip from where we are in South Carolina to Houston, TX, so I will have to log back on and post how the car did on the trip!

Strength:

Comfortable quiet ride. Great visibility. Excellent utility. Tremendous value. Getting up 19-24MPG around town!

Weakness:

Needs more low-end torque. Tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd at 2K RPM but engine doesn't produce much power until 3K RPM. A motor with a wider torque range would help. Using the autostick is a great way to overcome this, but then your mileage goes down some.

Outstanding value. Much more comfortable and quiet than anything within $8K. Santa Fe feels more substantial and has better sound isolation than Tribute/Escape. More comfortable driver's seat than most. Lots of attention to detail. Super easy rear lift.

Similar Products Used:

Durango, Grand Cherokee, Explorer, Pathfinder, Rodeo, CRV, RAV4, Sportage, Vitara, Tribute, Escape - Durango and Grand Cherokee were most comfortable but Santa Fe cost $8K-$10K less and gets up to 10MPG better gas mileage.

Price, and the standard equipment.

Weakness:

Needs more powerful engine. Slow on the 0-60.

Great, quiet ride. The interior is very roomy and the controls are easy to use and very conveniently situated. Body styling is nice and curvy, very handsome. Standard equipment is luxurious, like the sunglass holder and the drink holders and power outlets. I get looks everywhere I drive.

Strength:

Good engine, reminded me of the Toyota 3.0 V6, almost as silent as smooth and almost as powerfull too! Good accelaration (coming from an 18 year old). Disk brakes all around. Shiftronic. Good audio system.

Weakness:

At 70mph the engine was reving 3000, not too bad but I have seen better (surely the wight of the car is responsible, and the full-time allwhell drive is also a good suspect). Brakes dont feel as strong as I would want them to be. Dealer would Drop $300 of the sticker!

Great little SUV, actualy its little, it could compete in the Mid-size market if it wanted to, but I guess Hyundai wanted to crash the Mini SUV market rather than bieng the underdog in the Midsize market. Very smotth suspension steering and engine, easy handling, very comfortable cloth seats, I got a great deal on the LX but did not like the leather seats (You will not find quaulity leather in a sub $40000 car.

Subaru Forester good but overpriced, Nissan Xterra OK but... My Dad's 2001 Trailblazer, very nice car and sweet 270HP engine (can imagine that engine in my lighter SUV, zoooom, zooooooom) but way out of my pricerange, My Mom's PT Cruiser, nice car but too many cosmetic problems and I wanted a 4WD for the winter.
