Looking for an SUV and spotted the Santa Fe. I really liked the way it looks and drive and even the 4 cylinder was o.k.
Worry about Hyundai make though excellent warranty! Just refinanced my house and have about 16,000 cash and a 1990 Plymouth Laser RS with 128,000 miles and a new engine and clutch. Very good condition though. Would like to get out the door for that price with a base 6 cylinder but a 4 would be O.K. Do you think any dealer would go for this deal. I think the Laser is worth about 2,000 to 3,500. I t will be my final offer or I will buy a used Isuzu Rodeo-Thank You!

Strength:

The look of the vehicle, Options, Price, and Warranty

Weakness:

No rear latch release up front that you can access from the inside.

After reading several reviews on the new Hyundai Santa Fe and cross referencing it with other SUV's or as these vehicles are now called XUV. For the term, Cross-over utility vehicles,(car based SUV) I was very impressed with the vehicle. I looked at the Rav4, HondaCR-V, Chevy Blazer, Aztec, Jimmy, Highlander, and the Nissan Xterra. It seemed that the Santa Fe was equal to or exceeded any of these vehicles in one or more areas. Then when I heard thet it received the highest safety rating in it's class and that it was given the highest customer satisfaction rating, over the Rav4 and Honda I new that this was a major contender.

Once I drove the vehicle I realized how quiet it was and how well I felt. I do not race a vehicle from stop sign to stop light so horsepower was not a major concern, but I was blown away by the 185 horsepower that the Santa Fe utilized. The options, like the leather package dual heated seats, wood trim, heated mirrows, large cargo space, all-wheel drive/traction control/anti-lock brackes made my decision relly easy. Then the dealership threw in a gold package trim and of course the Hyundai's warranty just sealed the deal.

One of the nice things is that with the added money that I saved on the vehicle I purchased some after market products, like a new mobile video system for the Santa Fe. As of Today, June 20, 2001 I have had nothing but pure pleasure from this vehicle plus a lot of looks at this really sharp XUV.

I would highly recommend it to anyone!!

I was initially very impressed with the exterior of this HOT SUV! the price made it even hotter. I looked at the boxy Jeep Cherokee and the very small Toyota Rav4 and Honda CR-V, but they lacked several key things that the Santa Fe had. The Ford explorer was my final assesment SUV. The Hyundai Santa Fe had the smoothest ride and the most options of any of the SUV's.My leather, monochromatic mirror, layout of the interior were excellent. Then I looked at the rear and front roominess and the Santa Fe dwarfed the Rav4 and the CR-V in theis category.

Finally, it is very comparably in gas mileage with the largest engine, 185 Horsepower in it's class. It had the best safety rating which is very important. I am constantly getting people looking at the SUV with great comments. Also, every time I look at a magazine it has great ratings for the Hyundai Santa Fe. A great buy.

Strength:

power, the ride is too smooth, roomy, long warranty

Weakness:

the stock radio is bad...i'm buying a replacement

A few weeks into new car shopping, and I was getting a bit frustrated. I wanted a small SUV, but could not find one that had everything I was looking for....until I visted the Hyundai dealership as a last resort. I tested them all:
Honda CRV's-nice smooth ride, but was way too small, and underpowered
Nissan Xterra-rough ride, seemed kinda cheap
Toyota RAV4-small not enough room for me, i need something with some space!

I was thrilled when I saw the Santa Fe, very nice exterior, I garauntee it makes the others in it's class look like "Plain Jane". The inside was nice too...roomy and spacious with lots of leg room. When I finally test drove it, I was amazed at how smooth it rides. I own a Honda 2000 Accord EX as well, so I'm used to a somewhat decent ride. I love how this little SUV drove and handled, not like a truck at all..but like luxury car. Needless to say that I would have bought a Honda CRV (love the Honda quality..I own one), but after test driving the Santa Fe, there was no question that it was a better vehicle hands down than the CRV.

Strength:

Combination of price, size, and warranty.

Weakness:

Absense of lights on some controls. Would like more accessaries. (options)

Least expensive SUV I could find. Love it. Plenty of power. Solid. Enough room for three of us. Would not want it for a family of four. No problems in 7 months. Surprised by the ride. It is decent. I have been driving a Town and Country. So, it is not as smooth, but acceptable. Plan to buy another one for me. This one is my wife's.

Strength:

Smooth Ride, Roomy Interior, Very Stylish little SUV, V6 185 Horsepower, Didn't kill my insurance rates, due to the fact that The Santa Fe ranked so high in crash tests! Overall a joy to drive!

Weakness:

Little things like I wish there were lights on the power door and mirror controls.

I can't believe this is a Hyundai. I have owned my Santa Fe for over 6 months and I haven't any problems with it at all. It is so much fun to drive, and all my friends have remarked on how they like it's smooth ride and great handling. Unlike the RAV4 and CRV, it comes in a V6, and I couldn't imagine driving an underpowered 4 cylinder "SUV", what would be the point? The Santa Fe has a very unique exterior, I love the body style--it feels very solid. I also like the fact that the back door opens upwards, not outwards like the CRV, that would be very annoying. I guess to sum it up, this is a quality product, and I don't mind letting the world know how much I love my Santa Fe. These vehicles are a great deal, they seem to be less expensive than the others, and yet, the Santa Fe blows the others away!

The Honda CRV only comes in a 4 cinlinder, the same thing with the Toyota RAV4. I also liked the Isuzu Rodeo, but the Santa Fe had a smoother ride and better gas mileage. The Ford Escape was nice, but the one I test drove squeaked and rattled throughout the drive, I was very unimpressed.

ROOMY FRONT SEAT AND BACK, 4WD ROCKS, PLENTY OF POWER, SMOOTH RIDE, MORE BANG FOR THE BUCK. SO FAR I HAVE BEEN PLEASANTLY SURPRISED BY THE QUALITY OF THIS PRODUCT.

Weakness:

IT TOOK ME FOREVER TO FIND THE ONE I WANTED TO BUY. THE DEALERSHIPS AROUND HERE CAN'T KEEP THEM IN STOCK. I SUGGEST BUYING THE 6CYLINDER MODEL, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.

THIS IS A VERY NICE SUV. GOTTA ADMIT THAT I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE HYUNDAI NAME BEFORE I TEST DROVE IT. BUT THE QUALITY IS DEFINITELY THERE. NICE POWERFUL ENGINE, NICE ROOM INSIDE, GOOD 4WD CAPABILITIES, AND RODE LIKE IT WAS ON AIR. ALSO, THERE'S NOTHING THAT LOOKS QUITE LIKE IT ON THE ROAD, SO IT MAKES AN IMPRESSION EVERYWHERE YOU GO. THIS CAR SHOULD BE COMPARED TO PATHFINDERS, PASSPORTS, AND DURANGOS, NOT THOSE LITTLE UNDERPOWERED TOY SUV'S LIKE THE CRV AND RAV4. HAVEN'T HAD ANYTHING GO BAD WITH IT SO FAR. A NICE PACKAGE AND YOU CAN'T BEAT THE PRICE.

Similar Products Used:

DURANGO, PATHFINDER, EXPLORER, PASSPORT, ALL THESE FOR MORE MONEY AND LESS OPTIONS, AND THE SANTA FE RODE BETTER THAN ALL OF THEM AND HAD BETTER GAS MILEAGE.

Strength:

Performance, so far it's run perfectly through harsh winter weather and occasional rough driving.

Weakness:

Wish they included moon roofs on the LX models.

I've had my Santa Fe for close to 6 months and I've been very happy with it's performance. It's 4wd performed adimarably during the winter when snow was piled higher than your knee caps. Had no problem starting it up and riding through all the mess. I've got to hand it to Hyundai, they've really out done themselves with this SUV.

Similar Products Used:

The Nissan Xterra, I test drove it, but it was smaller and noisy. It doesn't seem to have the polish that the Santa Fe has.

Strength:

this baby is solidly built doesn't feel light like some other small SUV's do...read on the internet that it was the best in some crash tests...overall solid, you feel safe driving it....

Weakness:

needs some lights on the window controls, i have to turn on the map lights whenever i need to access these...with the lx model you get leather seats, but where's the sun roof?

The best way to describe the Santa Fe is amazing. I am amazed that I got such a great deal on this truck. On the outside it may look pleasing with nice lines that resemble higher end type SUV's. But I am equally happy by it's off road capablilites thanks to a powerful 4wheel drive system. The Santa Fe can be nice and gentle, especially on the highway where it glides so smoothly, you would swear that you were riding a car. I also like the warrantly, I don't have to worry about it running out before I'm finished paying for it. All in all a great all around SUV that was made to do it all.

Similar Products Used:

Toyota RAV4, this truck is smaller than the santa fe, and i found it cramped inside

Xterra, the ride didn't compare to the santa fe

Honda CRV--smaller, not as powerful as the Santa Fe, and the ugliest looking SUV in my opinion

Ford Escape--it's a ford...i'd rather not deal with recalls
