Strength:

This truck is unstoppable! I have 200,000 Miles on it and I have only to replace one major thing--the clutch! I has an unbeatable 4WD, it can take me anywhere I want to go! I have only gotton stuck once, and that was when I "bottomed out" in a mud hole"

Weakness:

The fact that you cannot get very aftermarket parts for it. But if go to http://mountaintrooper2.tripod.com/ you can get many things to take the trooper to a whole new level-- the "MOUNTAIN TROOPER" level!

I paid $1500 for it knowing that it needed a new clutch. I would have paid more If I had known at the time of its capability. I would most certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to go off-road, or lives in the mountains like me!

Strength:

Good looks, well put together, quiet, powerful, reliable, low insurence (compared to a Pathfinder or 4runner)...

Weakness:

Brakes, but that may just be because they need to be tightened or something (I just got the car)

I paid $9,600 for my '93 a couple of weeks ago. It is a bit much, but the car was PERFECT. The oil was changed every 3,000 miles, and there wasn't a scratch on it, so it was worth a few hundred dollars more. My Uncle has a '94 that he has owned since new, and he hasn't had any problems with it, which was my motivation to get one as well. You can't beat the price for a used one, and even a new one for that matter. When you look what else you can get, the trooper is a steal. The dealer around the corner from me is offering them for $22,900. What else can you get for that? A Toyota RAV4? Let's see here, a Trooper or a RAV4? Trooper, no question about it.

Similar Products Used:

Infiniti QX4, nicer inside, but it is a 99.5 and 3x more expensive. and the Trooper is a '93, so we aren't really comparing apples to apples.

Strength:

This truck is big and it has some incredible features. It offers a 5sq. ft sunroof, heated leather seats, heated mirrora, and 6 ids in dash cd changer. THe IZUZU TOD system is also very reliable and assures good driving in all conditions. An amazing off road machine even with its luxorious looks.

Weakness:

Tough on gas and a V-8 would a dream but you cant be good on gas with a V8

$34000 for a truck this big and all these features is great. Its definetly something to consider if you are looking at big SUV's. It gives Pathfinders and 4Runners a run for their off-road money.

Strength:

Smooth stiff ride, roomy and a steal (if you haggle
hard enough, you can get the $2600 dealer rebate plus auto x-mission price deducted from MSRP). Less boxy looking than its predecessors, the two-tone
red foxfire mica finish reminds me of a huge Tonka toy. The 7 ladder
construction and GM 3.5 liter V-6 are also pluses.

Weakness:

Diameter of cupholders slightly under-sized. Driver seat adjustment linkage seems cheesey (could be problem after 6 or 8 years).

I paid $23,982 before tax. Nothing under $35K competes with the new Trooper (ie, Tahoe and Yukon were my second preference).

Strength:

Everything. Great power. Nice ride. Smooth.

Weakness:

Handling a little top heavy. Munches the gas.

Couldn't be happier with this car. Have rented almost all other SUVs (except for the BMW or Mercedes) and believe this one is still best.

Great SUV!

Paid about 10,500 and love everything about it.I do lots of outdoor sports fish, hunt, mountainbike and it handles it all with no problems.I put a 3inch bodylift rancho shocks 33inchtires grillguard with Hella lamps and looks even better.I take it off-road all the time on very rough trails.I would recommend it to anyone who loves the outdoors and I have never come close to rolling my trooper.People who shouldnt buy one if they dont want to drive a big vehicle and dont spend time outdoors to appreciate their Trooper

Strength:

smooth, soft ride for a truck, plenty of room and power. Love those power folding outside mirrors, they come in handy in squeezing through tight spots.

Weakness:

I wish the backseats could be removed entirely.

I bought a LS 2 months ago, cost thousands less than a similarly equipped 4runner. Some of the standard equipments e.g. 4 wheel disc brake, full time 4 wheel drive (TOD can be engaged even in dry surface), 10 years 120 miles warranty aren't even available. My wife and I enjoy taking it out for long ride.

Strength:

Excellent and smooth handling. I did quite a bit of research and quizzed many people who own/owned Troopers and found this the absolute Best Buy for the money. Extremely roomy for driver and passengers, excellent built-in security system, and overall EXCELLENT. I now join the ranks of the people I quizzed by naming it My Best Buy!! I can only compare it's size to the Land Cruiser, as I feel they are comparable, and it's ride to a mercedes!! You can't go wrong with Japanese-(sorry American Car Buyers :)

Weakness:

I wish gas prices would fall again so I'm not paying an arm and a leg for running it. But hey, I knew it was a gas guzzler when I bought her. I would gladly pay more for gas to run her, than get a compact car, pay less for gas, and be unhappy.

We bought ours from a private party. Only one owner, and it was in extremely nice shape. Got a Great Price (less than wholesale value-that's what you get when you've got the green in hand :) and am extremely happy with it. Would recommend over every car I have ever owned! Go get one !!!

Strength:

Reliable. My 86 went 191,000 with only routine repairs-and so far, with 35,000, no repairs on the '98. TOD (Torque on Demand)-a true full time all-wheel drive system that is highly advanced. Luxurious-smooth ride, quiet, six-disc in-dash CD changer (great while 4 wheelin' in the summer with the windows up and the A/C on). Rear leg room is 39 inches vs 35 in Mercedes . . .plus about 3 1/2 feet of storage behind the rear seat.

Weakness:

Parts are expensive-like Acuras or Lexus or any other Japanese brand. Consumer Reports (CU) doesn't like it--said it "rolled over" in their tests--funny, at the time of their tests, there was not one (as in 'none') fatality reported in a rollover by a Trooper. And the NHTSA (US Govt Safety Group) tried to replicate the rollover problem--and could not. I suppose CU had a burr up . . . well, they sure do now since the court case against them has been allowed to proceed with much of the incriminating evidence being doctored internal memos written by CU against the Trooper . . . it appears that CU figured some SUV had to be the fall guy, so why not Isuzu.

Paid $500 over invoice and received dealer 4.9% financing. Overall, great deal. I'm looking to buy another-for myself--since my wife drives the '98. Do the math--typically, dealer financing is cheaper to you, the buyer, than a rebate. I'm looking at a 2000 Trooper and and .9% financing is much better (cheaper) than the 2000 dollar incentive and financing it at 7.5%--unless you put a big (half) chunk down. But why--when you can borrow at .9%?

Strength:

Over 132,000 miles and it keeps on going including original brakes, clutch, etc. Big strong engine which hauls heavy loads in the mountains without complaint. Takes bikes upright in the back. Better ground clearance than most. First car I've kept longer than 3 years. Great value, design, etc.

Weakness:

Wind noise around front pillars. Vertical windshield at great risk for breakage from flying stones (I'm on windshield #5)-- even with air deflector.

Absolutely would recommend, but don't expect high performance fast handling. This is a HEAVY vehicle. Recommend for outdoor types who want to haul lots of gear--there's always space to load more stuff. Comfortable highway ride, but shines in rough conditions.

Similar Products Used:

Several Subarus -- also great cars just needed more size and ground clearance than what they had available in 1993.
