Strength:

Engine is stil running like a top at 155K

Weakness:

Paint is cracking
Doesn't float in water (little bro proved that in the Coweeman River)

I have had my ZJ(93-98 Grand Cherokee) for about 2.5 years. I have had it lifted 3" for 2 of those. In my opinion the lift improved the ride and now its an off-road machine. Good gas mileage at 155K. And the ARB front bumper makes it look great. Overall this is a better buy then any 4 runner out there. If you like a little luxery and some thing you can put $1000 into have a very capable off rad rig that still looks tame this is for you. PS JEEP owners are fanatics. Be one at jeepsunlimited.com

Strength:

Everything. Love this vechicle, very few problems (and any problems were minor). Great performance and looks. Very stong structurally and still looks new with a little care.

Weakness:

Gas mileage

My overall experience with this vechicle has been great. Vechicle looks and runs great after 4+ years with a reasonable amount of maitence.

Performs great on and off-road and is great for travel on snowy and slick roads. Interior is comfortable, even for someone who is 6'5". Leather seats have held up great and so has the overall interior.

Rotors were replaced per a recall by Chrysler. A few other things have needed some attention but it was all wear and tear issues.

I would recommend this car to anyone as I have been pleased by it very much.

i like this vehicle because it was the first vehicle i've owned. it's got every option you could think of exept heated seats. i put some 20" inch wheels on mine and it looks killer. i also put a k&n fuel injection performance kit on it screams through the streets now

Weakness:

too many to list.

I too suffer from the notorious pull to the right! I've read over a dozen stories about this particular problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. I had mine in 5 times to get this corrected. Finally they told me I had defective tires. (yeah, ok) So with 4 new Goodyear tires I still have a pull to the right. I suspect this problem may be with the differential. If more torgue is going to the right wheel it should explain the pull to the right. I wish, I wish, I wish I could get rid of my Jeep, but the resale is so low I now owe more than it's worth.

Strength:

Awesome 4x4, reliability, dependability, raw performance, incredibly comfortable interior! Looks smart on and off the pavement. Stock 4x4 capabilities are best in class!

Weakness:

Rear passenger space a little cramped. Can get pricey with lots of options.

I love this truck!

I've had mine for almost two years now. 20,000 miles on it and only two non-maintenance related trip to the dealer (brakes sqeaking at 6K miles, replaced no questions asked by dealer service department... service was completed in less than two hours, the other trip was for the driver's side power mirror acting up -- mirror replaced no questions asked).

I, unlike others, take meticulous care of my vehicles. I follow the recommended maintenance schedules religiously except for oil changes, which happen at 3000 mile intervals instead of the recommended 7500 mile intervals.

My Grand has a 2-inch suspension lift and slightly larger-than-factory tires. It also rides on Rancho RS9000 shocks. I also swapped in a Rancho steering stabilizer to stiffen the wheel up. The rig also has an upgraded exhaust system and a TurboCity intake system.

We've had a lot of fun on the road and off the road. I've done quite a bit of rock crawling, water crossing, and mud slinging in this Grand. It's never let me down. It still drives like new and looks like new. When it's muddied up, it looks absolutely mean! When it's clean, it looks very handsome.

I have the 4.7L V8 with Quadra-Drive.

I cannot recommend this vehicle enough to somebody looking for an SUV! It's been a joy to own and drive these last two years and I look forward to many more adventures with my Jeep!

(P.S. No matter which Jeep you get, be sure to join your local Jeep club and go on trail runs with them... you'd be astounded by what these vehicles can do -- they certainly live up to their heritage!)

WHERE DO I START, I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 4 MONTHS, IT HAD ONLY 4000 THOUSAND MILES ON IT AND THE PROBLEMS NEVER END. JUST READ MY SUMMARY.

WELL, LIKE I SAID WHERE TO START, FIRST I HAD TO HAVE THE REAR WINDOWS TAKEN OUT AND RESEALED AND PUT BACK IN. THE ROTORS HAVE HAD TO TURNED ALREADY, I ALSO HAVE THE NEVER ENDING PULLING TO THE RIGHT, IT HAS BEEN ALIGNED 3 TIMES IN FOUR MONTHS. GROUND WIRE FOR AIR AND HEAT WAS JUST HANGING UNDERNEATH AND HAD TO FIXED, THE RIGHT OUTSIDE MIRROR WAS BROKEN(WAS TOLD IT HAD TO COME FROM THE FACTORY THAT WAY, IT HAD NO BEARINGS OR SPRINGS IN IT). TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED AND BALANCED. I HAVE A JERK WHILE RIDING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THAT FEELS LIKE I AM GOING A BACKWARD, I HAVE THE JERK IN THE SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE AND TO DRIVE. I HAVE A POPPING IN THE RIGHT SIDE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO LEFT. IT HAS BEEN HORRIBLE, I PAY AN OUTRAGEOUS CAR PAYMENT AND I VERY DISSAPPOINTED IN JEEP. OH YEA, I ALMOST FORGOT, THE HEADLINER AROUND THE SUNROOF AND OVER THE PASSENGER SEAT WHERE COMING APART AND HAD TO BE REPAIRED. LIKE I SAID NOTHING BUT A HEADACHE, I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER JEEP AND IF I WERE GIVEN ONE, I WOULD GIVE IT BACK. THE GAS MILEAGE IS HORRIBLE ONLY 17 MPG ON THE HIGHWAY.

Strength:

We have owned this car for 4-1/2 years. We leased it for 3 years then purchased it after the lease ran out. My wife drives it daily to work and we use as the primary family car since I drive a truck. It has ran perfectly for 60,000 miles with no problems other than a power seat switch and steering damper which were covered by the warranty. The brakes have been no problem, in fact, I finally had the front pads replaced and rotors turned at 60,500 miles. The dealership told me the backs were still fine. The car still looks and drives as good as the day we bought it.

Weakness:

One complaint would be the Goodyear Eagle tires that came on it. They were worn out at 30,000 miles. Also the front axle boots (full time 4WD only) were cracked and had to be replaced at 60,000. Have not had any other problems

We have always wanted a Jeep and finally spent the money to get one. So far we have not been disappointed. If it continues to run as well as it has in the past we may keep it for many years to come. It looks better to us than the newer style and essentially has the same features.

My daughter and son-in-law have a Ford Explorer. The Jeep rides and handles much better. It is quieter and smoother and more comfortable. My other daughter and son-in-law have an Acura SHV which is very comparable, but does have more "trunk" space.

Strength:

Power is good for acceleration with the V8 engine.
Good exterior and interior design. Good stereo system with 10 CD capacity.

Weakness:

Poor air conditioning, rough ride, can not shut off outside air vent perminently, poor milage 13.5mile/gal in city, pro to leak oil, driver seat travel is not far enough for 6'person.

I was attracted to the exterior design of the grand chrokee jeep only. After use for two years, I do not think the car is worth its value.

Strength:

Power, reliability, off-road capability, on-road performance (at least in a straight line...), great gas mileage for a 5.2L V8 (17 city 24 hwy), wonderful for a 4x4 with solid axles.

Weakness:

Slightly cramped interior, pain in the butt to wash and wax and I hit my head on the overhead console when I'm offroad. First thing anybody with any inclination to go off road should do is get a full size spare tire, I don't care whether you just leave it in the garage and bungee cord it down in the back when you go camping. The temporary spare can KILL you off-road. Take the belt driven fan out, it doesn't work in stop and go traffic and the AC suffers - have it replaced with the two-speed electric unit from the 96-98 model, you gain horsepower and the AC is still cold at idle... no more 210 degree readings from the water temp either!

Traded the Discovery for my Jeep in 1997. Have put 30,000 miles/year on it since then. Never use any fluids except AMSOIL! I stick to the 4500 mile reminder on the computer and have never had a major problem in over 100,000 miles with this Jeep (142,000 total). I've read the reviews and I've heard the horror stories, I've even seen some up close, but 90% of the time, poor maintenance was the cause in the ones I know of first hand, and I'm lucky... my Jeep dealer is also the local Cadallic, Olds, BMW, Mercedes dealer and they have a stellar service department. Keeping up a full-time 4x4 on the frequent maintenance schedule is not cheap, but I don't mind it when it gives a return like this. I use my Jeep to tow a 19' camper with trailer brakes a couple of hours each way about once a month and it's also my daily driver. It has never broke down on me or stranded me, and that includes off-road in and through snow drifts deep as my waist on the way to Snowshoe to go skiing. I'm getting ready to replace my second set of Michelin LTX M/S's and I've gotten over 55,000 miles out of each set (may try the new Cross Terrain's). I've done a few upgrades, Mopar performance ECU, K&N FIPK Gen II, Doug Thorley headers and Gibson exhaust w/high-flow catalytic converter (a little loud), Edelbrock IAS Shocks, Stillen rotors and Ceramic pads and a sweet stereo system (a/d/s has no equal...), with Dynamat under everywhere it would fit. This Jeep has been driven through Hurricanes in Myrtle Beach, Blizzards in West Virginia, and Floods in North Carolina, it has never failed me yet. The V8 with upgrades will surprise most drivers (especially at a stop light in the rain, full-time 4wd can make a Mustang Cobra blush on wet pavement...) it will run 85-90 all day long and still get 20mpg. The ONLY problem I have had was with the power windows, the ground wire for the main control in the drivers door cracked or came loose somewhere up inside the unibody and I couldn't put any of the windows down. Stripped one inch of the ground wire behind the door panel, screwed it down to the door sub frame with a sheet metal screw while in the Holiday Inn parking lot and it has worked ever since.
If you need an all around reliable work-horse of a vehicle that can still get up and go, get a 93-95 model that has an accurate service history with the 5.2L V8 and QuadraTrak and you will never regret it. Our new X5 is quieter, faster and holds curves better than Pamela Lee, but it got stuck in the driveway to my brothers cabin in West Virginia (Clay mud) and I can't stand getting a vehicle that costs that much dirty any way. You can have my Jeep when you pry my cold dead fingers from around the steering wheel.

P.S. I would never buy ANY vehicle new from a dealer. Let someone else work the bugs out of it, look for a service history and buy the extended warranty...
