Strength:

Gas mileage for an SUV
Power for a 4 Cyl
Reliablity
Compact and easy to drive
Fits and goes anywhere
Great heater
Jeep always keeps its value

Weakness:

trouble going up mountains in Montana.
Don't drive for more than 16 hrs in a soft top. (Def. get both tops for options and locations.

If you want want luxury, go for a foreign car, but watch yourself and whats under the hood! The Wrangler is not going to "magically" get bigger after you test drive it! If its a soft top, its not going to sound like a hardtop when your driving. Hint Hint to those!!! I purchased a 1997 in 1999 w/ 27,000 miles on it. I am still driving it and it runs like new. NO REGRETS. You get what you see, no games and no gimicks. I have driven all over the country in this baby. Offroad, Onroad, West Virginia, Manhattan, Beach, Forest, Rivers, and Sidewalks. It has a standard comfort- you learn to deal with long rides- Consumers can't be babies. Typical repairs due to driving-(happens to any car- I don't care what they say). Top on top off- there is nothing else like it. I worry about no road Sun, Rain, or Snow and I HAD the SE 4-cylinder (can't imagine the power of the 6). The interior withstands all weather- and its simplicity and drain holes keep it easy to clean. For an SUV- you can't complain about gas mileage regardless of make or model- READ specfications before investing!!!! I haved moved using my jeep- remove the rear seat and there is plenty of room. I have pulled vehicles out of the snow and ditch twice my size. I may not leave jeep- they have the reliable engines- make sure to take care of them. 4WD capability surpasses AWD.

Model Reviewed: Wrangler X 2DR

Strength:

It is more stable, more room in the front where it matters. The interrior is great. The stereo rocks, free sattelite radio for a year and u can plug you MP3 into it, the windows are tinted so dark that u caqn not really tell if anyone is in it. The hardtop configures in several ways and is light. The interior offers a very relaxed and kicked back style. It is modern but still Jeep. I like the added curves here and there to the exterrior and they are minor enough that unless u are a hardcore Jeep owner they really are not that noticeable. I know this everywhere I go people want to check it out. The main thing is it is still a Jeep. I t is like a piece of clay that u can mold and wrok with to customize however u want to.

Weakness:

My only complaint is I wish Jeep would mount the spare tire about 2 inches higher so i can fold up my back rack. But as stated above I adapted with some bungee cords to hold the bike rack in the upright position by attaching the cord to the spare wheel and the frame of the rack. I bike to much to keep taking it on and off. Somebody start making aftermarket parts for these things. The only other complaint why change the bolt pattern to 5 on 5, I missed that meeting. Try and find some wheels right now, I ordered some and it is going to take 2 weeks to get them. Oh well, it is worth all of the above.

This is the 2007 model. It came with the new hardtop and soft top. I traded my 2004 Xterra for this. Gas mileage seems to be on par with what I was getting in my Nissan. I will not complain about the mileage, it is a Jeep. The new one is wider and longer. It rides better than my Xterra did and compared to the outdated motor I had in that thing this has plenty of power. It sits taller and is more comfortable inside. The one I bought has everything you can get except electric locks and power windows. I relly do not see the need in that for a Jeep. I did elect to get the automatic due to a shoulder injury that may require more surgey and I would not be able to shift. The Infiniti stereo rocks, it is better than the Rockford that was in my X. I have found driving this on the road to be very comfortable. It seems to take the rough roads a little better than my Xterra did.

I did like my Nissan but I was a little tourqed that right after I bought it Nissan totally redid the thing. I was impressed with the new ones except for the way they looked. They seemed to have gone more urban than the old body style like I had. I had driven Jeeps back in the day and loved them so I figured now was good time to go back to the roots. This is truly a off road vehicle, so comparing it the local soccer moms kiddie transport is not justice. Jeeps can be made to suit your personality with an abudance of aftermaket parts, and it seems no matter what someone does to one it looks pretty darn cool. It is a unique vehicle and there really is no other SUV on the market in this price range to compare it to. The new ones really are totally changed. Hardcores may find the new look a little hard to get used to. The debate about the new engine will go on. I found at highway speeds the RPMs stay down compared to the older ones. The engine seems fine to me. It accelerates well and runs very well on the road. I drove it today at speeds of 70 or so and it cruised like a champ. The new stabilty control and other gadgets may or may not make all that difference but keeping in mind how the government is making safer vehicles mandatory I give cudos to Jeep for redesigning an ICON and leaving it alone enough that it still says Jeep when you see it. I have heard people belly aching about to much plastic. Go to any car lot and look at all of the models there, they all seem like they were recycled with old coke bottles. The uspside if it breaks it should be easier and cheaper to replace. The added room behind the passenger seat is ample but not great compared to my Xterra, but then again it is a Jeep.

The bottom line is I bought this to get back in a Jeep. I do not carry about the cargo space or other options that other SUVs are hashing it out to make a dollar. I bought it for the freedom that Jeeps offer, for the abiltu to add any number of parts to it to make it my Jeep. It is like having a Harley, there is something about the freedom and adventure it brings you. If you ever had a Jeep or still have one you will not be disappointed with the new one. Styles are changing and Jeep is trying to compete in this ever growing market withou breaking our hearts. They did a good job on this model. They made it more road friendly and in the process created a very capable off road vehicle where it will shine the most and leave the others behind. They turn on a dime and can drive through the eye of a needle. Either u get or u don't. My Nissan was a capable off road vehicle to, but it does not hold a candle to this. At least Jeep took into consideration all of the loyal Jeep Freaks out there when they replotted the course of the Wrangler. I love this Jeep. I know compared to Nissan and Toyota relabilty may be a concern. I still see plenty of older Jeeps on the road and they seem to be doing fine. People alwya look at a Jeep whe u go by, deep down inside they all think to themselves, thats a pretty cool vehicle. Not every vehicle is suited for everything we do, but as Jeep owenrs we adapt and overcome and our Jeeps suit our needs, yeah there are times I say to myself I wish I had more room, so I just pile another piece of equipment on top of some more and get in and crank her up and hit the trail. If u are thinking about getting a Jeep go test drive one, you will know its for u when the big grin comes across ur face. Then you will be on your way to understanding ONLY IN A JEEP. Rock-on.

The old style Toyota FJ. Talking about messing up an ICON. If you are going to try and reinvent history at least make it seem like the ICON it once was. I test drove the new one, no way! The old one we had truly was the closet thing to Jeep out there and it rocked.

Fun

Weakness:

Gas hog
Unreliable (compared to anything Japanese)
Expensive to fix (lots of moving parts)
No cargo room

Well I bought a Jeep because I wanted something different (my previous car had been an Acura Integra), and it turned out to be a pretty huge mistake. Not six months after buying it, it needed over $2000 worth of work. The transfer case and the transmission both had to be rebuilt, and I had not used the vehicle hard at all. I'm guessing the previous owner had done some pretty stupid stuff with it, even though he said that he had never taken it off-road. Anyway, it's a really fun vehicle and perfect for the summertime and recreation, but it's just not reliable transportation, especially when compared to any Honda or Toyota products. Just realize what you're buying before you do it. Oh and one more thing, my mechanic (who is a personal friend of mine), said that the transfer case has chains in it instead of gears. That sounds suspiciously like 1940's Willys technology. Something to think about.

Strength:

Fun, fun, fun, there's no feeling like riding with the top down or 4-wheeling crawling up a dirt road.
Power, looks and being a Jeep lover

Weakness:

Soft top leaks
A/C knobs broke after 25,000 miles
Lots of bug splatter on windshield
All these weaknesses are minor compared to fun factor

I LOVE my Wrangler. I hear good and bad comments about Wranglers but have come to the conclusion that either you are hard core and love your Jeep or you have unrealistic ideas of what a Jeep is and you'll hate it. If you fall in to the catagory of hating it, do yourself and us hard core Jeep lovers a favor and buy an urban SUV with all the "bells and whistles.

Just a note: I have installed Goodyear Wrangler AT/S 30" tires, an AirRaid intake system and an Aero cat back exhaust (increase horse power by at least 15-20 horses) Also have installed a Mr Tuffy locking console, full size 30" spare, bike/ski rack, bra and Alpine stereo.

A/C leaks.

My Wrangler Sport was delivered on 8/21/06 I drove it 4 days and around 300 miles with A/C going. Went to drive it on 8/26/06 and found 2 inches of water on the floor, all the way back to the rear seat. It is a hard top. I called the dealer and sales man said this was a common problem with the A/C drain hose plugging up from dust. Maybe this happens in a few years but only 4 days?

Multi configuration removable canvas top. "Let's go anywhere/anytime" feel. Well placed instruments/controls. Easy to maintain and resonable to service ($).
Acessories to help dress it up abound!!

Weakness:

GAS MILEAGE!!! Man I forgot how the I-6 LOVES to drink fuel!! (Thank God I have another vehicle and a motorcycle).

Got a decent deal. Only had 5k on the odometer and came with a lift kit (installed). This is my 3rd Wrangler (1990&1998) Engine seems stronger. Cabin feels and sounds tighter. Expected wind noise @ 60mph and above. As always, handles like a JEEP and not a car/truck/suv. If your looking for a 4x4 with a soft ride, shop elsewhere, this is not your type of vehicle. This vehicle feels like it could go almost anywhere, (and just about will). Could use a few more interior appointments, but then again if it was too fancy, it wouldn't be a Jeep.

fun...ummmm...that's about it...This vehicle is good for the teenage kid...but it won't last...

Weakness:

Radiator was shot the second year and was replaced (no warrnaty..go figger), the pump was then defective (but was under warranty, which was good), now the battery died on me...too many problems with this car and the dealer/service was un-professional. It took too many times/appointments to resovle the issues. They (the dealer) were un-apologetic and unreliable (the JEEP)...USE EXTREME CAUTION...

My JEEP was a lot of fun. I had the soft top and the hard top and it was very convenient for the seasonal changes. Gas mileage was the downside and with today's gas prices...forget it...
