Strength:

Within the first mile of driving off the dealership lot, I knew I had made the best driving decision of my life. The TJ is awesome. Complete unlike any other automobile in the looks department. Handles great - a bit like a pick-up, but sturdier feeling. Chrysler has done a great job in adding some basic comforts to the interiors of Wranglers while still maintaining the utilitarian aspects (hose it out if you get to muddy!) I just love this Jeep. I don't ever want to drive another car of any type. I'm sold for life.

Weakness:

Nothing bad about it. I wish people would stop diminishing the Wrangler due to it's "cramped" rear seat and "low" gas mileage. It's the nature of the beast and I love it for those reasons too!

The most awesome, fun, and thrilling car I've ever owned. I love it.

Strength:

This is my third jeep and above all its the best.
-Its appearance
-Having round headlights back!
-The ease of lowering and raising the soft top.
-The much improved heater-NO ITS NOT COLD IN THE WINTER .
-The best off road suv from yhe factory.
-Holds its value well.
-The up graded interior.
-Tons of available upgrades.
-The 6cyl.
-The coil spring suspension gives it a much better ride.
-The jeep wave
-Jeep Jamborees.

Weakness:

-POOR GAS MILEAGE!!!
-Poor service from Chrysler.
-The side step ups. They tend to hold dirt, mud, snow, salt and slush.Switch to nerf bars.
-Lack of storage space. I removed the back seat.
-The front seats should be able to travel further back.It gets uncomfortable on long trips.
-My front seats squeaked for about 6 months then stopped.
-Seat belts are hard to latch because of their position next to the console.
Also the shoulder harness is uncomfortable for women even though its adjustable.
-The noise from the soft top gets pretty loud at about 70 plus mph.

Anyone who wants to escape the norms of everyday life should buy a jeep.
Its so much fun to drive and its easy to maintain.Do yourself a favor and buy the sport or the sahara the 6 cyl and other options are much better.
The ride is much better than previous years although its not much fun on long highway drives because one tends to get cramped.Don't skimp on the extras they make it nice.
Make sure you get the sound bar-you'll need it with the soft top. Also
get the 30 inch package it looks and performs better.
I had a few minor problems with my jeep that should have been taken care of much sooner if i didn't get the run around from the service dept.
All in all its a great all season vehicle. Join the fun.
One last note KEEP UP THE JEEP WAVE some of you out there are not- you know who you are.

Strength:

-Lively, reliable I6 engine
-Excellent turn radius (quicker than a cop pulling a u-turn after passing a donut shop)
-Easily customizable; not hard to individualize it
-Dirty? Pull the floor plugs and grab a hose!
-Excellent summer vehicle

Weakness:

-Stock suspension rides a little rough
-Wipers are fast + noisy
-Fuel consumption: I get 300 miles to the tank on a good week

If you're single and just need something for around town, this is it. Chances are you'll never use the back seat much -- take those 4 bolts out and use for a garage sofa. You now have plenty of room for groceries, gear, laundry -- even a dog or two.
If you think it sits a little low and rides rough, you can fix both problems with around $150 and a few hours of time. Jeep made the YJ's with a leaf spring system, which I'll take over those TJ coils any day of the week. Perform a leaf-over swap with upgraded shackles (keeping the stock leafs) and you've just raised your YJ a good 4"-5" and noticably improved the handling.
Naturally, the big draw is the soft top. From May to September, my top stays off. The doors are usually removed, too. It's just an attitude that goes with the season. "Nice Corvette rag top--but do the doors come off? Didn't think so." Throw a bikini on it for those scorching hot days. It won't get too cold in the winter...so long as you keep the heat on full bore.
It's amazing all the customizations you can do to these things. I've made both front and rear bumpers as well as matching nerf bars out of 2"x2" square steel. Everyone asks where I bought them -- I didn't. Just took 2 days of welding and some black gloss spray paint. Shops wanted how much?? About $500 all told; cost me a mere $75 in materials.
Expect a lot of looks if you've done some upgrading and you're cruising around town with the top off. Jeeps naturally draw attention out of seemingly nowhere. Of course, you'll acquire a tan this way much easier as well. And remember to acknowledge other Jeep drivers on the road--it's an unwritten creed which can be fun if you're not too ashamed to be driving a stocker.
If you're single, grab one. If you're engaged, maybe you should ask. If you're married, it's just going to be a "toy". If you have children, beg your buddies to borrow theirs once in a while.

Strength:

You just cannot beat this vehicle for its versatility and the keep getting it attitude. Its a convertable and with no doors its like no other for the ooutdoor experience.

Weakness:

I have just read about 30 other reviews and have to say alot of you should have hired a lawyer and hit the dealer with the lemon law. My jeep 60,000 miles has never been in the shop nor has left me stranded. Not once. My first jeep was a 1988 wrangler 4cyl and the biggest piece of problem one could ever ask for. Two months later I traded it in. Except the fact that there will be times when no one on the factory floor gives a dam. Don't keep repairing them, just get another one. Better example. Picked up a 1986 Volvo wagon for my wife, brand new off the floor. towed back to the dealer same day. In the next two months the car fell almost in pieces. Brough it back at this point and traded in for another one. 200,000 miles and runs like the day we got it.

Getting into my mid fifties now and at times I though about somthing more comfortable, but after reading these reviews I realize why I've driven one for the last ten yrs. Its a jeep thing period.

Versatility, Versatility, Versatility!!! Off road, Off road, Off road!!! where else can you get a stock convertable SUV with off road capabilities like this!!! like to customize? this is the vehicle for you!

Weakness:

less than desireable fuel economy (not too bad if you can keep your foot out of it.) too few ponys under the hood in the SE model. noisy soft top.

I currently own the '98 SE TJ, I am about two days away from upgrading to a 2001 sport TJ. I strongly recomend the 4.0L and now with dual tops and kick butt stereo (as far as stock stereos go) why would you even consider anything else. Just keep in mind, Wranglers are not invicible, but if you take proper care of it, it will give you a lifetime of unriveled enjoyment!

Model Reviewed: Jeep Wrangler Sahara

Strength:

Jeep offers simplistic, yet sturdy, multi-terrain capability in it's Wrangler model. For the price, you get the essentials, and not much more. But the essentials will get you through whatever you choose, from deep snow to rocky earth. The 4 Wheel Drive system is excellent even though it lacks the technology that higher-end SUV's offer. The Wrangler also is designed so that it could seemingly be dismantled with nothing more than a couple tools. All carpeting is removable, there are a number of drainage hole within the cab, and aftermarket magazines galore offer thousands of products which allow you to modify and personalize the Wrangler. The added convertibleness opens the vehicle up in the summer time, greatly improving the overall satisfaction of the vehicle. The soft-top take-down time is also greatly reduced compared to past years.

Weakness:

The strengths of the Wrangler make it very attractive compared to other similiarly priced SUV's. However, be certain to weigh the weaknesses that are present with this car. There is no perfect car, but the Wrangler has qualities that are evidently limiting after driving it for the first few months. First off, the ride quality, although improved over past models, still has room for more tweaking. Stiff suspension plaques the ride quality, seemingly parallel to a red Radio Flyer. Long trips are almost painful due to the ride and poor seats. Secondly, don't ever plan on taking a whole lot of luggage with you, it simply won't fit. Almost nil in trunk space, you'll find yourself leaving stuff behind. Dash ergonomics are simple and to the point, and that's about it. Poor air vent exhaust keeps the air pretty much at a standstill even on high. And thanks to the ride quality, you'll find yourself retightening screws frequently, including the door pull-handles, which on several occasions have simply fallen out. Quality Control at Jeep also keeps the Wrangler from maintaining a clean track record. On one occasion, I was stranded 600 miles away from home, in the middle of nowhere, due to a faulty fuel pump. On another occasion, Clutch and Transmission parts completely failed leaving me stranded again. All while under warranty.

The Jeep Wrangler is a fun vehicle, by all means. It offers off-road capabilities that other companies are jealous of. Plus, it's convertable. However, possible purchasers need to examine their lifestyles and compare it to what the Wrangler has to offer. If you need to constantly transport people or equipment, pass this vehicle up. But if not, and you are looking for a fun, low-cost SUV, then consider the Jeep Wrangler.

Model Reviewed: Sahara 4.0

Strength:

Fun to drive and a great experience to have. Great to have in the summer and fun to drive in the snow. Best out of the box off-road vehicle you can buy. Climbs hills well and has good articualtion due to the coil springs. Much better ride than the older wranglers and I love the Sahara Interior. Sporty two-tone seats and they are water-proof. Good power and solid gears. Very easy to accessorize and find parts.

Weakness:

Dome light has no brightness....very dark when courtesy lights are on. plastic side steps are sturdy and useful but scratch easy. Not the best on gas and not exactly comfortable to take on long trips. Interior door handle screws always loosen and I have to screw them in.

If you take care of these things they will last forever. So many people complain and trade them back in because they don't care of them. Its kinda funny because you can always find a lot of Wranglers in the news papers but I would never buy a used one because they probably didn't take care of it. If you are person who likes changes , excitement and adventures the wrangler is defintely for you. This thing has hardly no limits. You can add a suspension lift and you will never have limits to what you can do.I recommend the Sahara over the other models. It may cost little more but go ahead and spend the money because they come with better shocks and suspension components which give you better ride. Get a hard top to because that soft top flapping in the wind at highway speeds can get really annoying.

Since I've had my Wrangler I've added many accessories to Jeep. Icluding tube bumbers, performance exhaust, Jet Air-Intake kit, aluminum heads, rods, pistons etc. I've tested the performance on it and it can burn it up of the line. It light's up my 31x10.50's easy and I've tested it at 210 hp and 260 lbs torque which is alot for its size. It's actually pretty easy to add power because the engine is a easily workable Inline 6.

Strength:

Off road ability. Reliabilty. Fun fun fun. Small, nimble off road machine. Great at the beach, desert, mountains, wherever the pavement ends, especially. This is the original. Often imitated, never duplicated. SUV's have turned into luxurious, mom mobiles that couldn't crawl over a sidewalk if required. Not a problem with this vehicle.

Weakness:

Do not expect a polished jewel of comfortability, fit and finish, or a long distance family touring machine. This isn't really a weakness, so do your research before buying.
The windshield leaked from day one. Dealer fixed it in one visit, but I have to wonder how hard it could be to install a small, flat piece of glass. Suggest drug testing at the assembly line, since I've heard a few Wrangler owners with the same problem...

A great vehicle designed for a very narrow segment of the driving population. If off roading and fun are your main reasons for purchasing, you'll love it. I had the 4cyl model, which was slow, but around town acceleration was fine. I'd recommend the 4.0L 6cyl engine, for nice power. Off road it is untouchable. The aftermarket for Jeeps is huge! You can literally modify one anyway you can possibly think of. Crusing along with the top off, the doors removed, to the hum of the Mud Terrain tires(not stock), is an absolute blast...Once you start modifications you'll get bit by the Jeep bug...

Terrible gas milage. Breaks down frequently.

It's really not a realiable car. It breaks down frequently. This year alone I went to the Jeep Service six times. Their mechanics don't seem to know what they are doing and I went to three different places. It is a fun car to drive, but our warranty is ending soon so we are trading it in. If you are thinking of getting this car, be sure to get 6 cilinder engine and an extended warranty!!!!You will need it.
