Strength:

I love driving this vehicle in the city and on the Hwy. There is plenty of room, a surprise to me, for the driver and even two adults in the back folding seats. (two friends riding in the back could not get over the comfortable ride.) Looks great! Great power! This is not power machine for speed, it is power machine to get off road or to pull basic toys...jet skies. I had the 1999 Grand Cherokee, and love the wrangler a whole lot more.

Weakness:

On the hwy., testy with gust of wind, but need not feel unsafe. Gas, but that is with all cars. Prices of today, they should make more options standard. CD/radio should be removable, factory system is inviting theft!

I paid 20,000 flat after going to three Dealers and walking. You MUST stick to your guns people about a fair price. Start dealing with them from invoice, not the msrp...especially the msrp the window sticker. With the options on the jeep I purchased, 20K was fair for me and the dealer. One dealer refused to deal from the invoice price, saying "I am not going to give it to you, will wanting 23K" walk from these lying fools or you are the fool. I also think that that treatment you get from the sales dept. is the type of treatment you will get from all depts. Do not be afraid to get up and walk away, and do not stop when they are on your tail begging to come back to the table. They have shown their colors, so why deal with them. Especially with the internet option of finding and buying a car, the power is in your hands.

Strength:

-Strong, torquey engine
-Can't beat it with the top down
-Looks great
-Envious stares from other drivers

Weakness:

-Nooooo storage space
-Not so comfortable letting my young kids ride in the back, even in car seats
-Consumes gas at a truly obscene rate

I bought a Wrangler Sport with a soft top and hard doors and just about every option other than the hard top, automatic, cruise control and side steps. Paid about $20,500 before tax through a buying service. The car is absolutely great. The weaknesses mentioned above only matter if it's going to be your only vehicle (which I don't recommend unless your young, single and into serious off-roading). Bought the maintenance plan but not an extended warranty. I'm betting that by the time my warranty runs out I can make more in the market on the $900 the extended warranty would have cost me than the thing will cost me to fix at that point.

This is the car I've always wanted. Nothing anyone told me about it was going to dissuade me. If you are not similarly entrance, and don't have the means to buy this baby just for fun, it's probably not for you. But, man, are you missing out on something special.

If you do think you want one, shop only for price at various Jeep dealers. You will not find another car that compares to this one. If you thing other cars are better value, go buy one of them because you'll regret your choice if you buy the Jeep. It is the most spartan, unluxurious, basic car you can get for over $20k. If it weren't a Jeep, it wouldn't be worth it even if you were Bill Gates. It is a Jeep, however, and for some of us that's all it takes. If you think we're idiots, go buy a Grand Vitara and we'll try not to laugh at you too visibly at the next stop light. Good Luck.

Strength:

-IT'S A JEEP!
-Superior off-road performance.
-Driving with the top off erases the trouble of the day.
-Made in the USA

Weakness:

-POOR gas mileage with the 4.0L 6 Cylinder.
-The Rancho suspension provides a rough ride on poor quality streets.
-Sudden rain showers with the top off
-Hard top removal and istallation is difficult.

My only regret is that I didn't buy a Jeep earlier in life. There are numerous aftermarket accessories available. If you are looking for a comfortable ride, great gas mileage, economy, or a roomy interior, this is not the vehicle for you. If you are looking for excellent off-road performance, wind in your hair, and the sheer pleasure of driving, then it IS the vehicle for YOU. The ride is rough, the gas mileage is HORRIBLE, and you can't hear the radio above 30MPH with the top off...but who cares? After all, it's a JEEP! No one buys a Jeep for those reasons. I would strongly discourage a hard top, unless you live where it gets really cold. It's difficult to remove and install, and takes up a lot of space in the garage. It is a handful to drive, as are most 4 wheel drive vehicles, so don't get lax behind the wheel.

Strength:

Rugged 4x4. Looks amazing. Never got stuck. Cant beat no top no doors feel.
High resale value.

Weakness:

Treat it like a baby....... But its built poorly. Nasty paint job. Paint chips and rust too common on hinges. Water leaks in the interior. Engine problems (rough idle, throttle body buildup, oil leaks. Many other little problems also. Very poor service (Chrysler/Jeep).

I would not recommend it if you do not have plenty of time to maintain it. This vechicle requires more commitment than most others due to it;s lack of craftsmansip. It can become a headache at times. Expect a lot of hours to keep it beautiful. Make sure to buy extended warranty!!!!! if u will keep it longer. Check paint job on the Jeep before buying (hinges, door frame) most likely there will be rust already.

*Awsome 4X4 in mud, snow, bush - whatever!
*Looks cool
*A whole lotta fun if your into spontaneous off-road adventures
*

Weakness:

Where do I start?
*Oil leaks
*Electrical problems
*Hard starts in -10 weather!
*Interior door cracked in cold weather
*Too tame - not rugged anymore- urbanized!
*Relatively poor service from Chrysler dealership where I bought it - but have been lucky to find another Chrysler dealership who gives me pleasant warrany service - and alot of it!
*Steering problems - thunking noise and sensation in steering wheel - dealership still trying to figure it out - sometimes I think they don't believe me because I'm a girl. Oh well - I'll just keep bringing it back...
*I have a four Cylinder - so gas is reasonable but could be better
*Gutless on highway when passing - or TRYING to pass..
*Overall: as much as I love my Jeep - I hate it due to poor quality parts
*CRAMPED!

Think I paid too much for the poor quality. Will likely be paying through my nose when warranty is up. BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY!! Will not buy another DOMESTIC vehicle again. Anybody want to buy my Jeep?
*Do not buy as only vehicle
*Do not buy if you plan on having a family
*DO BUY if you have money, are single or a perma couple with no kids
*Do buy if you just HAFTA off road
*Do buy if you are mechanically inclined and can do your own repairs
*Recommend you buy an older Jeep (before new design) save $$$

Strength:

What's not to like? Looks great, can't beat the fun with the top down, goes anywhere offroad - I've been in mud, 25 inches of snow, you name it. 97000 miles in 4 years and I've only replaced the converter (from being offroad) and the muffler needs replaced. It handles amazingly well, given the height and 31 inch tires I added. I also like the fact that you can do *anything* to them - take the doors off (left hand threads, boys and girls), fold down the windshield, rip out the carpet, drive anywhere.

Weakness:

Poor response driving on the freeways of Atlanta. You're lucky to pull 70 going up a small incline. Don't try anything over 65 with the air on - it'll overheat and you don't accelerate. The top leaks in a heavy rain, but that's what the drain plugs are for! Gas mileage leaves a little to be desired, even in a 4-cyl.

For $14500, I don't think I could have made a better choice in a 4x4. Sure, you don't have a trunk or bed to stash anything in, but that's not what a Jeep is for. I've driven this thing in snow, rivers, muddy logging sites, landfills, etc. and have never gotten stuck. Besides the converter, which I killed offroad, the only repair it needs after 97K is a new muffler. If having a fast vehicle doesn't matter, this is a great choice. Drive one with the top down on a summer day and you'll be hooked!

Personally, I've had no better luck with the ladies, people always tell me, a car doesn't make you cool, well, I have a Jeep (not a car) and obviously they've never owned one! ;) :) I have the conversion from soft to hard top and it doesn't get better, soft top/no top for camping, hard top for the winter. 4by4 at its best, go ahead, ask somebody thats been up in the mountains, they'll tell ya the performance is unbeatable. If you don't have one, you either haven't been bit by the famous "Jeep Bug" or you don't like them, you either love them or hate them, its kinda wierd like that with the jeeps. Oh, ya, did I mention the girl factor... ;)

Weakness:

Noisy soft top, what can you do? Hopefully you don't think its going to be quiet. Gas milage, especially with inflating gas prices, its kind of a bit*h on the gas.

Paid 18950 for 1998 Jeep Sahara, very good deal, don't know how i got away with it!!! They retail for like 22000. I would deff. reccomend it, I'm a resident of Colorado you need 4by4 out here, if you don't have a 4by4 in the family get a jeep. You'll need one in any kind of extreme weather condition. They kick a*s. Oh, ya, the girl factor, don't want to leave that out, girls come flying out of nowhere just to look and it doesn't hurt to be sitting in one. :)

It was a great conversation peace. It was very fast. Just imagine a little 2d car with a 297 hp. V8. I had lots of fun in that car let me tell you. But for some odd reason I got bit by the Jeep bug one day and I just had to have one. So I traded it in for my little 4 banging Jeep Wrangler. And I haven't thought twice about it. I now have a T.V. and a Playstation in mine for when I'm waiting for my girl friend to finish getting ready:)

Strength:

Looks(nothing else like it), fun factor(I've never had a vehicle that would put a smile on your face so easily!), convertible top, excellent off-road ability right out of the box, decent fuel mileage for four wheeler, reliable, solid engineering.

Weakness:

HOT! Mine has a black soft top and is brutal in the sun! Definitely opt for the A/C! Low gearing has it's drawbacks on the highway, I turn 3k rpm @ 70mph(great on the trail though!)

I bought mine used @ 8k miles and 8 months old. I gave around 15k for it. I thought that it was reasonably priced for a four wheel drive convertible with the curb appeal that it offers! I would recommend it to anyone who understands about Jeeps. While it doesn't have the decorum of your average Honda, or Isuzu it is definitely a blast to own and drive! The statement that says "It's a Jeep thing" pretty well sums it up! If you understand the statment you'll love the TJ...if not ...you won't! ;) I'd also like to address the statments of other posters about fuel mileage, and lack of power with the 4 cyl engine. First off I'd like to say that I've been pleasantly surprised with the fuel mileage of my Jeep. My Tj with the 2.5/5spd gets an average of 20mpg with a best of 23, and a worst of 16. I think that's great for a four wheel drive vehicle with the aerodynamics of a concrete block! As for power; I was told numerous times not to get the 4 cyl because it would be "woefully underpowered", and "it sucks", "no power" ...etc...etc... I find that it has gobs of usable "tractor torque" down low on the Rpm gauge, and is very peppy and fun to drive, especially with the 5 speed and 4:10 gearing. While it is no race car, it has no trouble keeping up with traffic at any speed. I am in no way disappointed in this combination!

-Uhh it's a Jeep, no questions asked!
-Totally whip-a$$ 4 wheel drive
-looks awesome
-top down ride is most of you can have in ANY vehicle
-WOMAN MAGNET:Sex Appeal :P
-Tank Like
-It just "THE" vehicle to own!

Weakness:

-4 Cylinder (what I have) seems to be slightly underpowered, but still good. Doesn't really matter when in lowest gears or in bad conditions. Could use some more Horses though.
-Get AC even with a soft top, top off is best ride but when it's muggy and raining you gotta have AC cause you can't put windowns down.
-Windshield is flat and takes rocks like an American fighter over Vietnam
-Manual transmission is kinda rough and synchros seem to go out sometimes.
-plastic windows can scratch easily, have to be careful
-ride is bumpy to new owners or passengers
-top takes a while to take off/put on

12,000 used (was in mint condition, could not pass up)
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS VEHICLE TO ANYONE WHO IS NOT A BABY AND WANTS A REAL
VEHICLE THAT CAN PERFORM!!! IT'S GREAT I LOVE IT!
