Strength:

A very quiet and smooth ride. Interior is comfortable and elegant. The exterior look is distinctive and sporty. Quite simply this is a great car!

Weakness:

It is a car... Do not buy the RX300 as a SUV. I mean really when are you going to take a $40K vehicle muddin'? I do agree with a previous writer that the 6-disc CD changer although a nice feature... Can be inconvenient if you just want to pop in your latest CD.

A very satisfying puchase! Customer service / loyalty is second to none. This vehicle has been exactly what I expected... Luxurious, comfortable, quiet, and classy.

While comparison shopping for a SUV, I test drove approximately 10 others on the market. The Infinity was probably the closest in comparison, but Lexus provides a much smoother ride.

gas mileage, trunk space too small

(1999 Model) - If you are in the market for an on-road SUV, well worth considering.

Strength:

It is a Toyota. dependable, good resale, built well....

Weakness:

It is a Toyota...I paid for a LEXUS, should not be rattling, shaking, or having minor problems after a year.

I like the vehicle, HOWEVER, at the same time I was looking at an MDX and MB and now wish I chose otherwise. The RX 300 does the job, but it does feel like a Toyota. I have friends with the MDX and they love the ride, look, and feel of the vehicle. I, on the otherhand, am just mildly pleased with the RX. The price difference on the MDX is worth it on the upside, the Highlander is also a much better value on the lower side. This car is more appropriate if it had more standard options...heated seats, memory, better radio, etc. or it should be priced about 3-4K less than it is to justify value.

Going to buy my car tomorrow. The preice we agreed on was $40,000(including tax and all other things) without the navigation system but pretty much everything else, including the protector bar in the front, back and side. I believe it is the newest (silversport) model for the RX. Is this a good deal? Pleas advised.

Strength:

Very quiet ride, Lexus quality, free cash washes at the dealer. Free loaner available too - but we haven't had to use that, since no problems with the car.

Weakness:

CD changer inconvenient as others have posted. I like the single CD insert design better.
The radio buttons are awkward to use to change stations (non-Nav model)
No individual map lights - didn't notice this during the test drive.
Turning radius is poor - it's actually longer than our Toyota Sienna that we traded in.

We took delivery on 1/2/01 and overall very nice and smooth SUV. The seats are very comfortable - they don't get hot in the Texas summers (we have the saddle interior)! The RX is extremely quiet - anyone that rides in it comments on how quiet it is.
Overall we are quite pleased with the RX and almost bought another one, but will probably get the MDX for the room and user-friendly dash.

Similar Products Used:

MDX - we almost bought the MDX in January, but wife didn't like the exterior. We now are getting ready to trade our 99 accord and will get the MDX - she has the RX and quite honestly, she hates the RX CD player & radio buttons. THe MDX is more user friendly. I looked at Highlander - don't bother - RX is much better for almost same $$.

Strength:

Cheap for the luxury SUV market but there is a very good reason for that.

Weakness:

mercedes price with yugo quality and service. Its really a toyota. In case some of you haven't checked recently thats becoming a bad word. Build quality is low. Starts to show drastically after miliage accumulates. Suspension squeeks and has exessive play, interior component rattles etc.

I purchased the rx300 over a year ago. From day one ive used the rx for business travel and have logged over 40,000 miles on it. I have maintained it religously. Even use syntheic fluids where ever possible. The engine and mechanical parts of the rx have been very reliable..... typical toyota engine quality. Only problem with that is it sounds like one as well. (Not a good thing)

Heres a few tests for those of you that have one. Drive up to and beside a building wall,(about a foot or two away) stop and open your window. You should hear the excessive ticking of the engine very very loud and clear. (Not smooth at all)

Drive down a bumpy road at just slightly over the speed limit. If you have your windows closed you will start to hear the squeeks of the glove compartment and dash.

Here's another test. Drive down that same road at 3 mph with the windows open. Unless you have complained to the dealer repeatedly, you will hear the metalic rattle of the factory installed cheapo brake pads bouncing around in the calipers of your four wheel discs. This is a known issue. The policy is that only those that complain will get it fixed (common among most dealers I have heard of).... a little pathetic considering the price of the vehicle. I think they should be calling the owners about getting this done proactively...

As you may have guessed, I have rated this vehicle badly. Its really not that bad of a car but it really isn't a world class luxury vehicle.... you can't expect a true luxury vehicle from a company that aspires to eventually be as quality consious as chrysler ;) (Theyve picked the wrong target for those of you that haven't driven a chrysler lately).

A rose by any other name is still a rose...... This isn't a rose but certainly stinks.

Model Reviewed: RX300 Silversport

Strength:

This is clearly the best looking SUV on the road. My Silversport edition has awesome suspension and the ride is incredibly luxurious while maintianing a sporty outlook (if the Silversport edition wasn't available, my choice would have been that much more difficult. The design of the front grille is terrific and the brushed aluminum interior look instead of the wood trim is classy). Get lots of compliments on the looks, handling and particularly the ease of getting in/out of the car. Great headlights. Immaculate service so far from the dealership - buying experience was a dream.

Weakness:

Could have used a little more power (our other car is a Maxima which has identical power specs - V6, 222 hp - but feels considerably more powerful). I'll join the club - ergonomics of the CD player are atrocious, but the sound quality is superb. Audio controls on the steering wheel would have been sweet.

Definition of a luxury SUV - encompasses all qualities you would expect, and then some. The smooth ride/great looks mean I look forward to driving it. Real pleasure. Consider the Silversport edition if you can - a hidden gem.

Ride was better than X5 and MDX. X5 felt more aggressive - I mean that in a good way, but 20% more money.
