Strength:

Comfortable ride, predictable handling, smooth drive train. Flexible service - oil change and routine service every 10K or so.

Weakness:

Electrical, trim, dealer service. Repeated problems with same parts suggests several design flaws.

Dreadful experience. Frequent and repeated problems with door locks, remote lock/unlock, alarm, and electrical system. Replaced entire instrument panel. In shop more than a dozen times for warranty repairs in 21 months. Often dealer(s) did not properly make repair the first time necessitating repeated visits and prolonged periods with loaner car. The only thing I'm confident about this vehicle is that there will be another problem soon! I don't have the time to continue dealing with it, but waited too long to take advantage of lemon laws. Sold it back to a dealer, who was supported by MBUSA, who paid a bit less than blue book retail. An expensive lesson - don't get to like your car too much! Recommend looking at Lexus or BMW competitors.

Strength:

Great pick-up. Comfortable seats. Babe magnet.

Weakness:

Too many to list, but many of the options such as mud flaps, should be standard. There is a fog light switch, but the lights are at least $95 each, plus the cost of purchasing a front grill guard mount. Gas mileage is very poor 14/17 if you are lucky. Headliner has glue that leaks through. (A problem SINCE 1998), as does my new one. The vehicle has to be gutted to replace it. I am told there is a nation wide shortage of factory qualified service technicians, and that means a long wait to get it into the shops. The rear cargo area is not very useful without optional storage racks. The rear seats are very difficult to put down, and the headrests must be removed before doing it. The onboard (GPS) help is not really free for the first year. You have some free minutes, but then you pay. It is not even activated until you give your credit card up front first.

The Truck is a pleasure to drive. The quality control is poor. The gas mileage is a lie. It is at best 14/17mpg. Great pick-up. Comfortable seats. If I had to buy the truck again I would do it differently. The dealer sells the basic model for $35K & says you can add options after you buy the basic version. Yea, but at 40% more than is listed on the mbusa web site! Get them on before you buy the ML320. I would have purchased the ML430 if I had to do it over again. By the time I get all of the options I want the price is similar.

Strength:

This truck gets sooooooo much attention. It is a confortable ride and has a good feeling with pick-up and agility.

Weakness:

You must adjust the climate control and steering wheel by hand; and the headlights must also be hand activated. The salespeople are rude and stupid, frankly. The brake pedal feel is soggy, and the electronics do strange things sometimes. Oh, yeah, and the sunroof did get a leak once, but I haven't had a problem since it was fixed.

This SUV definitely isn't the very greatest on the market, I was aware of this even before I bought mine. But there was just something about it that was just irresistable to me. I must say, despite having ongoing problems from time to time that shouldn't come from a Mercedes, I still find this truck to be worth the hassle, it is just such a nice ride. Buy one used at around 25,00 if you can't afford a new one, that is what I wish I would have done. The owners get rid of them early with low miles and you can save around 20,000 and all you lose is the new car smell. This is a really nice Mercedes, don't be fooled by those who say their problems are really THAT bad. If you want problem free luxury, I suggest the Acura MDX, my girlfriend has one and it is about the most luxury you can get while keeping all the reliability as well, but it just doen't have the classiness the M-class does in my opinion. The M-Class is the best SUV.

Strength:

Mileage- I've averaged close to 20mpg. Ride- smooth. Not bad offroad- I've traveled off to some pretty adverturous fishing spots on Au Sable River with no problem. Good in snow. Acceleration plenty adequate for a six. Maintenance is cheap- only oil changes until 1ooK.

Weakness:

Rear seats are ridiculously hard to get up and down. AM radio has never been good and has been out of condition for over three weeks now, has been to the dealer at least 4 times to correct, and it's STILL not working. Only 1 speed on intermettent wipers- pretty cheap.

This is an update. I've had the auto for 2 years and have grossed 65000 miles so far. As my lease is for 75000 , i'm starting to think about a new vehicle soon. Overall impression is good.

Strength:

-Quality: Never had 1 problem with my truck in 2 years and 36K miles.
-Drivetrain: Smooth, powerful, bulletproof. Truck slips into low range with ease every time.
-Interior design: One of the best designs on the SUV market. Much more pleasing to the eye than any American interiors or Japanese(my opinion).
-Sound system: My updraded system is the best OEM sound system I have ever heard.
-Comfort: I've driven several 6+hour trips and have always felt comfortable.
-AC: I've heard that this was a problem, but let me tell you this. I drove through Death Valley in temperatures of 110-116 and the interior stayed cold! I know that when the twin fan fuse blows, that the AC unit is not as efficient, but I have no complaints. In fact, during my trip in Death Valley we camped on the floor, with the temperture at 103 all night. We slept in the car all night with the AC on THE ENTIRE NIGHT. We actually had to shut it off because it was too cold. The truck never over heating or stressed in any way.

Weakness:

-No rear AC vents in the 2000 model.
-Interior plastics look like they might have faded slightly after 2 years.
-No full size spare.
-Needs more ground clearance.
-Service will be very expensive, once warrant expire.

I'm shocked at some of the reviews I've been reading on this truck. If these are all REAL reviews, I'd say Mercedes has a problem. The reason why I question the authenticity of some of these reviews is because I've never had a problem. And I abuse my truck. I do believe that people had problems, but when someone gets upset and they have an anonimous means of getting back at someone or something, it's easy to embelish facts or half truths. I've had my ML for 2 years now. With about 36K miles on it. I've also probably used my truck off-roading more than any one else. 2 trips through death valley, 1 through Stanislous Forest, a dozen at Hollister Hills SVRA. My truck has the scrapes and scares to prove it. I even have plenty of pictures, which I can share. Overall, my impression is very favorable. The truck drives smoothly, the drivetrain is bulletproof and smooth and the truck is extremly comfortable. It's off-roading capabilities are also very good. It's limited by ground clearance more than anything else. That's why I installed larger tires, 265/75/16. Which gained me an etra inch of ground clearance. Which made a big difference.

Strength:

I cant think of any right now im jaded by the whole experience

Weakness:

poor build quality,poor dealership experience

this truck has been back to the dealer 6 times and has been towed in twice in the last two weeks for different problems. This truck is unreliable. You want problems, broken clove box, glue on windowns every time you roll them up,miss aligned bumper,SRS air bag malfuction, fuel pump failure,CD player replacment, and this is the best,A teaspoon of coffe spilled on the center console stoped this rugged SUV in its tracks, the tranmission would not work.I forgot to close my sunroof in my ford explorer and it rained all nite, except for soggy seats it ran fine. The dealership experience was not at all what I expected from mercedes.
