Strength:

Great handling.

Weakness:

No accessories would work unless the engine was running, which also means no radio.

Traveling mechanical engineer. Rented a new 2009 Nissan Murano, on July 11-2008, after 5 days of city driving of a total of 153 miles, of which 60 of those miles were highway, all flat terrain, 85 Noctane gas, always slow acceleration from a stop position, my mpg was only 17.4. Nice handling, windows have poor visibility for both right and left blindspots. I had a strange pod-like key, inserted in a hole in the dashboard, and I had to press the brake while pushing a button on the dashboard to start engine. Stopping the engine was by pressing the same button. When the pod-like key was inserted (with no engine running) no accessories would work. I liked the radio show I was listening to, but when I stopped the engine, the radio went dead, so I had to run the engine to hear the radio while I sat and waited for my passenger to come back in the car.

Strength:

strong and high

Weakness:

engine failure and engine sludge for no reason
defective engines

I leased this SUV in April of 2004
with a maturity date of 4-2008 .The car would turn itself off for no reason.I did not reported because I thought it was a battery problem. Changed the battery twice.
Later we found out there was a recall for the alternator. We took care of it.
During the course of the lease my car was serviced with a Certified Mechanic and all the maintenance was done properly and on time.
Now the car has engine sludge and Maroone Nissan is asking for me to change the engine.By the way the car has only 45000 the warranty should cover this to 48000 miles. The dealership and their warranty dept says that I had poor maintance on the car, because after their review of my receipts dated about every three months or less the receipts HAD NO MILIAGE on them.Mind you the car was serviced every 3,000. miles and not 7500 like the warranty book says.
I now have to turn the car in and they are wanting me to pay $10,000.for the reapir or else.
I would not buy or lease ever again for Maroone Nissan.
There service is the worse and they rip people off. BUYER BE AWARE
The sales people will tell you anything to sell a car.Nissan's policy is to try to get away from honoring their WARRANTY.
I have the proof and will use it against them.
I will keep checking this site for comments during the course of my suit.
Please let me know if you have a similar problem.

Strength:

great at first...buyer beware
CVT Transmission was the smoothest I have ever drove, until if failed

Weakness:

Worst car I've ever owned...A dodge Neon used to hold this title. It was a low end vehicle so you can't expect much. The Murano has a high end pricetag with crap technology. Could buy a new lowend car for the price of replacing Nissan's faulty transmission. Murano buyers will all love the car at first but when the car reaches higher miles that transmission will fail like so many others who are experiencing that now

I've noticed the early posts everyone loved the car...now that they are getting older and breaking down the reviews have changed.

I used to always buy Nissan's, until now...the Murano was awesome at first and for a 2 year old car started having silly things go wrong with it. Then just past warranty the transfer case/transmission went. Common problem that is starting to arise that Nissan is ignoring, yet their techs explain it well as the trasfer case can't handle the torque and they crack. When it goes Nissan upgrades the parts with a newer design to help the problem...after you spend between $4500 and $9000. They acknowledge they have problems and will correct it with upgraded parts, but you have to pay for their mistake...no recall.

A nice smooth and high ride. A great highway cruiser.Have driven it south 3 times and love it except the high cost of operations.

Weakness:

Very poor gas milage, city about 12mpg highway best at 21 mpg.

I love this car but have had the wiper blades replaced twice and they still do nor always wipe clean in light rain.
A very solid feel with a nice wide stance. I put 20 inch rims on it to improve the looks.

The advance design of this SUV is out past most other manufacturer, it is still the best shape after five years on the road.

Weakness:

I found there are area should be improved in mechanical. I have the noise since 60,000km from the engine, when the car starts in low speed, it makes wee wee noise, and it is bug me.

Almost everything but engine/powertrain/CVT above all

Weakness:

Accelaration a bit too soft but that's a matter of temperament. Stereo is also a bit oudated

Well, I've read some of the reviews and I quite surprised with the discrepancy of opinions. Murano is a great car. Does not pretend anytrhing more than it is. Reliability issues that are expressed in here are mostly due to the fact that you guys you are buying Murano's for the American market. I bought mine targeted at European consumer (tougher standards, higher technical benchmark,...) For example - different brakes quality, better assembling, less power - mor lb's per rpm, etc..
I enjoy this car as it offers what one may expect - SUV/crossover feeling, high ride but no offroad lag. It's fast, smooth and comfortable. I love everything about this car - so do my friends using them in Europe.
Again, they also see the difference between the US imported ones and European (maybe the answer is within the price - in Europe average cost is 60K USDollars..)

Needed something I could tolerate on a daily basis that could tow motorcycles. Chose this over the FX-35/FX-45 because of the better gas mileage.

I love this car, I'm averaging 20.5 mpg between city/hwy and it tows my motorcycles no problem. Its plenty roomy for me and all my tall friends plus gear when towing.

Wish the AC and stereo were not integrated so that I could customize the dash. Other than that, great vehicle.

Strength:

NONE - DO NOT PURCHASE

Weakness:

Delays in proper acceleration. Mechanical problems that the Nissan team can not correct.

I purchased the Murano and loved it until it started to fail as a reliable vehicle. Before 20,000 miles I experienced a grinding sensation in the use of the gas peddle for acceleration and a steady vibration sound in the vehicle. Nissan tried to fix the problem several times and could not truly pinpoint the problem. After multiple tries and disappointments, I made the mistake of trading it for a 2007. That review is in here also. The 2007 Murano SL has less than 10,000 miles and the power steering is failing intermittenly. I am afraid that it will fail in an intersection causing an accident. I recommend that NO ONE buy a Murano. I am currently working with Nissan for a third time at this point to correct the problem.

Strength:

Nice drive. Smooth acceleration. Power.

Weakness:

Reliability. Road noise. Poor air conditioning.

Nissan have a problem with the CVT that results in a lag time of 2-3 seconds before the car accelerates after the gas pedal is depressed. This problem started happening at about 40K miles for me on hot days in traffic. Others are reporting the same problem in the older Muranos however Nissan has not made any announcement about it. The problem is in a pressure sensor, however fixing it requires a major transmission overhaul or replacement.

This is a very dangerous fault which I hope Nissan will speak to soon, preferably with a recall on the impacted model years.

In addition I had my car die on me twice in the first 18 months because of alternator problems that eventually resulted in a recall.

I would not recommend buying a Murano unless Nissan clarify the CVT problem.
