Strength:

Great quality leather, very responsive turning and acceleration. A nice stereo by Bose and maintenance can be checked in the monitor in the dashboard.

Weakness:

the black leather is hot in the summer, and at night get used to the slightly uneven lights

We've had two Muranos not because of an accident but because it is a great vehicle. If you like responsive driving and great acceleration this is the suv for you. We have sirius in the dash monitor and we love it.

A great car that doesn't have a proven track record of dependably, I wish I had my old Pathfinder back.

Weakness:

Too many recalls, I have now gotten to the point where I want to ditch this car. What a shame, I expected better from Nissan. This is my 7th Nissan purchase and perhaps my last. I understand Honda makes a nice vehicle too? Hmm

At first a great car that's already beginning to sour after 19,000 miles. I have had 4 recalls and I believe the 5th isn't far away according to the national news that I watched. The car handles great, has enough pickup during acceleration and the fuel mileage is better than my Pathfinder, but my dealership (Bales in Jeffersonville, IN) just replaced my gas tank. How often to you hear of a gas tank being replaced? My now I can't get an accurate reading on my gas gauge, so I can't rely on the gas gauge of a 2 year old Nissan? I will have to now return the car for at least a 3rd attempt of correcting a dealership error. I'm beyond pissed and expected better from a Nissan product and a Nissan dealership.

Luxury ride and interior. Navigation and XM excellent. Leather seats with the dual controls.
Great gas mileage.
Great on trips very comfortable ride.
Lots of room in back seat for children or adults that are tall.

Weakness:

Bose radio has to be replaced because of skipping with the CD's.
Headlight replaced because of moisture.
A/C vents could be placed better.
No temperature sensor for the heated seats, doesn't seem to heat very high.
The vehicle seems to take alittle more time cooling off in hotter months due to the big windsheild.
No vehicle is perfect.

Had 1998 Pathfinder. Test drove both 2005 Pathfinder and Murano. No comparison on Luxury. I love the Murano. Have gotten attached to the GPS and XM Radio. Gas mileage is better than my old Pathfinder. Just a very good buy all around.

seats comfortable- pretty outside--not much to me now

Weakness:

They are not willing to give me a new warranty on the engine, they do not fix the problems-mouth service only-they never hear what you do and make you feel like you a stupid

We loved this car at first then the problems began it would gear down and would not accelerate ( was told to turn it off and let it reset the sensors) the rear brakes squeak loudly when backing on an incline and now on flat ground then the car had a hose break and the car overheated breaking down on the highway some sensor was replaced and sill it overheated and the head gaskets were warped and the whole engine had to be replaced--still was overheating and some intake area was fixed--now the car sounds rough and my gas mileage went from 19.9 to 16.9 was told a new engine need to be broke in ( was the first one not new???) the brakes still squeak and they put my sterring wheel back on crooked but claimed they had not touched it when replacing my engine????? I used to love my smooth quite ride of my car until all of this has happened I just wish I had what I bought instead of this piece of junk--my mom has one same year and she loves her's still---it has bad blind spots it the back and by th big mirrors up front

GAS MILEAGE!!!!! My husband is currently at another dealer looking to trade in the Murano for a Pilot, Odyssey, or Sienna. My MPG has never been more than 16.7. I complained to the dealer originally and they said it's just what it is. I call it false advertising!!! We are trading in the Murano for the sucky gas mileage and we decided we'd get a 3 row vehicle. Fix your gas mileage Nissan and maybe more people would hold on the Murano. Breaks my heart to see it go but I'm sick of the mileage.

I love my Murano. I have 2 kids and they love it too. Fun to drive, looks great, leather is beautiful. My husband finds it very sporty. The radio is incredible.

Strength:

Sleek style for low cost, smooth ride and easy to handle. Interior is roomy and comfortable.

Weakness:

Has a bad blind spot when moving towards the right lane with only the little window in that area.

I just bought my murano a week ago and have decided that it is the best thing i could have done. I traded in my nissan xterra, which i have no complaints about, but cannot be compared to the murano.

Interior- From the second i got in the seats are plush and comfortable. Alot of room is given for storage and knick knacks. The dash is set up nicely and easy to use without distracting from driving. The easy to use handles in the back to make the seats go down is an added convienent feature. It may look small but ample enough room for passengers and storage.

Exterior-Sleek design to compage with more expensive infiniti model. I have had many people mistake it for one which is fine with me but really does look nice coming down the road. Easy push button to open back hatch and do not have to slam it to make it close.

Drive- Well going from 177hp to 245hp makes me realize why more is better. The ride is smooth and makes me feel like i am driving an expensive sports car. My dad has a mercedes S600 and he drove mine and commented on how nice it drives. That takes alot for him to do. But really, now i know why people spend more to have more horsepower, it is wonderful. The turning on it is smooth and the brakes work well even in heavy rain of louisiana.

Loads of interior room.
Lots of storage.
Stereo sounds great when it works.

Instruments are easily readable.
Smooth ride

Weakness:

Gas cap wont open consistently.
Window rattles.
Too many recalls.
Air vents do not adjust where needed.
Cup holders in the back are flimsy and break easily.
Poor visibility in spots

I looked at SUV's for over 2 months before deciding on te Murano. I didn't really like the way it was styled on the outside, but I eventually got use to it.

The car drives nice and handles well. The interior is as nice as any luxury vehicle. There is a lot of room for storage.

I really love this car, but I have had a lot of bad luck and problems with my murano.
The Bose stereo system had problems and quit playing on the drivers side. This problem occured three times within six months. The first two times it was fixed at Nissan's cost, but the last time I had to pay a deductible for my extended warranty. I also had front axle problems within 3 months of purchase, and the whole front axle had to be replaced.I have had ongoing problems with the gas cap not opening, this is a tremendous pain when low on gas. I have taken it in numerous times, to be told nothing was wrong, but when my car was returned to me the gas cap suddenly worked! I have a window rattle and I was told that rattles were not covered under the extended warranty. The rubber on the sunroof is starting to buckle and I was told Nissan does not cover rubber gaskets. I have also had my car stop completely and I have had to have it towed. Nissan finally found the problem, when the alternator recall came out. Even with the extended warranty I had to pay for towing myself. I have also had 3 recalls since owning the vehicle.

I love my car, but I'm not sure if I would have purchased it if I had known there would be so many problems with it. The extended warranty really hasnt helped me in any of my unfortunate circumstances. Never buy the first year model of a car, ait till all the kinks work themselves out.

It's a very solid feeling SUV, but drives like a sports car. Larger on the inside (with seats down) than you'd think at first look. Superb styling and interior design. The HID Xenon headlights make night look like day. Nissan reliability.

Weakness:

Headlights should come on with wipers. Cruise control indicator is a bit bright at night. Ride is a tad bit stiff on long trips.

Excellent. I have the SL edition with premium package. Sports car like steering, great amenities, all wheel drive. The Bose sound system is well worth it. The CVT transmission has no shifting. It's a little slow to accelerate, but there's a "sport" mode on the shifter, wow that works great! A great mini-SUV!

Strength:

Sporty Ride, great traction, Good stock tires for handling and tread looks agressive for snow. Comfortable seating ergonomics. CVT Transmission works well and "shift" programming is very good. DVD based GPS system is very good.

Weakness:

I think it looks funny, but I don't care much about looks-it works! (and my wife likes the looks) Rear trunk hatch is not steel- can't hang a "soccer mom" magnetic soccer ball to it! (What the heck is it- aluminum? plastic?) Brakes- Rotors were warped on a new car (~120 miles on it when bought). The dealer salesman gave me a BS story about "rust on rotors", but I forced them to machine the rotors- the mechanic agreed with me-they were warped pretty badly.

My wife bought this a few months ago. We LOVE the Murano SL. I have a 2004 Toyota Highlander V6, that I thought was good, but now I want a Murano! My wife traded in a 3 Series BMW with sport suspension and fat tires, and thought she'd lose a lot of the sporty drive-but not with the Murano! I don't care for the styling too much, but the vehicle definitely works, and makes you feel confident driving it at higher than normal speeds on back roads. The 6 cylinder engine is plenty powerful, even mated to the CVT (continuously variable transmission). I was wary of the CVT at first, but the programming of it is very intelligent. It tends to keep the engine revs low (good for MPG), but the torquey engine and the CVT allow the revs to rise instantly, allowing plenty of acceleration-- no gear "hunting" or pauses to shift as in a standard automatic transmission. The cool thing about the CVT is that when decelerating, it is always hooked up and ready to supply power (doesn't need to shift down). The CVT programming also seems to provide engine braking, as soon after taking your foot off the brake, you can feel the CVT still holding you back when going down a big hill. Very cool. PREMIUM FUEL - I DO NOT USE premium. A lot of people are complaining about HAVING to use premium fuel--did you know you don't have to? I use the regular stuff, and have for years on a BMW and my Highlander that prefer "premium". Modern engine controls have "knock sensors" to detect damaging engine "pinging". Back in the old days before knock sensors, you could melt pistons and damage your engine. But now, if you don't want to use premium, and put the cheaper stuff in, the computer will dial back the ignition timing if it detects pinging (usually only during high loads-acceleration, etc). The only thing you lose is some high-end horsepower, which unless you are a "racer", you won't even notice. The Murano 6 cylinder has plenty of power even on the cheaper gas. I've heard from others that the Murano's drive "rough". The SL (for "Luxury"?) is plenty firm and sporty, but I don't think it's rough-just firm. It's just not as pillowy smooth as my Highlander. The Murano SL handling response is on the sporty side, not very firm, but not "floaty" either. I hear the SE version goes to the sporty extreme, and magazine reviewers say to stay away from them unless you can live with the very hard ride (and not much seems to be gained by going to the SE hard suspension). But, I feel the SL handling is the closest thing to my wife's old BMW sport 3-series handling in an SUV I've seen. It is very confidence inspiring, and the brakes and tires seem to be able to stop all that weight in a hurry. The driving ergonomics are excellent. On our Murano,(lots of extras), there are moveable foot pedals, power seat (with position memory for 2 people) and a tilt wheel. More than enough to find a very comfortable perch for long rides (Unlike my Toyota Highlander where the steering wheel is way to far away from me.) We have lots of "extra" doodads on this vehicle; comments below: DVD GPS Navigation system- although expensive, it works well. It does a good job "auto-rerouting" you for fastest time, etc. The map screen is integrated in with the heater/AC and radio controls + also has a "backup" camera- so you can see directly behind you when backing up. I just hate having to press the "lawyer button" every time I start the car that says "I accept" a legal release for Nissan. I guess we are too litigious in America.... if I crashed because I was playing with the GPS while driving, I wouldn't sue Nissan, but I guess people do! Bose Sound system with 6CD changer- High quality, good sound front and rear. Good bass. XM Satellite- good, but signal seems to drop out frequently where we live- I was surprised to see that trees can kill the satellite signal so easily. No National Public Radio on XM (is on Sirius), which stinks. Heated leather seats- Good, but don't seem to get as hot as old BMW seats. Doesn't turn off automatically (Hi/Low/Off switch).

Model Reviewed: Murano

Strength:

Great road holding, cavernous carrying capacity, comfortable ride. Plenty fast.

Weakness:

Poor fuel economy. Too much vibration transmited to cabin. Minor fit and finish imperfections.

There are many things to like about the Murano and the AWD has proven excellent when driving in the rain (most of my driving in Florida, where it can rain an inch per hour, no problem). Steering is a bit rough at parking lot speends, but handling is excellent on the road. Recently had to make a rapid evasive manouver to avoid getting t-boned by a Jepp and the Murano held the road like a Porsche. Unfortunately, the handling seems to come at the expense of some comfort--on badly paved roads around town (and what town doesn't have a lot of them) my Murano transmits a lot of vibration to the body, resulting in minor rattles and hums (e.g. the gear shifter is a lttle loose and rattles). I don't feel this as a dirver or passenger, but the it is certainly not as quiet as my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee. For example, the front seat makes a rattling noise if there is nobody sitting in it. And content of bags placed on the seats tend to vibrate. But the real downer is the gas mileage. I have never achieved better than 14.8 mpg around town and it has never reached 20 mpg on the highway. Indeed, it rarely budges about 15 even when I make a trip on State roads where I'm doing 50-60 mph most of the time. This is a real pain because I traded in my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7L V8 for the Murano mainly to get better mileage and I am not. I am going to visit with the Nissan dealer this week to see if they have any suggestions, but if this vehicle can't be made to make something closer to the EPA of 20/24 it is outta here. Which is a pity because I love the red leather and the bronze color and the looks you get when you pull up to valet parking. Sadly, I know I am not the only person experiencing below par mileage. I have checked several forums. My 14/17 is typical, and I'm in Florida...NO hills and not a lot of wind (outside of hurricanes). Maybe the engine setup is particularly sensitive to humidity (we have a lot of that here and I know some cars turn in much better mpg on dry air). Regardless, my mpg experience has not been good so far and would warn prospective buyers of this, especially now that gas is so expensive. A BMW325Xi Sportwagon might be a better bet at EPA 19/26 which some owners report they are getting. Of course, some Murano owners seems to be getting better mileage than me, so there may be hope. Finally, I have to say the CVT has worked great and I have not had anything go wrong in 12 months of use.
