I leased this car, the sales told me it is trouble free... the only thing I need to do is oil change in the fist three years. Now it is only 29 month, the service engine soon light is on, I took it to Gwinnett place nissan. They told me, it is off warranty, as it is 37k miles, just over the 36k mile warranty, and they charged to the full amount of everything, end up costing my 900 dollars fixing it. Now, I do not know what will go wrong for the next 10 month till the lease ends, everything has to be outof my pocket. Compare to my friends' experience, he bought a 2001 mercedes E320 this year for 23k, add 3k for 3 year extnended warranty, and be happy, I feel like the pathfiner is a piece of junk. Will not lease again. Nor More Nissan.

Strength:

I have not spent any money on this vehicle except for tires and oil changes. The car is so reliable, it is scary. The car is actually built out of steal and not aluminum or plastic. The newer models starting I think from 1999 and up are built out of cheap aluminum and if you touch them wrong, they dent.

Weakness:

I have long legs and find driving very uncomfortable unless I put the back of the seat down. I have wood grain in my model and find that it rattles, I have never had it looked at because it isn't that bad.

My mom owned this car before me and took good care of it. I would not go as far to say that she maintained the vehicle in terms of maintenance but it runs great. I have been driving the vehicle for about 2 years now and it has 68,000 miles on it. My mom drove it probably 2 miles a day.

Strength:

Value, Nissan reliability and lots of power! Cargo room at the back is quite good (it holds my 53” gun case with the backseat in the up position).

Weakness:

The back seat is tight. If you plan on having passengers back there all the time, think twice!

This is my first 4x4. It is everything I expected plus the extra gas consumption. I had expected the Pathfinder to be 50% gas consuming than my 2001 Maxima. The actual is more like 75% for the first three winter months. Given that it is brand new and the driving is winter in town type, I am sure things will get better. In reality, the Pathfinder gas consumption is about average among the V6 4WDs. The SUV performs very well and drives quietly in town or on the highway. The steering is precise and the ride is softer than my Maxima. Comparing to other 4WD (not AWD), the Pathfinders' value is second to none. For the same level of option in a Toyota 4Runner I would have to pay $10K more - hard to justify! I like the Murano but not sure how it would perform off-road for hunting and fishing trips.

Strength:

Reliability. Only one item, but the most important. For a person who does a lot of kilomers, I do not want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Weakness:

Floor and wind noise not in harmony with price point. Chronic failure of window moldings, rear wiper motor and defogger. Oil filter really hard to reach.

This is my second Pathfinder. One of the most reliable vehicules I have ever purchased. I travel a great deal and my vehicule now has 275,000 km on it. Nothing major. Same bearings, tie rods, nothing to the motor. The only major items changed were my link rods and shocks. The only problem that I have had with this vehicule (I had the exact same problems with my first Pathfinder) are the window moldings that rust away prematuraly, the rear window wiper that will not function in intermittent mode during humid weather and my rear defogger just died on me right after the warranty finished. Everytime I pass a Pathfinder, I check their window moldings and yep, they're rusted. I also see a lot of Pathfinders going by with their rear wipers stuck in the middle of the rear windshield. At $110 for each window mold and $300 plus dollars for a second rear window wiper I say; ouch!

ride, seat comfort, body roll, tail wiggle

Horrible ride. Not only is it very rough, it's actually scary! It's like fighting 4-wheel steering. In reading I found it to be bad bushings, when I took it into the dealer while still under warranty, they only said No Habla Inglis.

Strength:

V6 3.0i= grunty power. Goes anywhere. Comfortable ride. Plenty of interior room. All the electrics.

Weakness:

No dash dimming switch. Headlights collect water when crossing rivers. Not as comfortable as the mitsi Diamante.

I have found this truck to be totally awesome. Had to replace the mainfold bolts and have the manifold ground back to a straight edge:cost $400NZ. Have 31x10.5x15 Hancock AT. Have replaced the auto hubs with manual ones and replace the OEM eletric suspension and coils with Old Man Emu (Aust) shocks and colis. Plan to add a snorkel and difflock in the near future. Have had it pretty deep(level with bonnet) without drowning it yet. Goes great off road. Lots of mud and hills in NZ and the truck delivers 100% of the time. Yet to need recoverying.

Strength:

This is a real suv, not a wanna be. Built on a truck frame, so it's strong&sturdy, feels good to drive. well laid out controls, can fit my 6'4" husband in back seat behind me (I'm 5'7") v-6 engine, 4wheel drive, looks good for and older designed suv

Weakness:

spare tire in cargo area, my son's stroller takes up the WHOLE cargo area. When we travel, need to put everything on the roof rack, not always convenient. a little cramped to sit i back seat with infant's car seat in middle.

I've had my pathfinder for 2years now and it's been a great suv. I haven't had to do anything to it except change the oil. It's a 95, but it only had 43,000 miles on it when I bought it. We live in a very small town. It had alot of bells and whisles inside except leather & cd player, but I had to add the roof rack, nerf bars, and tint. The previous owner owned his own carpet cleaning business and he kept the interior emaculate. It was always garaged and driven mostly on weekends. Right after I bought it, he saw us in it and told us it was "his Baby". He gave all the history, dealer maintained, new procomp (expensive) offroad tires, that he only traded it in to get a new chevy truck at the low interest rates. It was just as good as buying new in my opinion. It's getting an entertainment center put in for the kids which will sound great on the eight speakers. My dad, who doesn't get used cars, has tried to swap his car for my suv for the last two years. He even offered me his brand new fully loaded Hundai Sonata for the Pathfinder. It's been a great car, and it look better than the day I bought it, just as clean, with only 57,000 miles now. I plan on keeping it for a long time. If I did decide to sell it though, blue book is $9,500, just $1,000 more than what I paid for it. If you can find one, get it.

handles great, able to pull out very smoothly when my pathfinder went out of conlrol spining as I hit a patch of ice. Very roomie and comfortable.

Weakness:

Gas milage. I am a college student and would like my car to go further on gas.

I have really enjoyed my 1997 nissan Pathfinder "Flip" is his name. (I traded it in for a 2000 VW jetta that I bought brand new which gave me notjhing but problems the 2nd year I had it.) It is a 4X4, 5 speed. it really handles well. I only had one mishap which was taken care of right away, there was a recall on a part but they fixed it no charge.

Strength:

240 hp. tow capacity. price, at least for me.

Weakness:

adjustable rear middle head rest, a must! rear middle seat needs shoulder belt, also a must! exterior design, QX4 looks better. Needs VSC as standard or similar. Needs Geartronic or similar shifts for the automatic. (It's in other Nissan Models) Shifting to 4 wheel seems harder than my previous Grand Cherokee.

I just brought my path 4x4 about a month ago and really have nothing bad to say about it. It had 3 miles on it, so that was good. I brought it with almost every option except for the leather. The rear hatch is hard to close, but overall it's a good suv. Before buying this vechicle, I was considering MDX, X5, XC90, and QX4 (no more new ones in Infiniti of Denver). The bottom line was this suv was going to be our family spare work vechicle (possibly towing), so it really didn't need it to be refined, so I decided to save the money and go with the pathfinder. The price was unbeatable, I basically did it all by phone between dealerships, did this last year with my wife's '02 suv. I probably would've recommend this suv to others, but '03 is the last year on this model/design.
