Strength:

good off-road ability easy switch between 2 & 4 wheel drive comfort, ride, decent engine power, smooth auto. trans., nissan name for Japanese made cars. good handling for a SUV.

Weakness:

The exhaust manifold bolts and heat shields are weak. I had to replace them because I had 2 broken bolts and a cracked heat shield. 15 MPG :( wierd noise from the rear, sounds like a internal problem. ride is a little stiff from the suspension.

1995 NISSAN PATHFINDER XEV6 4x4 fully loaded. The pathfinder is a very nice SUV for the money that I payed for it. My Pathy was owned by a elderly woman, she drove it to and from Phoenix every day for work, so it has 111000K miles on it now but it is running STRONG since I gave it a tune-up(spark plugs and wires, distributor cap, trans. flush, brakes, front axels radiator flush). The interior is in like new condition, and the exterior is perfect exept for the hood which has some highway chips and some oxidation. I had a 1996 NISSAN Pickup but it got demolished in a car wreck. I have liked NISSANs because of there reliability, quality and Durability. My pathfinder is a very strong truck. I took it to a Repair shop for a check-up and the guy said that my SUV is in excellent condition for the year and for how many miles are on it. He said that it could last up to over 300,000miles!!! the automatic transmission shifts smoothly. easy to fix up performance wise.

Strength:

It's just fun to drive this thing around! I love cruising it around at the beach, or in the mountains, or even in the heart of the city. Always reliable, in the city or on the highway. A/C is ice cold, and the heater is hot. It never lets me down.

Weakness:

Engine is a bit underpowered, with its 3.0 litre size. Really, a 4.0 litre engine should used. Not even 2003 models have enough power for the body size. This is the major weakness of all pathys. The other is gas mileage; this vehicle is always thirsty. If I'm lucky, I get 16 MPG. That's a drag, but I guess that's the price we pay for driving such a fun vehicle.

I love this SUV, it's so fun to drive, and it's a real SUV, meaning that taking it offroad was still a consideration for Nissan in 1995. The Pathfinder was completely re-designed in the 1996 model year, going from a truck frame to a unibody frame, and IMO, a much uglier body style. I bought my Pathy used in 2001, with 96000 miles on it. It nows has 133000 miles, and it drives great. Though it's a base XE model, it came loaded: power windows, power locks, A/C, leather interior, ASC power moonroof, a Waag grill guard, running boards, tail light guards, privacy glass, and I replaced the stock stereo with an Alpine CD head unit. About the only extras missing are heated seats and all disc brakes.

Strength:

Power Smooth carlike ride, comfortable seating, Great for winter, and a safe vehicle for anyone to drive not to mention its very fun to drive.

Weakness:

Seat heaters act funny when temp is warm and it feels colder than what it is. Could use a third row seat and a little more cargo room.

The Nissan Pathfinder is an unbelieveable vehicle. Those who complain about gas apparently have not driven a Grand Prix. I hesisitated in purchasing a 4X4 because of gas, but I wanted an suv. I shopped around and weighed my options. Nissan had what I needed. A beautyful 4X4 with an "elevated car like drive". It has the right power which eliminated the Toyota 4 runner(totally under powered). I wanted to steer away from Dodge because of the horror stories I have heard. Not only is my friends Dorango gas avg 8mpg, but he can not drive it because of it constant need for repairs. The pathfinder was my choice after 3 months of searching. The Pathfinder is comfortable, fully powered (engine), and isnt to bad at the gas pump. You are given a 60k mile warranty (power train)and with my experience with nissan, Its not going to be used. If your looking for a vehicle check out the Nissan Pathfinder and check no more.

Nice VQ35 3.5L V6 engine 240HP... BOSE 6 SPKERS SOUND SYSTEM AS A STANDARD GOOD 4WD SYSTEM NICE POWER... ENOUGH ON HIGHWAYS TO PASS OTHERS GOOD LOOKING

Weakness:

SMALL REAR HEAD AND LEG ROOM (DUE TO ITS HIGH GROUND CLEARANCE WHICH IS GOOD FOR OFFROAD) REAR DRUM BRAKE NO GEAR INDICATOR IN THE DASH WEAK BUMPERS POOR GAS MILELAGE (BUT WAT DO U EXPECT FROM A 240HP?) BAD CENTRE CONSOLE DESIGN ONE LAST THING... REALLY BAD A/C... SURPRISED WITH A JAPAN MADE VEHICLE (IN MA MIND.. JAP VEHICLE SHOULD B EXCELLENT IN A/C... GOT FEW RIDES IN TOYOTA CROWNS (LEXUS EQUIVALENT) AND NISSAN CEDRICS (INFINITI EQUIVLENT).. THEIR A/C R GOOD ENOUGH TO BLOW OUT THE "FOG EFFECTS" LIKE A FRIDGE

This is a true offroad vehicle... It's worth the value

Strength:

Almost maintenance free. Easy to find parts, with OEM parts being cost effective. Solid performance and construction, still using original clutch and does not burn oil.

Weakness:

Because they hold their value, used prices are higher than average. Older models lack HP and have poor MPG. Bumpers rust out and bodies will rust around windshield. Seats are thin and uncomortable on longer trips. Some repairs are tricky for the do-it-yourselfer but can be done.

If you are in the market for a SUV the Pathfinder IS the ONE!!! I bought mine with 101K already on it. It now has 141K. I've had it for six years and other than wear-n-tear the only money invested in repairs was a water pump. This truck has been a trooper. The older ones leave something to be desired though; more horsepower, 4 doors, better gas mileage..... All in all this truck has been a pleasure to own and is being sold back to it's original owner to be restored.

Strength:

power,torque and ride quality

Weakness:

a/c doesn't work well in stop and go traffic it usually shuts off after about 10-15 minutes (where i live temperatures reach in excess of 115 degrees)so its a problem. and gas milage sux i get around 15-16 on the highway

This is a good vehicle to drive around town and on the road. It has a good stereo system and the 3.5 liter engine has pretty good power. It does good in the sand dunes which I frequent but I just need a better set of tire only thing is Its hard to find some so small and its very difficult to find lift kits for this vehicle cause its a unibody. I also bought a k&n filter and it thrashed my mass air flow sensor and I paid $600 for it my mechanic said it was due to the filter so i've decided to leave it stock for fear of messing up something else. but all in all its a good suv.

Strength:

Power, looks, options, reliability, feel for the road

Weakness:

Weak shifting when cold, costly to maintain, problems with CD changer, seat-belt stopped retracting properly, tight passenger seating with low clearance in the back seat

A powerful SUV for it's class with 240 horses to get you out of the rough stuff. Been getting 15-18 mpg but most of my driving is on the highway. Seating is a bit tight for 3 across the back and head clearance is an issue for above average passengers. Transmission seemed to slip a little when vehicle is cold but a complete fluid change at 60K may have taken care of that. Heated leather package with auto 4x4 (optional dial) has been well worth the extra $$. No major problems but maintenance can get pricey.

Weakness:

Gas mileage!!! More horsepower, although this has already been addressed in newer models.

If you need an SUV this is the one! This will likely be the last SUV I buy. While this may sound like the start of a negative review, it actually isn't. I really do not have a need for an SUV, I don't have anything to tow around, I don't go off roading and despite it being amazing in the winter it's just not a neccessity. The truth is, I got caught up with the whole yuppy craze with getting an SUV. I am really disappointed with the fuel mileage that this type of vehicle gets. I knew it would be worse than a typical car but I think 15mpg is just unexceptable. The reliability and comfort of this vehicle are fantastic. The dealership (Brantford Nissan, ask for Karen) I dealt with for service and warranty issues was excellent and it speaks highly of the product. I looked at all the competition and this is the one to get, but remember, only if you really need to have one!
