Unusually bad tires. Did a lot of research and glad I ended up with the X. Tight, solid, good looking. 5 speed is comfortable as trucks go. Similar Products Used: Better than Grand Cherokee |

Not nearly enough power! Exellent Vehicle overall. Would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a true SUV. Excellent off roading. I've done things in my Xterra that I would never try in most SUV's. Similar Products Used: Toyota Tacoma |

Nissan Xterra SE-V6 2WD
Strength:
This SUV just looks really cool! It rides high, and isn't too big for parking spaces.
Weakness:
Gas mileage stinks! I'm getting around 16mpg no matter where I go, and with $2.00 a gallon gas prices in my town, this is a very expensive truck to drive. I have only driven this truck for about two months, but in that short time I have come to love this truck. I got the bright Solara Yellow. It's a head turner and I'm always getting the thumbs up from other Xterra owners who must share my good feeling while driving this truck. I got a lot of bang for my buck in this SUV! Similar Products Used: I've had two Toyota 4Runners, and three 4X4 Toyota pick-ups. Toyota is a great truck, but not worth the price tag. A similarly equipped Toyota SR5 was almost $7K more! |

LOOKS, LOOKS, LOOKS. Its a great car, and most of all, its a REAL truck.
Weakness:
not the Toyota Highlander. Its a great car, but a little off for on-foad driving. I've had my x-Terra for a little less then a year and I love it. After I bought it I upgraded the car with some after market products, a brush guard, and tail light guards, window raingards, and a viper eps 550 with remote start, and the car is a gem, not to mention a head turner. The car is perfect for what its built for, GREAT for off-road, although its a little sluggish for the city, and pavement roads, for the citty, there is not enough MPG, and needs more HP. 3 weeks after purchase, had a little rattle on the rear, but the technicians took care of it right away. Overall this is a great car, and its great for its price, a fully loaded SE for just over 24000. WHY PICK THE X-TERRA IN A YEAR OF 100'S O SUVS????????? I test drove all kinds of SUV's, the 4-runner, Durango, Rav4, Escape, Explorer, Pathfinder, Grand Vitara, Expedition, and the Navigator. Although all of them can cost an arm and a leg, none of them offered the standard useful equipment of the X-Terra, and full size, and yet small enough to find parking spots. The X-Terra makes sense for anyone that loves the off-road, and a REAL TRUCK Similar Products Used: test drove the Durango, explorer, navigator, ray4, and many other SUV's. |

Strength:
The solid feel, rattle free ride. Quiet comfortable. Everything works as it should. It is very stable on the highway. The engine is a quiet operator and very smooth. The transmission shifts very smoothly. It has powerful headlights. Nissan dealership very professional and helpful in every way.
Weakness:
Engine could use a few more horses. Better speakers for sound system. Paid $31,000 (CDN) for the SE loaded. Yes I would recommend it. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Pricing (I got it for just under MSRP, believe it or not), no frills means no frills, and it's the Swiss Army Knife of the newer SUVs.
Weakness:
Somewhat weak power, gas mileage will eat you alive if you use it to commute, and the 4X4 shift is right where I like to put my right knee (I'm 6'2"). Soon I'm going to have a bone spur on that knee. I would recommend it for anybody who wants a no-nonsense, take-it-out-and-beat-it-up vehicle. Handles well off-road and I'm not afraid to take it where others leave their luxury SUVs behind. However, I haven't done as much mountaineering as I'd wished to, and I have it in the paper to sell. I will go for one that's made more for on-road conditions. I find I don't necessarily need a rugged SUV, just one to fit two St. Bernards in. One dealer said that due to the heavy demand, the trade in value on an XE 5 spd. with 11k miles is over $21,000, so I don't have to take a big hit on price. I thank each and every one of you for that. I hope the next person that drives it will use it to it's fullest extent. Similar Products Used: None |

This truck has a great feel to it. If you are the outdoors type than this is the truck for you. It is great for mountain biking and any other outdoor activities. I was not impressed with the 2000 interior but I will say that I am glad I waited for the 2001 model because the interior has a few more bells and whistles like the 6 cd dashboard changer.
Weakness:
MY biggest problem was with my dealer at 112 Nissan on Long Island (suffolk county), I was jerked all around so if you have a choice go somewhere else if you are in NY!!!!!!!! In another few years when I have worn through my truck I will be out looking for another xterra. Similar Products Used: None |

Appearance, storage space, roof rack, gear basket. Like the commercial says... everyhting you need nothing you dont.
Weakness:
gas mileage, location of cruise control, weak radio Xterra is exactly what I expected. Rides great for an SUV. You cant beat the look of the vehicle itself. I am always seeing people stare at it. I am sure the all black xterra washed and waxed has something to do with it. Similar Products Used: I looked at everything including the Pathfinder. Couldnt justify paying an extra 4-6K for Pathfinder when Xterra has it all |

Strength:
Looks, most of all. The Stadium Seating is the one thing that is really noticed by passengers. Comfort, stabitilty on the road as well as off road. Handles nice! Great power up hill when off roading. Handles awesome in the snow. Never give it up. very roomy in the cabin and visibility is great.
Weakness:
MPG is a little on the weak side. Power a little slugish for size and weight. Had the X for 6 months now and get happier everyday for purchasing it. It get's some many looks and stares. Because it's the Solar Yellow. I had lot's of extras put on. I have the front brush gaurd and tail light gaurds, amber fogs, laser halogens mounted on the top Yakima/Safari rack w/spare tire on top. All 3 packages and custom tires and wheels. It is the best out there in Suv's for it's price and quality. I love it! Similar Products Used: Used to have a V6 Isuzu Rodeo and thought that was the best in the class, but I was wrong. More power in the X and better handling. Smoother ride and more reliability in all aspects. |

XE 4X4 Silver
Strength:
Proves to be one of the true SUVs out there, holds 4 bikes, holds plenty of skis and boots, impossible to get stuck, pulls a snowmobile trailor easily, has a solid feel, skid plates have come in handy plenty of times, and the looks I get from the jaw dropping yuppies in their 40+k so called SUVs, as I blast past them in the mud! I take this truck on ski trips every other weekend, who needs a chair lift when you have one of these! It handles the deepest snow you are going to ever see in Michigan.
Weakness:
Sound system needs a bit of an upgrade, hard to hear music with all four windows down while cruising down the highway. I am in the midst of upgrading the system now with some new speakers and an amp. The biggest two complaints I have about the X is that many buyers are simply buying the truck to gain that self image they have always wanted and feel that buying an X will help them look cool, well they're wrong. You know, the people who think cutting across their front lawn a couple times on a rainy day is mudding, you must be kidding. I am seeing too many 45 year old ladies getting out of their X wearing high heeled shoes. It just doesn't seem right! Now I love my ladies in Xterras, so to all the dads out there, do your daughter a favor and get her an Xterra, preferably a Silver one, and while your at it, buy her a new pair of skis and a Yakima Rocket Box for the top. And last but not least, when you see me in my Xterra and I give you a wave, please don't look at me like I am an idiot, rather wave back. How about starting a new trend! This is the ultimate car to have if you like to have any fun in life. You can take this car anywhere and you will get looks from people in Porsches to Land Rovers. From skiing in the UP of Michigan to the beaches of South Haven Michigan, I get stares wherever I go. I have added a few extras as well, which I feel truly describes what kind of X owner you are. Whether you buy it stock and see your twin at every other stop light, or if you create an Xterra of your own, different from the one your friends grandmother drives to and from the salon. I detailed the roof spoiler, installed a front brushguard and two Hella Off Road lights. There will be plenty more, but I have to make sure I can keep up with the high gas prices of the midwest. To sum up, you are driving the toughest SUV on the road, except for my dream, a Land Rover Defender 90 w/ a safari package, but let's be reasonable, so have fun with it, get off the pavement, the fun just begins when you get out of the right hand lane and onto something other than pavement. Similar Products Used: Compared to Ford Escape (Too car-ish), Jeep Cherokee (too unreliable, little head room and storage room for bikes in rear), Jeep Wrangler (no place to keep my golf clubs secure!). |
