This is one great truck. It has great manners on and off road, the right balance of creature comforts and rusticity, and it's build like a tank. I will drive the truck to tebground, and it will take me a long, long time to do so. I just love it!

Weakness:

None

As fasr back as I can remember, I've always wanted a 4Runner. Now that I have one I can say it's exactly what I wanted. It took me a while to save up the money, but all I can say is that it was worth every penny.

I bought this suv 3 years ago.at the time it had 40000 miles it now has 120000 and i do not plan on getting rid of it any time soon. The reliability is second to none.If you need a vehicle to get you to work everyday or get you home from you weekend in the mountains, buy one of these.I plan on replacing my wifes toyota camry with another 4runner this year.
As mantioned above I have compared it to the cherokee and blazer of the same year, and well, the quality construction of the toyota shines through.I mean after ten years this thing still doesn't have a rattle.as for the cherokee and blazer you may want to wear ear plugs. As for the lack of power, don't sweat it, at least you will get there.
This is a great vehicle period.

Strength:

You can't buy a more reliable, better looking, better off-road performing SUV without forking out $$ for a Land Cruiser or Range Rover. For over 2 years my 4Junner has given me driving pleasure! Every time I look at it from across a parking lot I say to myself "Man, what a good looking vehicle!" It has lived up to everything I expected from it.

Weakness:

For 98 the cupholders are in an odd place, but that has been corrected in newer models. Other than that minor inconvenience, I can't complain about anything.

As I've said, you cannot buy a more reliable SUV than the 'old faithful' 4runner. If you plan on doing any real off-road driving this is the vehicle you should consider. I have taken it places you would be amazed to see a vehicle go. (A Jeep could get there, but it would break down on the way out, leaving you stranded anyway!)
I have the sports package on a 4X4 model with no running boards and a V6, which is the only way to go if you want to do some real off-roading. Highway driving is also pretty darn good for a true off-road machine. I have no problems with acceleration, in fact it impresses me how good this V6 runs. I've only added a K&N air charger, which I would have to recommend to any 4Runner owner. (Not just the filter, the whole new intake system.) Also, this is an expensive machine, so don't skimp on the oil. Use Mobile 1 synthetic! Your 4Runner will thank you for it by running better.
The bottom line is I own the best looking SUV on the block. Just look over the years at the changes in other SUV's. They are all evolving to look like the 4Runner! It will go up hills and over obstacles that other SUV's would run from. Break it in properly and it has plenty of speed on pavement.
There are other SUV's out there that ride a little better on-road, but they simply cannot hang with the 4Runner off-road, PERIOD. If you want the best all around SUV and plan on really going off-road,then buy a 4X4 V6 4Runner and be done with it!

Looks very attractive, and a female will always feel very secure in it.

Weakness:

could be a bit smoother and more speed.

Slightly disappointed!!!!
I know that I overpaid on the security system, the price listed www.toyota.ca
quotes it as between $299-$499, we were charged $895+ tax, and as for the wood dash accent, we paid 595+ tax when the site has it listed for$395.
What a rip off !

Base sticker price of our "Runner" started at $41,000 and by the time Taxes Pdi, Freight, and the optional packages were all added in the final total was $44,272.
I think we over paid, what do you think...?

Strength:

This vehicle is wonderful. It is exactly what you would expect to get when you spend this kind of money. Reliability, ground clearance, Electric rear window, spare tire under hidden truck bed, stands tall able to see bad things ahead, good turning radius, very small blind spots, 4x4 system is easy to use. Strong solid feel, NO pings, NO rattles and NO knocks with over 70K miles

Weakness:

Amazing, the only bad thing I can say is a they put the cup holders in a strange place (in front of ac vents blocking its operation) but I knew that when I bought it. Of all that could go wrong that is no problem at all.

I had the worst experience with American products. Limited warranties that always seem to never work your way. I owned a Toyota product before the ford and Chevy and should have learned my lesson then. This 4Runner is worth every dollar. Recently Texas experienced bad ice storms and there was no better feeling than knowing you have a safe, reliable vehicle that will get you home. I am looking at a new 4Runner and was (again) very satisfied with the value left in this vehicle. I will be a Toyota customer for life.

RELIABLE, GREAT OFF-ROADER, DECENT GAS MILEAGE, GREAT RESALE VALUE.

Weakness:

IT IS A LITTLE UNDERPOWERED COMPARED TO AMERICAN MADE SUV'S, BUT YOU KNOW IT'LL LAST A LOT LONGER THAN THOSE AMERICAN MADE POS'S.

THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ALL AROUND SUV'S ON THE MARKET, IT'S RELIABLE. MINE HAS ALMOST 96,OOO MILES ON IT WITHOUT A SINGLE PROBLEM, NOT ONE. IT GETS DECENT GAS MILEAGE, 19 ON HWY AND 16 AROUND TOWN. IT'S UNSTOPPABLE OFF-ROAD IN STOCK FORM. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE MANUAL, MY BUDDY HAS THE SAME VEHICLE BUT WITH AN AUTO AND HIS IS WAY MORE UNDERPOWERED THAN MINE. IF YOU WANT RELIABILITY, A GREAT OFF-ROAD VEHICLE, AND SOMETHING THAT'S STILL WORTH MORE THAN $10,000 AFTER IT'S PAID FOR YOU CAN'T BEAT A TOYOTA

I like the fact that I can see at least 5 cars a head of me. I like the durability and the power of the truck. This truck has great balance..

Weakness:

The cab is a little small and the truck needs a more horsepower...

I would recommend this SUV to anyone who wanted to feel safe in a vehicle.. Because the cab is so small I wouldn't recommend this truck for tall or above average sized people.. Other than that " I Love this truck "...

Strength:

This is an awesome vehicle. I have been extremely rough on my 4Runner and it has given me no problems.

Weakness:

The ONLY problems that it has are lack of power and open diffs.

I love my 4Runner. I would have no complaints if I had the supercharger offered by Toyota and the locking rear diff that is available from the factory. I got stuck in the snow on a logging road in Washington. I tried to get a Grand Cherokee to help me out. Unfortunately, it couldn't handle the ruts like my 4Runner and it high-centered. After we both got pulled out by lifted Toyota trucks, we went for a little drive. The Grand Cherokee struggled alot more than the 4Runner. Oh yeah, and have you ever tried to sit in the back seat of a Grand Cherokee? There is no leg room. Anyways, time for me to quit this rambling. Well, almost. I read that alot of people are having trouble with stearing wheel vibration at high speeds. That has nothing to do with the 4Runner. That is because of you alignment or tire balancing. I have given my 4Runner extreme amounts of abuse and I have no problems with vibration at any speed. In conclusion. I beg anyone looking at SUVs to push the 4Runner to it's limits and then do the same to any other SUV. I know that you will feel alot more comfortable in the 4Runner. Goodnight...

I compared it to the Grand Cherokee. 4Runner is alot better. The 4Runner has alot more ground clearance. 4Runner handles better on and off the road.

More than adequate cargo space.
Incredibly reliable!

Weakness:

The engine could use more guts.

I bought my 4-Runner when it was 1 year old, and have not had any problems with it. It needs only routine maintenance. It now has nearly 120,000 miles and keeps going strong. The one & only complaint I have about the 4-Runner is it's lack of power. Especially on hills. It's a dog heading up to the ski areas. I will, however, buy another 4-Runner if ever this one dies!

Strength:

*It is the best looking SUV on earth
*Greatest Quality of any SUV too
*Excellent BASS output from the windows when you add a system
*Even the stock sound system was dope
*A lot of aftermarket stuff available
*Quiet Engine
*Makes a dope rice rocket

Weakness:

*The interior panels fall out with loud BASS
*Very weak engine
*A bit pricey, but worth it
*Spins out too way too easily

My dad once took my car to Reno from Sacramento. He Crashed it into a highway rail at about 30mph because it doesn't have the best handling or traction control in the world. Only the front bumper was completely replaced and a few dents popped back in place in the front.

Since the 4runner is no Mercedez, things fall out inside the vehicle when the BASS hits. But thats OK, when the back window and the two front windows are down, the BASS goes out of the car, in other peoples faces(which is really cool).

It has never needed any minor repairs besides the bumper.
I replaced the dull looking headlamps with PIAA Super Plasma 55/60w H4 bulbs. Now the street is lighted up better and it looks pretty dope.

Going up the San Gabriel Mountains is an ill feeling, watching Geo Metros with a full load of junk in the back, pass me up, as the 4runner does not accelerate past 65 mph on those slopes without flooring the gas. Then on the way downhill those same slopes, I've reached the maximum speed possible, 107 according to my odometer, before the computer chip slows it down to about 100mph. At those speeds or anything past 80mph, the steering wheel gets really excited and shivers severely. I dream of a supercharger.

This is still the best SUV out there, I don't care about anything else. I'm 4runner for life. They can also make good rice rockets. I DO definitely recommend 4runner to anyone buying an SUV.
