Strength:

- excellent build quality
- reputation for long lasting vehicles
- fully boxed ladder frame
- good drivetrain
- excellent appearance
- high ground clearance
- comfortable interior with good controls

Weakness:

needs a larger gas tank
Needs a little more HP
Low head clearance when getting in and out.

This vehicle does exactly what I bought it for and much more. I can drive the highest mountain offroad passes in Colorado with out worry or haul junk from the hardware store and drive it to work every day and get decent gas mileage. I am very impressed with it's overall quality. One of my deciding factors was the fact it's built on a truck chassis. I can go off road when I want and not tear it up.

Strength:

interior room, height, perkiness

Weakness:

timing chain, water pump, sucks oil, valve seals come loose at 100K

I have 144K on my monty and I love the car....I have to sell mine though because I'm driving to Costa Rica and I'll be passing through some pretty scary countries and I need reliability. I'd love to think that I could depend on this truck because it drives soooo well, but it's not known for it's longevity and it it sucking 1QT of oil every tank of gas....I'm trying to get a 4runner because they have longevity

Strength:

Off-road, comfort, reliablity, handling

Weakness:

Price, it did cost a lot but when I sell it it will be worth alot. So in the end this is not really a weakness.

I LOVE MY 4RUNNER! It is a wonderful vehicle in every manner looks, drive, engine (available supercharger) transmission, ground clearance, off-road abilities, and most of all the QUALITY. It has handled any and all abuse I have given this truck treating it like a truck and is no worse for the wear. It a well designed well thought out vehicle for the purpose it was intended an all around truck with the ability to carry passengers and cargo safely inside.

Strength:

Reliable, reliable, reliable, quality of construction, excellent off-road capabilities especially with the factory locking differential option and great ground clearance.

Weakness:

Expensive, not much payload capacity unless you put in a heavier duty suspension.

An excellent car that's extremely reliable, the highest of quality throughout. After 4 years the car still looks and drives like brand new. I would definitely buy another 4Runner

Beats all other SUV's I've driven in it's class by far!!

Model Reviewed: Toyota 4Runner 4 cylinder

Strength:

Gas milage, repair access, low maintenance needs, good ride for a SUV, feels solid.

Weakness:

So it could use a little more power on take off, this helps build patience.

Bought this vehicle with the 4 cylinder engine for the gas milage and the fact that mechanics said it was easier to work on and that it is more durable than the V6. It has delivered on all accounts. The starter was easy to get to as opposed to the V6 where the engine mounts need to be loosened or removed to lift up the engine. The gas milage is 22-25 MPG, with little sacrifice on power. It is a 5 speed manuel so that helps. Everything works and it feels solid and rides comfortable for a SUV. The power issue is overcritized as it does well once you get going.

Have had several 4Runners and feel they are the standard of which other SUV's are built around.

Strength:

I love the solidness of this vehicle. After a year and a half it handles as well as the first day I bought it. Steering is tight and ride is smooth. So far this vehicle has lived up to all my expectations and even led me to buy another Toyota (Tacoma) for my business. Am also considering a Highlander.

Weakness:

Takes a little getting used to the instrument panel. I Turn up the heat/ac for the radio and vice versa! haha. Could be a little more electronic. Other than that...can't say that there is anything else that is a weakness on this vehicle.

This was my first Toyota product and I'm sold. Led me to purchase another Toyota and am considering a third. I just love the way the SUV handles and I believe they somewhat retain their value. I purchased this product after driving a Chevy Blazer for 4 years and passed it down to an employee. (I just replaced the transmission on the Blazer as well as other major components with only 49,000 miles on it).

Similar Products Used:

Before purchasing this vehicle I rented a Jeep Cherokee and Ford Explorer and they just don't compare. Sloppy handling.

Strength:

Very comfortable. Great pickup for a V4.Good storage space in the back, especially with the seats down. Rides great. Decent stock stereo. Gas mileage isn't bad. Paint and exterior has held up nicely too.

Weakness:

No power windows... in fact, even on the new 4Runners, power windows still aren't offered. Should be a standard feature.

Overall, in the 4.5 years we've had it, we have zero complaints. No major work has needed to be done. Brakes are still great after 50K miles. Rides as good today as it did when we bought it. Most work we've had to do is oil changes, replace two tires (after 4 years) and change the wiper blades. As a non-mechanical person, this has been a welcome relief. It's nice to feel confident in a vehicle for once.Highly Recommended.

Haven't driven others but have been passengers in several. IMO, rides as good as a Tahoe or Grand Cherokee

I am on my second 4 runner owned a 96 before this one and a grand cherokee before that. I came back for my second 4 runner because I still think it is the best looking suv out there. The sr5 looks like it is cut out of granite and solid with the hight ground clearance. Dont get the step rail or the small tires will ruin the clean look.
I hope the next version will still look clean and agressive without resorting to plastic ad ons.
