Strength:

Styling, Gas Mileage, Comfort, Handling, amenities,

Weakness:

18 gallon gas tank, Could use a little more horsepower

Bought it last month and so far I love it. It came loaded and is a very nice vehicle. (leather, large tires, sunroof, hood scoop.. etc.) Reseached and drove the 4Runner, Pathfinder, Grand Cherokee and the Land Rover Disco. Jeep was the worst of the group. Disco reliability concerned me a great deal. I loved the engine in the Pathfinder, but the 4Runner seemed a step above quality wise.

Strength:

Looks
Toyota quality
Excellent rear window
Off road capability
Cargo area

Weakness:

Pricey
No full time 4x4 option.
No illuminated vanity mirrors.
No automatic climate control

This is a good SUV, with good muscle and a lot of capabilities. I have a 1996 Limited and besides usual maintenance (oil, brakes, tires) I've never had to take her for service. I sure could use more power. The quality of the materials used is good, but for the price I expected more.

Weakness:

Bad engine, slow and noisy ride. The 4runner has very little features. The worst mid-sized SUV. Very little options.

The Toyota 4runner absolutely sucks. It has way too little horsepower and a very slow engine. The ground clearence is very high so the car could roll over very easily. It has very little features. The Nissan Pathfinder is much better than the 4runner. The 4runner doesn't have features like a navigation system and a mobile entertainment center like the Nissan Pathfinder. The Nissan Pathfinder has 57 more horsepower than the 4runner. The dealers are cheating people about the resale price of a 4runner.

great offroad truck by far the best 4x4 SUV ever made. very nice ride but will feel better once i add some rancho 9000 shocks

Weakness:

way under powered but has after market options for more power. sag in back of 2 gen is terrible but can replace with downey 1.5" coils or just get a body lift to fix

Great 4Wheelin truck im about to get a 3" body lift and threw some 31 BFGs on it. its a rock it will go any where any time.

(1997 Model) - This truck rocks. 3 years, almost 60K, zero problems. From lots of highway miles to fairly demanding 4x4, the Runner does everything. If you're thinking SUV, this is the best one.

Strength:

I really like the narrow profile of the 4Runner, unlike other SUVs which feel so unnecessarily big and bulky. While being plenty spacious (unlike those mini-SUVs), the 4Runner gets the best gas mileage (I believe) of any similarly-sized SUVs.

Weakness:

Still rides like a truck - too rough, particularly for people in the back seat.

Other than having better suspension, I wouldn't ask for anything more out of the 4Runner. It has been hassle-free and makes all travel so much nicer than driving in a car.

Reliable, Comfortable ride, Cool looks.

Weakness:

Low horse power engine, squeaky brakes.

(pre 1997 Model) - I have owned the 4-Runner for about 4 years now and I love it. It's been very reliable. Rides more like a car than a truck, but still has all the benefits of owning a truck. Good in the mountains and off trail. Love the looks.

(1998 Model) - Outstanding vehicle. This is the first SUV I've owned, but the 4th Toyota my wife and I have owned. Toyota makes an excellent product, and the 4Runner is no exception. From the handling and power to the overall look inside and out, this is a great product!

Strength:

I love its height and looks. Rides almost as good as a car but the spare room and looks make up for that.

Weakness:

I hate where they have placed the damn cup holders on this particular model. As well the center console could be a little bigger. MSRP is over priced for what you get.

Excellent price for an excellent vehicle. The fuel economy is not best but overall I am extremely happy.
