Strength:

Engine, ride, performance

Weakness:

Drove a Tahoe and decided that I paid way too much for my Toyota. The off-road qualities are superior to the Chevy, but the appointments and engine performance and value are simply crushed better in the Tahoe.

Solid as they come

Strength:

Build Quality, power, strength, awesome pulling power of Diesel (430 Nm from 1400-3200 rpm FLAT), relative economy, and roominess, Go Anywhere Anytime feel.

Weakness:

Only 1 climate control aircon. The car is big, and it gets real stuffy way back in the 3rd row seats. Slightly sanitised feel at the wheels at speed.

Carries my family of 3 boys and in-laws in style and comfort. Even had my sister and brother in law, 9 up for a fishing holiday and was still overtaking tankers and truckies with ease. The diesel is one awesome machine, much more economical than the 4.7 gas-guzzler in the US.
Offroad, have had no problems at all.

Anyone who wants a large family mover look no further. Better than a MPV, because you see 6 car lengths ahead on the motorway, and can just hop off sealed roads and drive right next to your favourite camp site.

Strength:

Very reliabe. Very safe. No major mechanical problems. It is a "Beast"

Weakness:

Gas mileage. Expensive insurance.
I got stuck in the sand once. The vehicle was too heavy and the sand was too soft! It is not at all "invincible". And it did costed me $100.00 to have it pulled out by two towed truck connected together.

For the past 12 years, I have always wanted to buy a TLC to keep it for the rest of my life. I found my 1996 TLC in the summer of 1999. It was "Love At The First Sign"! I have had many vehicles in the past, but none could come closed in compare to the TLC. If you want a SUV, TLC should be the "One". But take your time in searching for a perfect one with a perfect price and keep it. TLC can sure last a lifetime. Trade in for newer model every two or three years can be very costly. Good Luck!

Strength:

Nice look. Average performance in snow. Good room to fit 8 people under 4' tall.

Weakness:

Too expensive for what one gets. Gas mileage extreamly poor unless you live w/in a mile of work. Heavy body makes stopping on downhill snowy slope difficult. Repairs cost a FORTUNE.

Not economical now that gas costs $2/gallon for premium octane. No fuel economy. Good look but I only bought it because it is one of the most expensive SUVs on the market to help my image. I never off road. One or two trips on snowy roads on I-80. Not much "U" in this SUV. Hard to fit lumber from Home Depot in/on the car. DOES NOT fit more than four adults comfortably.

Strength:

Incredilbe off road, already had to pull out a Range Rover (and I hate to say this being a Brit !) and an Explorer. Build quality is excellent. Engine has incredible power at any revs. Extremely quiet.

Weakness:

Gas mileage and cost but I guess you have to pay for the best

Find a 1 yr old machine. I paid $37,000 for mine with 18,000 miles on it!!
This is simply the best machine on the road - go to Australia, the middle east or Africa and ask them what vehicle they want to have and all you hear is Landcruiser !

Similar Products Used:

Range Rover 4.0 SE - no comparison, the build quality and power on the 4.0 is awfull, the RR uses a 1965 Buick engine and it shows !! The LC beats the RR in every possible category. Some of the older LC owners say the '98s are no good off road because they have independent fron suspension - this is BS. The 98s will go anywhere a 96 will go and do it faster, quieter and more comfortably.

Strength:

Excellent fit and finish. Very smooth and comfortable ride, with minimal roll tendencies. I love the motor - good torqu, but would be even better with 20+hp.

Weakness:

Price

This is to me the best SUV made. It is great for everyday driving (gas mileage does suck!), yet is a competent 4 wheeler. I am extremely happy with my choice.

Strength:

Great engine, extremely powerful, tows great, solid, comfortable.

Weakness:

Brakes. I've had them wear quite often, and it doesn't stop the truck as well as I would like it to. Bad gas mileage.

I have no real complaints. I now have 60,000 miles on it and have done just the basic maintenance. Tows my boat very well and performs well in the winter. I tried it off-road last summer and had no complaints handled everything extremely well. I wish the gas mileage were a little better but it was expected.

Strength:

This is not a road 4WD. It's not built for those Urban Assault trips to the Mall with 10 kids in the back. It is however and excellent no frills, fix it with a screwdriver and hammer, go almost anywhere beast.

All the farmers and serious 4WD enthusiasts in OZ use them. It's not a luxury limp wristed pseudoTruck, and compares very favourably to similar trucks I have driven in Australia, Canada and the States but with less superfluous garbage like cruise control, A/C, and monster stereo.

A real workhorse, reliable but sadly the bomb proof tranny/clutch of the manual are not available in the Northern Hemisphere it seems.

Weakness:

Mileage is not fantastic, but it is not a city car. Similar to F350 and Landrover Defender.

I've always wanted a cruiser. My FJ60, and previous FJ40 have both been reliable, easy to do repair in the outback, and as faithfull as any dog I've had. Always there for me.

Got my FJ60 dirt cheap, should have been about $7500, from a mate. I've seen the newer models perform alongside mine and the extra power shows, although in my eyes the new troop carrier is the one to buy.

Similar Products Used:

Landrover Defender. Did a trip recently with a friend, what my cruiser lacked in power, it made up for in handling and reliability compared to his Defender.

Model Reviewed: /LC 100 4.2 Turbo Diesel 200hp

Strength:

100% off road useable, thanks hydropneumatical suspension like a RR on the road, most silent Turbo Diesel in this size, perfect starts at -35°C without aux-heater, perfect brakes, suprerior handling, manufacturing quality next to perfection

Weakness:

front window, it´s a joke. tiny stones (3mm) at speeds of >50km/h force outer window sheed to brake at impacts within edge zone of <70mm around window form, replacement seems to trouble even professionals (increased windnoise after detect false glueing)

The Toyota Landcruiser 100 4.2 Lit Turbo Diesel with 200HP has incredible power and torque, autotransmission can handle power very good, acts a little desinterested in shifting gears, the hydropneumatical suspension is unbelieveable and provides a comfort like in a RR on the road and protects the passengers back off the road. It is a every days working vehicle with a very nice design, packed in perfect quality.
I hated japanese cars before, was driving US products for 18 years, but this Landcruiser convinced in all categories.

The only one, which got close was: Lincoln Navigator BUT needs too much fuel (no diesel available), differential lock rear poor, middle one does not lock off road always
