Amazing looks, I have gotten compliments from everyone when the chrome wheels are on it. People have said "I don't usually like SUV's but yours is nice."

Weakness:

Ipod adaptor needs work.
Having some issues with skid control coming on at random intervals.

Purchased this vehicle brand new in April, and am very impressed with it. It has amazing handling and sporty looks. Nice stock rims, but vehicle looks better with summer Chrome rims. Also put in black and red leather seats. The vehicle handles very well in all conditions, and with the V6 engine it powers through mud and it will go through small rivers with water up to the door sills. Never had the engine hydro-lock. 0-60 in 7.1 is amazing for a vehicle under $40,000.00 (CDN) and especially for an SUV of this size. It has better acceleration then my brothers 2006 Honda Civic. Brakes are great, even with the Chrome rims on. Lots of stopping power. It's very comfortable for long trips as well, it's easy to drive over a thousand KM's a day. Tons of rear leg room, and lots of cargo room with the fold flat seating. Also, I'm a taller guy, about 6'2" and I find there is lots of head and leg room in both the front and the back.

brakes! If you're in a bad situation and someone suddenly brakes in front of you you can stop if you are less than a foot away.

Weakness:

When opening the sunroof all the way it has a helicopter sound.

This is a great car. For an SUV very easy to control. Very enjoyable to drive. Beautiful sporty/classy shape.

I own a 2004 Rav4 and it is the best quality vehicle I have ever owned. I'm impressed by the way the motor is designed and the quality of the parts. I also like how it handles in different weather conditions, including the snow.

Model Reviewed: Rav4 awd-5spd

Strength:

Decent comfort
Control layout is good
Ac and heat ok
Toyota reliability

Weakness:

Interior space crampted
Road and engine noise
Transmission geared too low
Tire size is uncommon

Chose the 5spd manual because of the automatic's sluggish performance.

Handles very well and pretty darn good on fuel. They are slightly underpowered ( 120 hp ) though with the 5 spd manual you have the advantage over the automatic.

Since I also have a CRV the interior room is not as good with the Rav4. Unlike the CRV the Rav4 has a center floor consule which is great.

There is lots road and engine noise, could use more dampening material on the floor and firewall.

Even though the rear door swings to the right it has a very large opening which beats the CRV.

The transmission is geared too low when in 5th you find yourself wanting to shift into the next gear. At highway speeds the engine revs high in 5th increasing noise inside the cabin.

The interior controls are layed out nicely, I have all the power options.

The tires are an odd size which causes some hunting to find them and expensive.

Overall I'm pleased with the vehicle and looking forward to lots of dependable use.

Strength:

Too early to say. Only has 144 miles from new and has been at the dealer waiting for parts longer than I have been driving it.

Weakness:

Build quality is potentially fatal. If the wheel had come off at speed on the highway, who knows what could have happened. To be fair, the wheel did not fall off, but it was very, very loose. The lug nuts were tight before anyone asks. Toyota asked the dealer to install parts from a car on the lot but I refused. Although on a new car, they had been driven as demonstrators and had been bolted on once. I had new parts fail - I don't want used ones in their place! This is not a criticism of the dealer in any way - they have been helpful in this. I do have a big problem with Toyota and their quality. This is a potentially fatal problem. Is it just my car or are there others out there?

This is my first experience of a Toyota product, and right now it will definitely be my last. I have owned it a week today and it has now spent more time back at the dealer waiting for parts to fix it than I have driving it. Those parts are the left rear wheel bearing assembly which came loose in less that 150 miles. So loose, the wheel would have come right off had I not noticed a squealing noise (brake rotor against dust shroud) and taken it back to Toyota. I have video of this if anyone wants to see it. Its currently a huge file around 6.2MB, but hopefully I can reduce it soon. If the review does not provide a link to my email, I can be reached at lardyboy1001athotmail.com - replace the at with @ - this will cut down on spam hopefully.

Nice interior.

Weakness:

All around poor quality, says a lot for the company.

What a piece of crap. When I first purchased the vehicle it only had 17000 kms on it, I didn't even have it for a day before the engine light came on. It has been nothing but a headache with electrical problems, whiny sound in enging and heater, car is creaking, have to scrape the inside of windows every 10 minutes while winter driving, paint is pealing, and all this with less than 30 000 kms. And of course the dealership was more than happy to unload it on me, but not too happy to see me pull up in their shop. I can't get rid of this hunk of junk fast enough. Please, PLEASE, stay away from chevy. I learned my lesson.

I have owned the 2door version last year for the hardtop with 2wd. Bought it three years ago at ADESA Boston off lease for $6500 with 50K on it. I keep it in Florida and get about 30 MPG. It is like a little pickup and fun to drive. Bought another '96 2 door this year with 70K with 4X4 action for $3800 with every option Toyota offered including a stacking cd. When I was in Europe I see they still sell the RAV 2 door.....would love to own a deisel the offer in Europe that get 40MPG!!!!!!!

Weakness:

Rear door..Would like to see a tailgate/window combo rather than the one piece unit now.

My purchased her RAV4 new oof the lot. It's the basic model with automatic transmisson, A/C, P/S Power Brakes and so forth. To date she has had Zero problems with it, Since she bought it October of last year she has put 22,000 miles on it. As the guy that does all the oil changes on it I can only say that Toyota got it right this time, unlike my 99 Tacomca Truck oil changes on the RAV are a breeze with easy access to both the filter and drain plug without having to pull out the jack. The interior is laid out much like all Toyotas so if you are familar with one, you should have no problem getting use it the RAV. Toyota seems to do a preety good job of placing the controls in a sensible location that allows easy access. My understanding of RAVs is that until the 2004 models most accessories were package add-ons. The 2004 comes standard with the AM/Fm/CD/Cass combo, Power Brakes with traction control and ABS, The Engine has been upgraded to a 2.4l over the old 2.0l which many seem to feel was underpowered. The 2.4l has no problem keeping up with my 03 Saturn V6. Mileage is one of the best of the small suv's 27mpg hwy My wife puts about 300 miles a week back/forth to work and only fills up once a week. Someday I'll calculate her actual mileage. The rear seats can be folded down then folded again and removed completely with very little effort. The cargo space should be able to adapt to most any need. About the only thing I don't like is the rear door swings to the passenger side, I would like to see a split door/window combo rather than the bulky one piece window/door unit. Other than that I have no complaints other than I wished I had bothered to check out the RAVs before buying my Saturn. The Saturn's good but the RAV is better all around.

Strength:

Appearance. Nice size SUV for my needs.

Weakness:

Notorious dash rattle in all RAVS since 2001. Loud engine. Cheap tires. Cheap overall feel, both inside and out. Toyota has not been responsive in fixing the rattle after all of these years -- I do not feel they deserve my loyalty any longer.

I have been a Toyota loyalist until owning this particular RAV. My RAV has the well-documented RAV dash rattle, and it is exasperating. This is no small rattle, mind you.. This is a sharp, loud, clicking, sometimes grinding noise that is worse during cold months. Most frustrating is the fact that my dealer refuses to acknowledge that it is a common problem! I have had my car there on MULTIPLE occasions, have had several TSB's performed, and the noise persists. The car overall seems very "plastic" for a Toyota, quite frankly. The tires are cheap, already needing to be replaced after 25K miles and meticulous attention to rotations. Performance leaves something to be desired, with a less than impressive turning radius and wimpy acceleration, especially if the a/c is on. I am ready to trade the car. I have put up with the rattle long enough! No more Toyotas for me.
