Looks, but it ends there
Weakness:
You nmae it. Major problems are the drivetrain clunks, transmission shifting problems, anti lock brakes funky on bumps and steering noise. Minor ones power windows, window gaskets, rattles and wind noise.198 The more I look into these problems online the more I realize GM is covering up a major problem with this truck. They need to start working with the complaints before we all switch to Ford. I would not recommend this truck or any GM at this point. They are terrible to deal with when you have problems, and wont do a thing to make it right. SO WHEN MY LEASE ENDS ITS FORD AND NEVER ANOTHER GM PILE OF SCRAP. Sad thing is I was a loyal chevy man until GM BONED ME. THINK BEFORE YOU BUY THIS TRUCK, UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND YOUR TIME IN A RENtAL CAR Similar Products Used: 1993 Chevy truck was a gem |

The best vehicle we have in my family and chevy is what im sticking w/. SILVERADOS ALL THE WAY>
Weakness:
First of all I got it sold to me with Firestone tires not the recalls but still the are firestone. And yes the door on the passenger side is harder to close for some odd reason. Lets see......um....there is one noise but i think its from my mud gaurds i put on that arent really on. nevermind. I would recommend this truck to anyone who needs a reliable vehicle which is comfy, roomy, good looking, guy magnet...etc. unless u are a guy then well its good for picking up women i think guys that drive silverados are sexy hehe well most of them well gotta go if u wanna see mine its at http://hometown.aol.com/xfirepuppyx/ Similar Products Used: None chrysler sucks dont ever buy one. |

Strength:
The truck looks great. The 350 has a lot of power.( more than my sisters 2000 5.3L) I have 77,000 miles on it and it has only been in a couple times. It is the best truck I have ever owned. It gets 19mpg at 65mph and 16-17 at 75mph. The truck even got 12mpg pulling a 5,000lb trailer with the a/c on.
Weakness:
The right door squeaks on the weather strip. The brakes on these trucks are not is good as on my 92 chevy. (The anti lock brakes are very sensitive)I have a slight clunk at upshift (sometimes) but only under light acceleration. The dealer tells me it is normal and although I still questio them it has been 75,000 miles since I had it in and I haven't had any problem. There is a slight clunk in the rear of the truck when going over small bumps. This is the ends of the over load springs tapping against the main leaf. The dealer can order rubber tips for the overloads. This is also a problem on new trucks and can be fixed under warranty.Other than the brakes I don't consider these much of a weakness and even the brakes perform adequately they are just more sensitive than the older trucks. I would recomend this truck to anyone.I read the reviews about the 99 and 00 chevy's and I bet if you read reviews on fords and dodges you would get just as many complaints! I admit chevy never had a good deisel(until now!) Look out dodge and ford !!! I have had 1,600lbs in the bed and the truck barely squatted.(This truck has the heavy duty package which includes an extra leaf spring and a 14 bolt corporate rear diff)I would strongly recomend this option because my 1992 does't have it and what a difference it makes.I have never had only one problem since the pinion bearing was replaced at 3,000 miles. The alternator went out at 34,000 miles. I can't think of any reason not to buy one other than how sensitive the brakes are and that it a matter of personal judgment.I know I will never get rid of mine! When I am ready to buy a new one I will still keep mine. Since the new body style came out these trucks are reasonably priced. If you are going to buy one shop around, every manufacter has lemons and some people abuse them. Look the truck over well, drive it and listen and feel carefully and if in doubt tell them you want to have a mechanic look it over. If they refuse walk away and don't look back there are plenty of good trucks out there. This review is only on 1 truck the next review may be from someone with a lemon although I know 5 people with the same truck and the same luck so go out and shop and you'll find a good one Similar Products Used: 1992 chev ext.cab 4x4.( my 98 has more power) This truck has 170,000 miles on it and the only thing major ever donr to it is the tranny.(AT 160,000 MILES !) 1989 fullsize blazer,1986 chevy 4x4,1976 3/4 ton ,1972 1/2 ton, All very good trucks. |

Strength:
Beautiful truck. Exceptional interior room and comfort. Great selection of options available. Beyond looks, there is not much good to say.
Weakness:
This truck has been in the shop multiple times. It has all the squeeks and rattles that others have mentioned. The driver's window jumped the track and the motor failed. But, the biggest problem has been with the unknown clunking noise, worse on cold starts, heard when you turn the wheel sharply to the left at times, and sometimes when going over bumps or up hills. We had multiple people listen and try to locate it. After months of progressively getting worse, the service department finally figured it out...every bearing in the front end was bad!!! Looked like someone dumped sand in there and ground it up. Of course, Chevrolet denies that there are any problems with this truck!!! (Yeah, Right!!) The service department had to ride and listen multiple times, and the sound had to be continuous before they would even take it in and look...that's when they found the problem and tried to fix it, but it is already doing it again... BEWARE THE UNKNOWN CLUNKING NOISE>>>>>>> This truck has 9,000 miles on it, but sounds and acts like it has 209,000. If you have the unknown clunking, make your service department check your front end/bearings. My uncle just had to have his replaced as well, in the truck that he bought at the same time. Plenty of leg room for a 6'2" person. Performance and gas mileage are more than acceptable. Handling is tight and responsive. Push button 4x4 and auto 4x4 are great. Center floor console storage is large enough to lose an elephant in it.
Weakness:
I have not had it long enough to find any weaknesses except for me wanting to drive it more. Great rebates and incentives from the dealer. The help at Lou Fusz was exceptional. I don't care much for the UP FRONT PRICING though. It takes all the fun out of buying a new truck if you cannot barter the price a little bit. Similar Products Used: 94 Chevy S10 extended cab w/114,000 miles was my prior driver. How do the two compare? They both have Chevrolet on them and that's were it stops. It's like I'm driving a Caddy now. |

Great Looks.
Weakness:
MANY PROBLEMS. Lets see transmission shifting problems hard shifts, doesnt shift on hills sometimes, slams in gear on rapid acceleration. Dash feels like it is falling apart, steering column has bad vibration noise. Windows or doors leak air and make annoying sound. Bumpers rust. Brakes are questionable at best. Gas pedal hard to push, gas mileage very poor. Window broke in drivers door, now door is vibrating and rattling. Gave up taking it in will ride out lease and then get a ford. I would not recommend this truck. GM needs to admit the truck is bad and take care of the consumer. Similar Products Used: Had a 96 chevy truck was great, hate to say it but ford and dodge are better now. |

Too few to mention.
Weakness:
Severe, chronic vibration in the steering wheel. On the third attempt the dealership found the leak in the steering column assembly that controlled the power steering. It sounded like a bucket of crickets when the sw was turned to the left. Squeaking/shifting noise going over uneven pavement. We paid about $25,000. We did a lot of research and still ended up with a lemon. The maintenance manager hides when we show up. I am disappointed at dealer service anywayso this instance hasn't helped. 500 vehicles can come off the production line the same day and only one vehicle have these types of problems, so I wouldn't tell someone not to buy one. My concern is that once a vehicle with major problems is purchased, the customer should be able to receive superb service to correct the deficiencies. I would like to hear from ANYONE who has done the Lemon Law paperwork. Did you get the satisfaction the law is supposed to give? We are preparing the paperwork to be submitted and we won't rest until we get a new vehicle. Please let me know if you can. Similar Products Used: 1984 Dodge - We just sold it to buy this truck. What a bad move!!!!!! I currently drive a 96 Mazda. I love that truck. No problems. |

Very powerful, rides high
Weakness:
Small noises, but nothing major. Paid $33,000. So far, so good. The size of the truck makes it hard to get in to, sidesteps will solve this problem though. I'd rather it be too high than too low. Similar Products Used: 93 Ford. It can't compare to a Chevy |

1500 LS V8 Extended cab-short bed
Strength:
Looks great, drives great, very powerful, extremely comfortable. V8 has incredible pick up on highway. Great stereo system. Love the 4-doors, much more convenient when have back-seat passengers. AC is exceptional, heater too, although being in Houston, we've only used it once.
Weakness:
No rear window defrost-not that much of a problem. Gas mileage, but w/ a V8, it's to be expected, just sucks w/ gas prices as high as they are. Had it in the shop 3 times in the first 3 months we had it. Problem was a piece of plywood stuck in the frame (NO CLUE how that happened). Service dept. didn't find it the first time, since then (few wks ago) haven't had a single problem. Paid about $32,000, got a great deal. Ours has the bigger wheels and tires than standard LS, also a V8. I couldn't be happier with the truck, I was getting pretty frustrated when we had to have it in the shop every couple of weeks. But, as I said, the problem was with the Service dept., didn't find it the first time, said the wood was stuck up in the frame pretty high. I adore the truck and intend on having it for many, many years. I would highly recommend it to ANYONE. I've heard from other truk owners complaints about noises and rattles from other owners, but so far I haven't noticed them. Guess you need to realize it's a TRUCK and not a luxury car, and that's pretty much the norm-you're going to have a few more creaks and rattles with a pick-up, they're made with power in mind and probably won't drive AS smooth and noiselessly as a sedan. Although my Silverado drives incredibly smooth and is extremely comfortable. HUGE stamp of approval! Similar Products Used: 1990 C/K extended cab-uncle's truck-I've always loved it, one of the reasons we got the 2000. |
