Nice truck that could have been a great truck but failed due to GMs quality control. 12000 miles still mechanically sound but makes me wonder. Similar Products Used: 2-84 S-10 pickups |

Z-71 5.3L Ext. Cab
Strength:
-Fresh body styling
Weakness:
-The rear window on the right does not seal completely when closed and therefore creates an annoying wind disturbance This is definitely an exclusive truck. The 30k for the Z-71 Ext. Cab silverado separates it from most of the fords. This may be why it has such high value is that it was built with a higher standard and has not become a cheap, trendy truck like the f-150 has. It is a different market and fulfills the consumer with ample power, space, driveability. It is undeniably the ultimate fullsize truck and demands respect for the Chevy Bowtie emblem. Chevy Silverado X-Cab
Strength:
A very good looking truck. Very roomy and comfortable inside, especially the rear seat in the extended cab. Our 3 kids are very comfortable in the back. Fit and finish are excellent. Very comfortable truck to drive, especially at hwy speed. Strong A/C. Very strong 5.3, 270 hp V-8, tons of torque at low RPM yet a very quiet engine. This truck / engine is faster than most cars and passing is a breeze. Great stereo, especially for a truck. Very solid and strong braking. In 10 months not one repair or problem. It's a pleasure to drive.
Weakness:
The third door closes hard and there's no door ajar light. Minor wind noise from the back X-cab windows. Chevy can keep the auto locks and alarm. I can lock my own door. With the 5.3 V-8 this truck needs the locking differential to get the torque to the ground. Be careful, its easy to really get rolling along without realizing your speed. The 2000 had a better price than '99's with more availablity. Got a $3,000 discount. Would absolutely recommend this truck, especially the X-cab. You'll love the room. My sister bought one on my recommendation and loves it. Similar Products Used: Ford, Dodge and Mazda. Much better. More X-Cab room. |

the fact that i may be able to trade the dung heap in for a ford one day!!
Weakness:
where do i begin? in the first month...off the lot, truck pulled to the right and hesitated frequently while cruising at highway speeds with the a.c. on. three to four months out, the windshield leaked and had to be repaired twice while the right rear window blasted in a 747 wind noise. month four or five, produced a nice diesel-like ticking upon start-up, as well as a loose clunking middle stearing column. let me tell you boys, i know every damned serviceman at the winter park chevy place on a first name price paid (aggravation+ frustration+ stress+ time+ 32,000.00= 2 much) Similar Products Used: 1990 ford f150 4x4 lariat for ten wonderful years.....sniff....sniff |

Weakness:
I wish the 5.3L had more low end torque like Ford's 5.4, but quite honestly this V-8 hasn't left me in a spot looking for more power. I paid 1% over invoice (right around 30k). From my experience so far, I would highly recommend the Silverado. Gas mileage so far has been on the low end of reports (15mph whether it be highway or city) which is a bit frustrating, but I didn't buy this sucker to be a gas miser. I love to listen to that dual exhaust when the revy 5.3 gets after it. This really is a great truck and I hope to keep it around for quite some time. Everything else I would not recommend this truck to anyone. Nothing sucks like chevy trucks. I should have learned that from my new one. Fords are so much cheaper, and they are so much more reliable. I have been having problems with this ever since the first day. Even when we went for a test drive, the dealer had a problem shifting the gears. I should have learned from that. I have taken it back repetedly to the dealer, and they seem dissapointed to see me every time. It isn't my fault they sell junk and then don't want to stand behind it. I am going to sell this truck at my first option. Please, all potential buyers out there, DO NOT purchase one of these trucks. I have had the worst problems with them (squeeks, tranny, doors not shutting completly), and it is not worth the money or trouble of getting one. Fords are much better and are very cheap. Silverado 4x4 Ext Cab
Strength:
The 5.3 Vortec towes my 23' trailer with ease. I was able to tow my trailer during a test drive using a 2000 Chev Silverado 4x4 ext cab and a Dodge Ram 1999 quad 4x4 with a 5.9 liter. The Dodge with the a/c on pulled the trailer 61 mph up a 6% grade. The same climb using the Chev 5.3 Vortec with the a/c on pulled the hill at 80 mph. If you have a family, the 4th door will come in handy. My children were able to get in and out of the Chev much easier than the Dodge Quad Cab.
Weakness:
Too soon to tell. I paid $28,800 (approx. $800 over invoice) My truck has every option but power seats, (Power seats don't work well for my father who is built like a football player). Similar Products Used: Refer to strengths |

Chevy Silverado 1500 Ext.Cab
Strength:
Smooth ride, Suspension, Lots of Room, passing power, and it's looks rival any of the other three, also it's quiet as can be, smooth idle. 4.3L V6 Auto Trans. 2wd Ext. Cab
Weakness:
Of course, fourth door would be nice but not a nessesity, a slight squeak from the dash but hardly noticeable. I paid $19,000.00 for this truck. It was a 1999 model with mostly 2000's on the lot. Best vehicle I've ever owned, ranking over my previous Honda Accord & Jeep Cherokee. I guess there are obviously some bad Chevy's out there, but not mine. I've had it for 5 months and no problems, smooth as a Cadillac. Most of the bad columns come from people having the 4.8 & 5.3 V8's. I got news people, unless you intend to tow a whole lot or you need 4wd, the 4.3L V6 is powerful and proven performer including very reliable from past years. The engine also has the same benefits as the V8's: Vortec Engine, Sequential Fuel Injection, 100,000 mile spark plugs and cooling system, etc... I LOVE my truck and am very pleased with it, don't get discouraged by other posts, This is a quality truck and I would highly recommend it. If you don't get the Chevy, buy Toyota, but what ever you do, don't get the Dodge. Similar Products Used: Nissan Frontier, & Mazda B-Series |
