Strength:

This truck is the sharpest truck that I have seen yet except the Dodge 4X4. I used to have a 93 V6 Silverado and this truck is uncomparable. I am a Chevy man and will always be as long as things go this well in the future. It is Roomy, Fast, Powerful, anything that you can ask for.

Weakness:

Being an XT cab it has a hard time climbing huge hills but that is the only time that it has been mudding. It is just too nice to do that to it.

This is the nicest truck that I have ever driven. I would definetly get a couple more if I had the money. I strongly recommend this.

Strength:

Comfortable interior, good ride, good gas mileage. Solid truck

Weakness:

Very cheap looking dash

I've got about 5000 miles on this 1/2 ton extended cab pickup. So far we've been very pleased. The ride is surprisingly good and the seats are very comfortable. The premium sound system - CD and tape player - is great. The back doors make entry into the rear seat very easy and the rear is comfortable for a "full size" adult.

Power with the small V-8 is adequate. You can't smoke the tires but the truck goes down the road pretty well and keeps up with traffic. I'm getting about 16mpg in town and 19 on the highway and that's not too bad for a full size V-8 truck.

By the way - the "vibration" in the brakes that many people gripe about is actually the anti-lock brake system doing its thing.

Plenty of power, nice looking design..

Weakness:

Well....
I have had to go back to the dealer several times.. Wind noise (rear window recall on x-cab..), clunking steering column (another recall for the lower steering shaft.), rough idle (dealer contends that idle is smooth.), horn didn't work consistently (that one got fixed), speedometer reporting higher than actual speed (delaer said 5 m.p.h. is within tolerance - how about the accruing of mileage pertaining to warranty??), transmission chirping from stop (yet another recall to change the transfer case fluid).. The list actually goes on. The thing that gets me is that GM won't even reimburse me for a rental vehicle while these recalls are being performed. They contend that the vehicle has to be in service longer than one day to get the reimbursement. These recall issues were not my fault, they were Chevrolet's fault.. Why should I have to pay to rent a car while they fix what should have been right out of the factory?? I am debating whether or not to dump this truck, and move on to something else.. I traded a '93 Silverado in for this one, and it had almost 200k on it.. I never had hardly any trouble with that one... Hmmmm.....

I paid 30,300 for the LT. I would recommend a defect free version...

I have the ext cab w/3rd door. 3rd door a god-send. Rides very well. The 5 liter has good power. Average 18mpr(90%commuting 50 miles/day to work). Room for 6! Try that in a Tahoe!

Weakness:

Occasional squeak from 3rd door/ whole cab creaks on an uneven incline! As I've seen in other posts, I had trouble w/rough shift from 1st-2nd. Had trans. flui/filter replaced at 35000. No further problems cuurently. Gonna go broke pumping gas at $1.60/gallon!!!!!

Got it July 98.-amidst the strike! Was $24,000. I would recommend this model year.Wanted a 99-but judging from some of the horror stories I've read, I'm glad I didn't get a 99!

Strength:

Great engine! More power than previous yrs 350ci and more power than any other trucks standard, puny engine. Auto-trac, Tow/haul mode, power seats, tranny cooler, console, overhead storage, large rear seat, great handling.

Weakness:

Not high enought for me :)

This truck wasnt named MotorTrend truck of the yr('99)for nothing! This truck absulutely rocks!
The ride is a little rough, but i expected that with the Z-71 package. I like the way it stays in gear a little longer in tow mode. It really helps when towing my boat up steep inclines.
It wasnt cheap (30k), but oh well.
I love all trucks, and to me a well built truck is a valuable peice of equiptment. I drove many trucks before settling on this one, and now after having purchased it im glad i did.
I'll start by mentioning the one thing that really made me decide on Chevrolet, solid build. I really had a tuff time deciding between the Dodge and the Chevrolet before i actually drove the Dodge. OMG, was this thing put together with scotch tape or what? The 3rd door feels like its made out of thin aluminum, and doesnt feel like it even closes properly (both my freinds Dodges feel the same). I did like the Ford, that is a great looking truck. But just before i actually made my mind up, my freinds, brothers new Ford 4X4's transfer case went kapoot.
I love my Chevy. The interior is great, feels well built, nothing rattles, and everything is well within reach and is comfortable.
Ill end by saying that this past October at a fishing tournament on Big Shell Beach on the Texas coast i pulled 2 dodges, a toyota, and a ford out of the same sand i was traveling on. Who cares if they had better tires than i did :)

Good Looks, Powerful.

See Below

Actually this is my dad's truck but he doesn't have a computer so I thought I would enter this for him. The new 99 Silverado has been very troublesome. Wiring harness problem within the first week, truck wouldn't even start. Same problem happened again a couple of weeks latter. loose steering linkage, loose widow slide, rattles from rear seat. Very poor quality for a $28,000 truck! Service after the sale also poor. This seems to be typical from GM. I would't buy one of these truck if you plan on keeping it past the lame 36,000 mile warranty!

The 5.3 engine, The Autotrak 4-wheel is fantastic. Great interior, and comfortable seats. Huge extended cab (buddy has a brand new F-350 ext. cab and he says all the time how my truck is so much more comfortable)

Weakness:

wind noise.

I was going to wait for the new 2000 Tahoe but after I test drove the Z71 ext. cab I couldn't justify spending $7000 more for the Tahoe. I have all the space and features I need. My truck is an LS with leather trim. The sticker was $32,083. I have every option except locking diff and trailer pkg. I have the 5.3 motor and this thing hauls. I have also done some engine mods--I added a Gibson dual catback exhaust, a K&N air filter, and a Jet Performance Stage 2 Module. This truck really hauls. I would tell everyone to get one, with all the snow we have been having up here in NY lately, this truck has been unstoppable. A big plus I forgot to mention are the brakes. The new trucks have the 4-wheel disc brakes and they are great. Truck stops on a dime. Ride quality is great, better than my '97 Tahoe was. Just a great truck.

Strength:

I find the 5.3L engine powerful and very responsive. So far the best damn running Truck i ever had. I'm 6'7" and i have plenty of room and head space in the front seat area and while sitting in the extend cab area i also have a spacious amount of leg room. The inner aspects of the truck could not be better. I have read that some people have problems with lose dashboards and such, but thankfully i have not had that experiance yet. Last but not least i got the sportside body style and i,m glad i did, because it dresses up a otherwise dull body style.

Weakness:

So far i only have what mighnt be one problem and that problem is it feels like it shifts to hard when going from first to second. I need to keep a sharp eye on this to see if it becomes more of a problem!

So far really can't complain. Is everything and more in what i wanted in a extend cab 4X4. My brother liked it so much he bought himself one as well. The only down side is that it is a bit pricey, but in todays day and age nothing gets any cheeper.

270hp 5.3L V8 does a good job towing, our 19ft boat, motor and trailer. Extended cab is roomy, and split bench seat allow driver good accessibility to back seat. LS Model provides a good accessory package.

Weakness:

Fourth door would be nice(will be on year 2000+ models). Can't turn off running lamps. Wind noise can be annoying at times.

2WD Extended cab; 5.3L V8 get good gas mileage. Sticker price was $26,200. After reviewing similar Ford and Dodge trucks I was drawn back to Chevy. My S-10 was good and the Silverado is better. The LS package provided all the essentials. The extended cab is very roomy, and the back seat is a lot easier to reach with the split bench seat. The long wheel base rides well. Overall, an excellent truck. I plan to get many years of trouble free driving out of this truck, like my old Chevy. My father liked mine so much he cancelled his order for a Dodge Ram after seeing mine.

Strength:

Great looks,comfortable seats,decent stereo,good handling,lots of interior room

Weakness:

Serious lack of power(454),terrible gas mileage(8 mpg avg.),untrustworthy dealerships,unknowledgeable service dept's

In my opinion Chevrolet couldn't pass emissions in 1995 with it's 454 so it leaned it out so bad that it cannot run smoothly(My dealer's service dept. calls it "lean idle misfire" and say's that it is normal for that truck ) I also have to keep my foot to the floor to tow my 3500lb. trailer over a mild mountain pass while being passed by Ford's and Dodge's. If those things could be fixed and Chevrolet would stand up for it's product this would be an unbeatable truck.Unfortunately in my case they have decided that earning my repeat business after owning numerous Chevy products is not worth striving for.(I have been back to the dealer 9 times in 6 months of ownership and even talked with the owner but have gotten nothing but the runaround} For this reason I wouldn't recommend a Chevrolet product.
