Strength:
Best Extended Cab backseat room in class. Powerful 3.8 engine, is smooth in acceleration. One Touch 4WD select and Tow transmission lockout. Clean interior design, while the outside is rather plain the inside is a delight for driving.
Weakness:
None so far. Reviewed and tested Ford, Dodge and Chevy pickups prior to purchase. For the money and features the Chevy was the best overall value. I was not expecting such a smooth ride from a 4WD pickup. The extended cab space has saved many a day out shopping, largest space of any pickup I tested. Similar Products Used: None |

Roomy,Roomy,Roomy seats are comfortable for long all day driveing trips. The engine is really powerfull, It has A lot of get up and go!
Weakness:
The trany has been nothing but problems, It skips, slips and shifts really hard. The dash board rattles over the littlest of bumps, the day time running lights are A pain in the but. And finally the lack of A 4th door that Ford, Dodge and even Toyota have rounds out the short list of things that get me stired up!(4th door is A option, standard on the other three!) In summery, I will never buy another Silverado AGAIN!!! The truck ran me $27,940 way to much money to pay for all the problems so far. When the next time for A truck comes around It will probley be A F-series that I get, A couple of my friends have them and they love them. I tried to be different and I am paying for it, so don't make A 28,000 thousand dollar mistake like I did buy A different full size truck.... Strength:
good interior ergonomics, excellent headlights, very good ride for a 4X4
Weakness:
Chevrolet service...see my review below! First off, I don't think i'll ever buy a new GM product again. This was my first new vehicle, a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 with the 4.8 V8. Since the first week after purchase the transmission has had problems with rough shifting, shifting back and fourth between gears, and not shifting out of first. I have been to my dealer approximately 7 times in 8 months for service, each time leaving without the problem being solved! My dealer tells me "we'll call you when we get your parts" only for me to never hear from them again. I had to call my GM regional service manager on my previous visit due to lack of service by my dealer. My truck has also suffered a defective windshield, rough idle, and demon-posessed HVAC controls. none that comes to mind. Well, after 10 years and 155,000 miles, I don't have one complaint about my Chevy truck. It still runs like a top and looks like new too. This is my personal truck, not a work truck, but I have used it for some hauling or light towing. I have the 5.7 engine. Other than usual wear and tear items like brakes and rotors, and belts, the only thing on the engine that I replaced is the starter! Everthing else is original--battery, water pump, alternator, radiator, hoses. People can't believe I still have the original battery, but I do. Now I'm starting to shop for a new truck, and it will be a new Silverado Extended Cab 4X4. I like the styling of the Ford, but I don't trust Ford's quality (in the long run), and I've had bad luck with Dodge too. Oh, I did have one problem with my truck, and it was under warranty, the speedo was acting up. |

Strength:
powerful engine, nice seats (I have the bench), good views, excellent gas milage (I average 19.3 mpg 80%/20% Highway/city)
Weakness:
plastic dash is a little cheesy, no 4th door (there will be in the 2000+ models) I spent 18 months researching this truck. I decided on the Chevy mainly coz of: Similar Products Used: none (my 1st truck), but I test drove dodge, Ford, & Toyota too) |

Strength:
Extreme power. There is no competition. Very roomy, handles like a sports car. Amazing for a 4x4. Blows Dodge and Ford 2x4's away pretty badly.
Weakness:
Mostly minor problems due to first year bugs. Seats could have been designed better. Transmission likes to hunt between 3 and 4 on moderate inclines at 45-55MPH. The most powerful truck on the road today. Paid 29,500 for an LS Autotrack 4x4 with the towing package, 5.3L, and a load of options. Similar Products Used: 1979 GMC pickup |

Strength:
The 5.3L is awesome. The ride is smooth, I can take most RR crossings at 50. Great towing....Actually, you name it, and its good.
Weakness:
The auto headlights on the 99 are annoying sometimes. I am going to get that fixed. Paid around $26,500 at Lawrence-Marshall in Hempstead, TX. That place is amazing. It is the biggest dealership I have ever seen. With the amount of cars they sell you are going to get a fair if not great price. This truck is awesome! This truck does great both on and off road. If you have to tow anything the only thing you will have to worry about is if your drink is cold enough. This is a great truck and I have had no problems with it. The 4-wheel disk brakes have outstanding preformance for trucks. |

Strength:
The truck is extremely roomy with an engine (5.3L) more than capable of doing the job. The ride and handling are great and the positioning of the controls are excellent. Its definitley a modern truck.
Weakness:
To many squeaks and rattles! I've been to the dealership so many times that I've lost count and they know me by name. The dashboard has been removed and worked on for rattles, which they explained was do to poor installation at the factory. Thats assuring. Bolts in the drivers door have come loose and had to be replaced, the rear end has been worked on for a clanking noise, still not fixed. the backseat or third door, I can't tell which, squeaks on uneven pavement. The engine compartment light has been replaced due to a faulty switch, body molding has been replaced and the rubber bumpers on the gas lid were missing. And I've lately noticed the trans shifting very hard and a movement, not a vibration, of something in the steering column usually in turns and braking. I guess I'm going back to the dealership, again. My truck listed for $29,500, eqquiped with 4 wheel drive, extended cab (3rd door), full power options (windows, locks, mirrors, etc.), and compact disk stereo. My feelings on any vehicle you pay that much for is one, it should atleast be able to make it past the first year without going back to the dealer, and two, the problem should be fixed with as little inconvienence to the customer as possible. Neither of these has happened with my Chevy and I'm very dissappointed. Let me end by saying had there been no problems with rattles and missing parts, and now it seems mechanical problems this would be a top notch truck.
