Model Reviewed: Dakota Quad Cab SLT+ 4.7L 5-speed 2WD

Strength:

Everything!! 4.7L V8, the Quad cab, quiet inside, smooth ride, good handling and the best looking truck on the market! Have you looked along the side of a Dakota, from front to back?? There aren't any other trucks (or even cars) on the market that have such smooth and well crafted lines throughout the entire body of the vehicle.

Weakness:

None. For those who complain about fuel economy: read the review!

What a truck!! This vehicle offers the best of both worlds...room for 6 inside and the hauling capabilities requried for normal daily use. The styling is second to none, our truck turns heads everywhere we go. It really isn't a "compact" truck, it's closer to a full size and has more room inside than our previous Ford F150 Supercab. Our truck is Patriot blue with two-tone silver and it looks great. The QC has tons of room inside, we have 2 children aged 13 and 11. The ride is quiet and smooth. The 4.7L V8 is literally awesome!! There is nothing like the throaty roar of a V8 both under the hood and from the tail pipe. The alloy wheels with the upgraded tires should be standard as they complete the look of the truck. The 5-speed is easy to shift. The fit and finish is good, a few minor squeeks but easily fixed by the dealer. The rear doors open nearly 90 degrees which makes loading and unloading extremely easy. While the box is just over 5 feet long it's plenty of space for normal everyday use. It's similar to those who buy an SUV with no intention of ever going off-roading...the Dakota's box is big enough for those who don't need to haul sheets of plywood or drywall or lumber. The snapless soft tonneau cover is slick and easy to fasten. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone and I would also strongly recommend Oxford Dodge for those people in the London area. Some people's reviews complain about gas mileage but I'm not sure what the complaint is...it's a truck! All trucks have approximately the same ratings. If you want better gas mileage then get a wimpy 4-banger. If you want a truck that looks great, is versatile, powerful and gets normal mileage (for a truck) then look no further than your closest Dodge dealer

Strength:

Looks fairly nice when it's not in the shop.

Weakness:

Everything, especially the service at the dealerships. Poor reliability, horrible gas mileage, paint is falling off, rough shifting, constantly shifts but supposidly this is normal?? Idles rough, shakes the entire truck and almost stalls, has stalled a few times. I guarantee it will not be running by the time I have it paid off!

I am very disappointed with this truck and with the service at the dealerships, I've tried several hoping to get better service. It was towed twice within the first 3 months, doors were not painted on the inside, took 10 times to the body shop to have this fixed but that is now all falling off. I need to have the ball joints and tie rods replaced at only 70,000kms, never been off road. Poor gas mileage. I did get the V8 but I'm lucky if a tank of gas lasts me 400kms! The A/C runs all the time, even when the heat is on, $50 later I was told this is normal operation. Distrubiter was set wrong from factory, $100 later or they would have voided my warranty, would not pay for it. Had to have a transmission flush at 20,000km before they would even look at the rough shifting, supposidly nothing wrong. Took it in several times for this but never any fault found. If I take it in now, off warranty, I guarantee they will find something seriously wrong with it. I was always told it was in my head. Tried to sell it but no luck. DO NOT BUY A DODGE!

Strength:

Looks sporty nice color(metallic blue) good handling engine runs great when everything ok many aftermarket parts small and easy to maneuver good size trunk for small car stiff suspension feels like you have more control heat is like an oven no probs with a/c which is very very cold

Weakness:

Inner oil leak white smokes frequently high idle and sluggish in cold weather feel every bump in this thing brakes go quick always wondering whats next?

I first bought this car because i went to many car shows with hot neons with aftermarket parts. This is a great looking car after there is aftermarket parts and it is also fast after you add a few things to the engine...however there are certain problems which i endured that have made me decide to upgrade to something more reliable. You never know whats gonna happen with this car

Like the looks of the R/T

Weakness:

No cab room go for the extended cab R/T My 2002 didnt have chrome wheels Dealers says thats the way it is.

Still no luck with Chryslers. From the factory they didn't polish the cam shaft so at 4800 miles constant knock. Well this make the bearings also go out. STAR would not replace this engine, only added new parts and pasted it back together

Dakota2000

Strength:

Great power.Awsome pick up. You can pass whenever you want. Great towing capabilities. A 4500 lb boat that you can tow at 70 and not even know it is there. Low Maintenance and Great gas milage. Lots of power for the buck.

Weakness:

Limited cab size (I, have a single cab)And I, have to change the spark plugs every 150 K miles or so.

Love my Dodge. My Dodge has been the life force of my life. I, commute 140 miles a day and make frequent trips of 150 miles or greater with my saliling club, Pulling a 4500 lb boat. This truck has been fantastic. With the old 318 dodge engine I, get 18 to 19 miles per gallon. And can out pull any Chevy or Ford on the market. Imports don't even come close. When the competition sits there and spins their wheels My Dakota just leaves. My Dakota has 268 k miles and still has 130 lbs compression. Does not burn oil. And the AC still works. The 318 is the most awsome engine that Dodge has ever built.233 hp and 18 miles per gallon. Why would Dodge ever change.268K miles and this truck still burns rubber in second. I, gues Jeep has a better idea.Less power more fuel consumption. Besides Mechanics have to make a living too.
