Strength:

Solid, Dependable transporation. Looks great, and holds a great paint finish

Weakness:

Blind Spots on the Front

Overall...the dodge has out-performed all other makes I have had. I am very pleased with my Dodge.
I have a V-6 engine, and I get 17 miles to the gallon, which is fantastic for a long wheel base pickup truck.

Model Reviewed: Dodge Ram 2500 Quad V10 4x4

Strength:

Power, Performance, Solid mechanical build, Great looks.

Weakness:

Gas Mileage (Trade off for a V10), Paint quality, Interior cosmetics

This is no. 3, first was a 95 1500 4x2 extended cab (Emerald Green), second was a 98 1500 4x4 Quad (Emerald Green), and now the 2500, also Emerald Green. I absolutely love these trucks!

Pros: Absolute solid construction throughout. I've been through the entire vehicle, engine compartment, rear/front axles, under carriage, interior etc. Solid! V10 puts out 300Hp stock. Very powerful and quick to respond. Steering and braking are excellent.
The new location of the cup holder is an absolute plus. Small thing I know, but it used to be located at the top on the dash and I have had a couple 32oz drinks go the opposite direction when cornering.
For a 2500 it rides very smooth. (Compared to other trucks I have ridden in) Most people make the mistake of comparing the ride to cars. Not. These are trucks! Although I will say the 4x2 1500 I had before had a VERY smooth ride. (For all you car people looking to convert).

Add-ons:
Westin Platinum step bars are a simple to put on with no drilling. Extremely solid.
Dual exhaust sounds incredible. Great for the rush hour traffic intimidation factor. ;)
JL Audio center cushion mount Stealthbox sounds incredible and is extremely easy to install.

Beefs: With all three trucks I have noticed minor issues with the quality of the paint job. Intrepids and Stratus' do not appear to have these issues. I've looked very closely at these vehicles. I can only describe it as, someone forgot to wipe the vehicle clean of debris before painting. Many small paint "bumps" typically around the tailgate and lower doors running the full length of the truck. Very irritating. Recently some paint flaked off my 2500 between the lower running boards and drivers door. Looked as if something was on the vehicle when the paint was still wet and then removed. Some paint also came off the passenger side rear quarter. My dealership took very good care of me on this issue however and had the affected areas re-painted.

Plastic trim used around the lower portion of the seats is very flimsy. I have replaced cracked panels twice in the previous trucks. None as of yet in the 2500, but I already have two spares. One for each side.
Plastic around steering column is almost a joke. A thief could literally rip it off with one hand. Thicker plastic and a few more bolts would be beneficial.
Gas mileage. Ouch! With the V10 broken in after 5-6k miles, gas mileage is at 11.1 according to the onboard computer. Up from 8.6 during the first few months I had it. However, I knew this when I ordered the truck. In fact the only reason I ordered the 2500 was specifically for the V10. Fords V10 is lacking about 30Hp and another 100 cu in or so on the block.
Wish I had ordered leather. Oh well.
Wish they had a four door like the Ford Superduty crew cab. If Ford ever come out with a bigger gasoline engine, my thought may wonder to a Super Duty 250 SLT.?

Issues: The 98 4x4 had a 5.9L V8. I only had this truck for about 5 months before ordering the 2500. The engine had issues when idling which drove me absolutely nuts. It had a tendency to sputter, borderline clattering and had a bad vibration to it. Almost as if the engine mounts were bad. It had also cut out on me a couple times while sitting at stop lights. The dealership service dept. never found anything wrong with it, and advised that this was the way these engines are. Not. My previous 4x2 also had a 5.9L and it purred like a kitten. Never had an issue with it. The 2500 8.0L also purrs. Definitely not my imagination.

Wrap up: Dodge really needs to resolve the paint issue. It gets under my skin and really irritates me. It will be the one thing pushing me away from the Ram line up when it comes time to trade in. Other than that I love this truck! Service and warranty are exceptional and have proven to take care of me over the last three years over all three vehicles.
Why only four stars? There is no such thing as a perfect vehicle. The closest thing would be to build it yourself to ensure it as done right. All manufactures out there are going to have some kind of quirk to their product line up. Its finding that one vehicle out their that has the least amount quirks. Less quirks = more hair. I have given the highest rating possible before crossing that line of perfection. At least test drive the thing!

Strength:

Nice power for the reg. cab and is enough to out beat my friends 5.9 v8 ex.cab. Great looks and nice drivers seats. Its a sport although i haven't figured out much difference between the reg. rams and the sports. if you know tell me. drives well and out beats fords, but they suck anyways so hey also the dealership has been great to service it.

Weakness:

Valves clank sometimes after i turn it off... to much racing i dont know??? and the converter is making funny nosies but i have heard that they do that so. and the Sh1ty gas mileage even worse cause im flooring it constantly but hey its a sport so its race material.

THis is a great truck, and a nice ride, so if your in to these beast then this is for you, although its not as powerfull as the chevey's, its looks better, i love it when its washed and its a real head turner. Not for someone who doesnt wanna try the v8 engine out though, dont disrespect the dodge family like that. but yes great truck, motor trend doesnt know trucks. no great truck comes from over seas the truck of the year is in my drive way... and thats a dodge.

The dodge boys still have not figured out that there is something called a CREW CAB (that means 4 FULL size doors boys and girls)!!

Best truck/engine combination ever! I will always remember this truck long after it is gone! I will buy another if they offer a CREW CAB.

Strength:

Beautiful Styling. I love the height of the truck. I got leather seats because I thought the cloth looked tacky and I absolutely love them. I realy enjoy the radio/Cd player controls on the steering wheel. The main reasons for my purchase of the Off-road model was because of the sharp rims and the tow hooks on the front.

Weakness:

Gas economy SUCKS! Alot worse than the manufacturer's sticker notes. I average about 10mpg.

There is some strange rattle under my feet. It has done it since I bought it last march 2000. I have yet to bring it up to the dealership. Other than that I absolutely love the truck. It is such a pleasure to drive.

I previously owned a 1996 Dodge Ram Sport XLT Laramie 4x4. The truck treated me great for the first four years and then it was down hill from there. Tranny went out just before 60,000, Stablizer bars went bad and scared me half to death while hitting a bump on the freeway. Paint was bad. Oh well, I still loved the truck dispite it's inconveniences.

every frigging component from bumper to bumper(thats including the bumpers) You name it we had problems with it. Chrysler has spent at least $23,000 on trying to fix this thing and they couldn't so now they have to shell out another 25,000+ to buy it back.

if a dodge truck and a pile of crap went and put on some cologne, the dodge would still come out smelling like crap. The only plus to this truck was the fact that it is so screwed up that chrysler has to buy back the truck for the full purchase price and re-imburse us for everything we put on the vehicle. The arbitrator decision was based on the multiple problems with engine and trans alone. He didn't even need to use the re-occuring problems. The truck was out of service for 40 days out of the last 9 months. Just in case some one is willing to waste $20,000, here is the vin number of the truck to look out for on a used car lot, hopefully you want try a dodge but just in case: 3B7HC13YXXG157980

I can't compare, there is nothing in this world that could be as crappy as this. All my other vehicles are G.M. and not one of them has had problems like this. The lowest mileage vehicle i have is an 87 olds with 182,396 miles and is still going strong. The highest mileage vehicle is a 73 buick that has 513,678 miles on it and is still going to florida and back every winter. Plus multiple trucks that are abused doing farm work that are still going strong. My 85 chevy 1/2 ton has 202,000 miles on it and am still beating the crap out of it. And it has a V-6! That thing has done more work and hauled more crap than a damn semi. Never again will i vear from the General.

Weakness:

Like the gas station a little to much of course what do you expect from a V10, brake tend to be a little noisy.

This has been a great truck, and wouldnt trade it for anything else out there (okay maybe a new Duramax.) I had a good previous experience with my 95 dodge. I liked the comfort in the cab and the ride of the truck. The turning radius blows away the Ford and Chevy. The V10 has plenty of power to tow and is less expensive than the Cummins of course you spend plenty more for gas. Have yet to have any major problems with it and have been very heppy with both the Dodge products I have owned. Always been a Chevy fan, but I have really enjoyed the Ram pickups. Dont like the new Ram design, so it looks like i'm gonna have to stick with this one for a while.

Strength:

Comfortable drive, looks great, sits up high. Haven't had any major problems until recently.

Weakness:

Two weeks after having it the plastic latch on the sliding rear window broke off. Metal would be a little better. Also, the back glass leaks when it rains hard.

85000 miles - had to have every bearing in the rear end replaced at the local dealership. Cost me $900.

87000 - Transmission beginning to slip, and the check engine light came on just yesterday. From reading these reviews I guess I should get ready to shell out another 1-2k, huh?

Gas mileage SUCKS!

I bought this truck because I really liked it's looks, and it drove great. It was a little overpriced, but I really liked the truck. Not long afterward i realized that it was going to cost a small fortune to keep the gas tanks filled.

I haven't had any problems until recently, and they've all seemed to start here all at once. I'm going to have it looked at tomorrow, hopefully it's nothing major.

Other than that it's been a good vehicle.
