Strength:

Space and comfort. Safe because of size and visibility. Scored 4 in crash test for both driver and passenger.

Weakness:

About same gas economy as a full size SUV or pickup. About $10k less than a SUV.

Have had this for three weeks. Kids love it. Lots of room and a ggod value for the money. More functional than a SUV.

I have had a Bravada, Chevy pickup and Subaru Outback. The van lacks 4WD but I only needed it a few days out of the year. The van is big and perforamnce is good with the V-8 and 4 speed auto.

Weakness:

one problem after another and very bad customer service

my van has 32000 miles when I start it the oil pressure is ok then all of a sudden it drops to zero but I haven't run it long enough to see if it comes back up Dodge dealer has had it for a week now and they still haven't told me what is up and they may not cover it because I don't have all my receipts for all my oil changes plus in February they replaced the rear end I just hope it is something simple so I can get it back and trade the piece of junk in

Strength:

Powerful engine Comfortable seating

Weakness:

Poor fuel economy--only averaging about 11 MPG between city and highway

Very pleased with the van. Took it on a major road trip within two weeks of getting it and it performed well. Very comfortable and from my point of view a lot of bang for the buck. We have owned two Dodge mini vans before this purchase--a 1996 short wheel base version and a 1998 Grand Caravan Sport. I wouldn't purchase another Dodge mini-van again. The 1998 model we had was on it's third set of brakes when we turned it in at lease end with 39,000 miles. I complained to the dealer on this...poor design and if you take a look at the vehicle it lurches forward placing a lot of weight on the front end. It could also stand to have 4-wheel disc brakes. The full size conversion van is far superior for about the same amount of money. Plus, you can't beat the TV and VCR.

Strength:

lots of room {keeps kids separated} and hauling. Price, Price. Warranty and solid history. Makes all mini vans look like matchbox cars. Great view{you sit high up on the road}.

Weakness:

No overdrive for V6/ No V8 for short box version. 13-15mpg. Bumpy Ride.

Was looking for a minivan but could not see spending $23000.00+. At the price I got my Ram Van what a bargin and the room is great for kids. Also take the bench seat out and you can transport everything you would with a pick up. Would like to have a V8 but I got the short box version and the V6 is the only option and with no over drive available on V6 it seems that it works very hard at highway speeds. After 17000mi no major problems. Recommend getting powerwindows and definately power mirrors.

Strength:

Solid performance, Price value

Weakness:

Does need plenty of preventive maintainance (as all motor vehicles do).

A nice deal if you practice good maintainance. Change the oil frequently, watch the tire pressure, keep the transmission oil clean and cool (I recommend install a auxillary transmission cooler). I purchased this product used from a dealer and have sinced logged approximately 50,000 miles. There has been some major, as well as minor repairs along the way. Somestimes these repairs were due to owner neglect and sometimes product inefficiency. Overall, it is a good product. Currently, I use it for towing the family Travel Trailer. It does a pretty good job. I would recommend this vehicle for purchase because of it's value pricing and solid performance.

Strength:

Engine and tranny , towing capability . Plenty of room for almost anything . Pretty comfortable on long trips though the foot space is a little cramped due to the tire well .

Weakness:

Slightly bouncy ride , can be hard to park at times , you learn to use your mirrors when you drive these things . Non clear coated paint was a little shakey specially on the roof . Takes forever and a step ladder to wash these things . Takes 3 hours to wax the thing .

Bought new in 1998 as a leftover 97 . Great buy , full size V8 , good towing capabilty which I needed to tow a boat and needed room for kids on long trips . So far very few problems in the 60000 miles . Ate the original tires in 25-30000 miles , cheap Goodyears . Replaced with Goodrich Long Trail TA's and with almost 30000 miles on those they still have half the tread left so I think it was more the cheap tires than the vehicle . Had one problem under warranty which was fixed in which the vehicle was using more oil than it should , they replaced a intake manifold seal of some type which completely fixed the problem . It was a Mark III conversion which I have had very few problems with (good thing they are out of business now) . The front and rear air and heat have worked well with no problems . I do notice some buzzing which sounds like it's coming from the rear end at certain speeds like 55-60 and then at 68-72 mph but it doesn't bother me that much . Ride was kind of bouncy with the original shocks , replaced the fronts at 50000 miles and what a difference that made in the ride and handling , if you have this problem get a good set of Monroe Sensa tracs you'll be glad you did . The engine 5.2 liter is a rock , love this engine . Aminvan was quite a bit more than what I paid for this so what I pay for the extra gas was saved in the original price . Where can get a vehicle that holds 7 people , tows 6000 lbs and gets 18 mpg on the highway . I would buy again . Lot of them on the road around here . Great vehicle for 18000 dollars .

Strength:

Fair mileage in towing. Good power for a 318 (5.2L). Does over the road very comfortably and runs smooth most of the time.

Weakness:

Gas pig, but I would not expect any different. Hesitates sometimes during acceleration right after starting. Overrev protection does not allow speed greater than 87 mph.(but the speed limit here is 70 anyway)

My review below was with 200 miles on this. I now have 6500 miles and the van does run great. Have towed my boat several times with it on 100 mile jaunts. Pulls better than I expected but lacks power during passing with boat as I thought it would. My boat weighs abot 5500 pounds with trailer. Mileage with boat is around 10 mpg (better than the 8 with my f150 PU)and without the boat about 14 mpg doing 80 mph. A bit bouncy but the kids love it and so does the wife. I was going to dump it at the end of the year but with the 7/100000 mile drivetrain warr. I figured I would drive it until I fry the trans. Overall I am happy with it for being a big beast.

Strength:

Powerful, carries heavy loads all day; Transmission shifts well; Parts are cheap and repairs relatively easy; Heater will cook you out of cab.

Weakness:

Brakes aren''t greatest but they work; Stock bucket seats aren''t fun; Wind noise in cab; Steering is a little loose-common for all pre-''94 Dodge vans; Rear end can get whiney (common Dodge thing). Want perfection? Spend more $$$ and buy a Chevy.

I''ve heard a lot of people gripe about their Ram vans, but as a contractor, who''s owned several Dodges-from pickups, to one ton trucks to vans from every decade since the sixties (with everything from sixes to V8s under the hood) one thing I can say about ''em is that they run extremely well when they do run. Our ''91 3500 van is probably one of the best beasts on the road for hauling stuff we''ve ever had. True, it has all the Dodge hallmarks-rough ride, iffy brakes, spartan trim just this side of military-but hey, it''s no different than any other Dodge I''ve ever driven. Motors are a Ram stong suit, and the 360/5.9 V8 in this one is no exception. Bought with 58,000 on it (it was owned by a local utility company), it always starts, runs well, and we work it hard daily. One day recently, we loaded thirty sheets of blueboard into it, and then ran it to the job at 75 miles an hour. Then it was off for a load of cement. After, we backhauled job trash & lumber from another job with it. Just a typical day for this van. In my experience, Dodges have always been, and will continue to be better for work than play. So my advice to those looking for cushy luxury is to go get something else-like a Caddy or Lexus. Gas mileage, at about twelve per gallon average around town, is not this van''s strong suit-but this is probably more due to the fact that it carries tools, hardware and ladders on it''s roof all the time. The tranny is a three speed auto with a lock up converter. The rear end whines like a banshee (typical Dodge noise-gotta love it) and I''d guess it''s ratio is something like a 3.95. Yes we buy a lot of gas compared to your average sedan, but we get a lot of work done cheaply too. If that, and few creature comforts, are for you, then take a chance and get yourself a Ram.

Strength:

16.6 MPG on regular gas no matter where or how fast i drive. Solid in hurricane force wind, even with big stuff on the roof. Love it for long trips, No tire problems: rotate Goodyear Wrangler HTs every 5,000m change oil every 3000, have dealer do major service every 30,000

Weakness:

I have kind of blown up the stero speakers, but still get sound out of them. the light grey carpet stains too much

This van has been terrific! The V6 has been impressive, the automatic transmission is the smoothest I have ever driven, car or truck, I have 122,000 miles on it and never a problem. Love to take seats out to haul firewood or a dead refrigerator, or use roof rack to carry long planks, etc. Handles everything i have ever ask it to do

Overall disatisfied. I want to sell this right away. First time new car buyers nightmare. The finished price ended up being more like $19000. Dealers Suck. Sneaky and dishonest. I have put 20,000 miles on it.
