Strength:

Solid so far, but I only have 200 miles on it. Relatively comfortable.

Weakness:

Gas PIG.Combined milage so far at 9.5 MPG, hopefully it will break in and gain some more. Rides pretty bouncy on the freeway, doubt that will improve much.

Bought the van as a conversion for the family because of deep rebates. Was actually on my way to pick up a Ford F150 Supercrew but rcvd. a call from the dealer on the van. Overall, only 200 miles on it, it is fair to good,a few items did not work like the alarm chimes, speakers, but soon as I pulled into the dealer they worked. Seams solid so far, this is the 1st Dodge I have owned since a POS Omni years ago which I hated. I have driven Ford trucks for the last 15 years. And I already miss my truck, but I had to think of the family. Anyway, does not ride as well as the new trucks that are out, but afterall, it is on a cargo van shell. Bought 318 and will be towing a boat, the manual says it will handle it, time will tell. Has plenty of power for just the van, I am inpressed with that. Only plan on keeping 2 to 3 years until my wife gets a mini-van, then I am getting a truck again. I am a pick-up truck man, and compared to an older Ford E150 I had years ago, this Ram Van is much more solid. The conversion package is minimal, a flip-down TV, 4 captains chairs, and the usual shades. If it gives me proble

Great work van that rides great and gets better gas mileage than my 83 F150 van. The clutch was worn out when I got it but never got it fixed , it just keeps hanging on.

weak from the front to the back .

Well I had this truck for 8 months and i can honestly say PLEASE DONT BUY ONE!!! The first day i owned the vehicle and brought it home i took my wife for a ride and she said to me "i feel something in the floor hitting my feet'' so i brought it right back to the dealer to find out that the suspension was not tightend to the frame properly.that was only the begining.I had to have the front spindle arms replaced (part of the 4x4)I had my a/c worked on 4 times. The front brakes needed to be fixed. The trannsmision had to be worked on.(wouldnt shift right)The power windows 2 times.I also had a clunking in the rear end (never did get fixed)I also had the timing chain replaced and 2 compputers. After that i traded it in,and it only had 8,000 miles when i dumped it.Oh one more thing the motor had a bad rod knock in the morning but the dealer told me that was normal with a v8 (5.9 ltr 360ci).Yea right. I also had problems with the radio i couldnt keep any stations in.

Strength:

Air Conditioning seems strong. Radio sounds good. All electric items still operating. Drives pretty flat when entering freeway via right hand sweeping onramp. Ride seems ok, but of course does not drive like a car.

Weakness:

Somewhat noisy on freeway, but has extra thick door insulation seals which help to keep noise down.

Overall I am satisfied with this vehicle. I received this new vehicle in February 2001. It is now June 2001. One issue fixed under warranty was a knocking noise coming from the engine. This turned out to be some kind of emissions valve opening and closing. I complained, and the service department put a "muffler" on the device. The knocking noise went away. Another issue I have is an occilating noise coming out of what I think to be the rear differential. It occurs between 50 and 60 mph, with 55 mph being the peak speed where the noise is the loudest. This noise occurs when the car is neither speeding up or slowing down. Perhaps it is gear backlash, or perhaps it is noise from the differential not being broken in. I will have this issue looked at on my next service visit.

Overall, I am satisfied with this vehicle, and based upon my current findings, I would have no problem in recommending this vehicle to anyone. If I can not have resolved the rear differential noise, then my opinion would change to me not recommending anyone to buy this vehicle. At my workplace, quality is number one. If Dodge cannot make a quality product, then they should stop making this particular vehicle.

Notes: This vehicle was purchased as a new Van Conversion by Glaval Corporation thru Fullerton Dodge. This model is called the "Tony B Signature Series". It is based on a Dodge Ram 1500 Ram with 5.2 liter V8 engine. In pure city driving, short hops, I get about 11 mpg. On all freeway driving, I have achieved 16 mph going consistently 70 to 80 mph. On another long freeway trip, I got 15 mpg going 75 to 85 mph. High speed stability is good. I felt save going at speed. Tires installed on this vehicle are BF Goodrich P255 70R15. I bought this vehicle for going to work and occasional 400 mile destination trips.

Strength:

It starts every time I want it to. The paint appears to be staying on.

Weakness:

The electrical system. The heating/cooling system. The interior trim. The road noise.

I have had enough and plan to buy a Ford if I can unload this Dodge. The electrical system required complete re-wiring. The blower/heat/ac have been worked on over 7 times and still isn't right. The headliner had to be replaced to re-install the vents that fell out. The suspension makes a funny noise. Every piece of trim has had to be re-tightened. Screws just fall out. The a/c hoses connceted to the rear evaporator became corroded (aparently from being driven outside) and in removing them the dealership damaged the evaporator to the tune of $1100. The customer service people don't show any remorse for the poor design or the fact that it has been in the shop 21 times in less than 2 years.

Strength:

Reliability. This vehicle has been one of the most reliable autos I've owned. Never once in for service in nearly 3 years. This is a very tastefully done conversion inside and out from Vanworks. I toured their facility before I bought this one and the quality and detail just can't be beat by any other upfitter out there. Never a complaint about the conversion or the solid vehicle beneath. Great gas mileage for a full size van, I consistently get 15/19 city/highway respectively. The key to this is the properly sized engine for the vehicle.

Weakness:

Visibility. The windshield and front driver/passenger windows are not very tall compared to GM/Ford. The front end tends to wear tires more quickly than I'd care to see, but still much better than the Ford I had previously.
Ride can be a bit punchy when riding in the front, even after new shocks at 60k a few months ago. Otherwise the ride elsewhere in the vehicle is very comfortable.

There are jewels and there are lemons in each and every manufacturers lines of products, Dodge is no different. I was fortunate enough to have a real jewel. I may regret letting this one go because its been such a great vehicle. The best advice I can give to anyone buying from a dealer is to research them as well as the vehicle you are looking for because there are indeed jewels and lemons on that front as well. Upfitters are numerous but not by any measure the same. Vanworks is a high quality upfitter who will gladly give you a tour of their facility, they have nothing to hide and much to be proud of. I'm giving this vehicle 5 stars because it has served me and my family of 5 kids without hesitation. It has been an excellent overall value.

Model Reviewed: 1500 Conversion (Extended)

Strength:

Lots of room

Weakness:

Very shoddy, cheap and relies on service from Chrysler dealers (very bad!)

I've had to replace both front power windows, all the power locks, the entire front braking system, and it took them a year to fix the abs brakes.

Now (all of 2 years after purchase) it needs a new ENGINE!!

(I forgot to mention that alignment after alignment and brake checks did not stop this van from chewing up all the tires I put on it.)

Do NOT buy this product!!!

Please be VERY careful about buying extended warranties. I thought the one I paid an arm and a leg for was a Chrysler warranty - surprise!!! My new engine will have to come out of my pocket because there is sludge in the engine (even though 9 out of 10 things that go wrong in the engine produce sludge...) AND I had to all the diagnostic charges!!

Live and learn.
