Strength:

Good engine, very few problems. Electrics are good, and very spacious.

Weakness:

The seats are basically cardboard with a piece of plastic and the small safety problem.

I bought the van version as my first car in 1970. I've had it ever since and I still enjoy it every time I drive. It makes even the 8 track player sound great. With the paint job and mag wheels its ridiculously cool.

Strength:

Smooth running 5.0 with good power The overdrive transmission shifts are as smooth as glass The rides and drives great (haven't been on the highway yet)

Weakness:

Not sure yet. Most problems were due to the previous owner. The only complaint so far is the accessibility of certain areas of the engine. Then again, it is a van so there's not much you can do about it. Once I get everything the way I want it, I'm sure I'll find some weaknesses

This was a conversion van my friend spotted at a local car lot in their junk section. When he told me it was $300, I had to check it out. The outside was in good shape, but the inside was trashed. This van had been de-converted. Rear captains chairs were replaced with a 3 drawer dresser, carpet was replaced with laminate flooring (a horrible job of it too!) It had one of the batteries explode, eating the insulation off of most of the wires in the engine compartment and melting the vacuum hoses. It was only running on 3 cylinders since most of the plug wires were eaten by the acid. I've fixed everything I could and it runs great! I'll fix the wiring later, ALL of the electrical works even though there was NO insulation on the wires. I've never really considered Ford before, but this van is bulletproof. I'm very amazed. Best $300 ever spent

Strength:

Powerful, solid, dependable. You can transport just about anything! LOTS of room!

Weakness:

Gas mileage; driver and passenger door have technical service bulletin for inner/outer panel separation; van is big and bulky.

I have a E350 with a Triton V10. It's a very powerful van with lots of towing power. We've driven it 30,000 miles with no major problems.

Strength:

This Econoline can haul a ton of stuff and still charge up mountain passes, etc. Plus, it works great as a rudimentary RV--plenty of room to stretch out.

Weakness:

The handling is a little shakey at speeds over about 70mph, which makes travel through SoCal a bit scary. And it truly enjoys the big gulp of gasoline

I took a real gamble on the purchase of this Econoline, since I bought it on a whim at an auction. But I really lucked out--it was in excellent condition, albeit it with 118,000 miles, and has continued to run smoothly with very few problems. It's the 460 7.5L V8 engine.

Strength:

Ergonomics, the basic bucket seat is more comfortable than the fancier car seats I've dealt with. Console is well thought out and the side mirrors are huge.

Weakness:

No way to turn on the light in the back without leaving the interior lights. Also the fleet model while a little beefed up does not have cruise control or automatic light shut off. The differential and rear wheel drive really chews up the back tires. You really have to watch your maintenance on these if you don't want to keep replacing tires. Original brakes/drums and radiator were only so-so. I have chosen to upgrade when these wore out. Also this vehicle is sensitive to dust, I live in Texas and I keep an eye on filters and intake because we have high dust here. Small problems for a 7 year old vehicle.

Bought this van new. Have had it 6 yrs, 66,000. Most people are suprised that a girl would drive a no frills fleet van as a daily. I bought it because I wanted cheap and dependable. I average 10,000 miles a year, so I don't need frills that break. The van is very nicely designed and doesn't drive like a truck. A neighbor who owns an S-10 drove it this year and did not want to give it up! It is very smooth, though my inline 6 doesn't have a lot of power. The only problem is tires, which is typical on vans. I rotate and have them checked at every oil change which helps considerably. Also this engine pings when you use low octane. I use medium and it runs and gets better mileage, 10-12 in town.

Strength:

has a lot of power. can tow or cary anything. rides like a more expencive car(caddy). mine is totally custom and grabs a lot of attention. GREAT VAN

Weakness:

gas milage but you don't buy a car this size and expect to get great gas milage. it gets 8-10in the city and about 15-19 on the highway.

cool van. it has a tv, vcr and an awesome sound system. everthing was replaced or redone by the last owner. it only has 30k on the engine, customepaint job and a killer sound system. it has the 351 4bbl, pretty quick but not good on gas but if your looking for gas milage buy a minyvan. i also own a grand caravan and it is the biggest pile of crap. every thing minor has gone wrong with it. my ford on the other hand has ony regular maintance. the van is set up to be in shows and i got a really good deal on it. would recmond this van to anyone. this thing actually grabs more attention then my previos 95 supped up eclipes.

Strength:

Body has no rust The engine is durable The electrical parts have a high fault tolerance

Weakness:

The clockspring should have lasted longer The front suspension was in terrible shape after 100,000 miles

I have invested nearly $2000 into this van since I purchased it. It had 110,000 miles and now has 135,000 miles. The previous owner did not maintain the van well. I have installed a new exhaust ($300), replaced the entire front end suspension ($1200), replaced a clock spring in the steering column ($100), replaced the MAP sensor ($100), the starter ($50), and a few other minor parts. While it was in need of attention, the van never stopped running. It ran a little rough when the MAP sensor froze. While this may seem like alot to invest in a 10 year old vehicle, I can say that the van runs like new currently. The ride is smooth, no rust on the body, and the 4.9 V-6 runs effortlessly. The trans is due to be serviced as I am sure the previous owner neglected this area. I plan to change the fluid, screens, and filter. Everyone loves the van and says it rides wonderfully. The captains chairs are simply too plush and many times I wish I was the passenger instead of the driver so I can relax as well. Conversation with passengers is short as sleep in these chairs during long trips is inevitable.

Strength:

towing power to spare, lots of room for hauling cargo or family ( seats up to 8) I GET ABOUT 18 MPG HIGHWAY, NO BAD FOR BIG V8

Weakness:

I TRULY CAN SAY I CANT FIND ANYTHING. Rear bench seat is a little stiff, but the kids dont complain. I would buy another one in a heartbeat if I wanted to get a new color.

I bought a 98 Econoline Club wagon with 30,000 miles off a couple who had it on a 2 year lease and took care of it. It was like perfect new for my family 4 kids and mostly to use as a tow van to tow a travel trailer about 6000lbs fully loaded with everything for a vacation which we are lucky to have for 10 weeks over the summer. It has the 5.4 V8 with tow package. Let me tell you if you tow this is the van. It never gets hot even in 100 degree plus days with the air on pulling a hill. The temp gauge stays in the same place. There has never been a hill I could not climb without losing a beat in will drop down a gear without working to much and hold on she will start picking up speed uphill fully loaded. I get about 12 mpg TOWING, 87 octain, no knocks. runs very quiet in park As far as room behind the rear bench is a lot of cargo room which is all wasted in a conversion van. vERY COMFORTABLE CAPTAIN TYPE SEATS All the rear seats come out and you can haul a lot of material 4 by 10 sheets of sheetrockand more.I never run out of uses for the van

Strength:

Very easy to work on. Very peppy. Good gas mileage for it's size and application. The A4OD Transmission is a good aid in helping fuel economy as it "locks" to the engine crankshaft (like a manual transmission automobile) therefore reducing wasted power and fuel. VERY smooth ride. Has sharp turning capabilities and greasable steering linkages

Weakness:

It needs to have 89 octane gasoline or higher. Regular 87 unleaded gives it a light ticking sound on acceleration. Put 89 or better, the ticking goes away. $.02 per gallon more over regular unleaded-big woop! Not a big weakness

I've bought this 93 E150 Cargo Van for work use and so far I've really been pleased with it. The 302 works excellent and gets about 22mpg highway which is about the same as my 98 Ranger with a 3.0 V6. The 302 V8 really seems to have alot of torque at stoplights and other points of acceleration and passing vehicles on the highway. Mechanically it's in like new condition which is remarkable since it has 118,000 miles on it. It's very easy to work on, requiring few tools and time.

Strength:

Solidly built. Very comfortable ride. Long lasting drive train. Excellent rustproofing and tough paint job. Easy to maintain.

Weakness:

Steering could be a bit more solid. Airconditioning piping with snap-on couplings should be replaced by clamp-tight connections to avoid o-ring failures.

This van was bought new and professionally converted with 2 captain chairs in front and large empty carpeted cavity at the rear. Used for numerous extremely heavy hauling and long camping trips. At 242k miles, the 4 spd auto transmission finally died. Just had it rebuilt for $1,000 plus. The 302 V8 is only beginning to show signs of age but still adequate for high speed expressway cruising and very heavy loading. Still has 100 to 120 lbs. compression in each cylinder. Gas mileage now average 12.5; was 14.5 when new. Burns a quart of oil every 1,500 miles since new. Had 2 fires both caused by replacement alternators. Earlier a/c failure caused by faulty rubber o-rings connecting the Freon pipes necessitating a/c rebuilt. Changed to Teflon o-rings and problem solved. Had rear axle seal leak. Repair covered by extended warranty. Original muffler went after 242k miles. Body has nearly no rust. Newer twin I-beams are no longer kicker to tire wear. Each set of the C rated tires last over 45,000 miles with very even wear. Needed front wheel alignment only after 218k miles. Very comfortable ride. Steering is much more stable than earlier E150 but may not be as tight as Chevy’s which seems to ride much harder.
