Strength:

extremely tough & durable (taught both kids to drive in it). Never let me down.

Weakness:

Rust

Bought new in fall of 88, now has 221,000 miles & still strong as an ox. Getting too rusty for my purposes. Ordered it with 351 EFI engine, gets 11-12 mpg either loaded or empty. Has a slight shimmy at speeds over 80MPH & problems with dual tanks (each one will fill the other while in use). I only fill the rear one & keep switching back & fourth. Going to upgrade today & it will be heartbreaking to part with the 89.

Strength:

Captain's chairs in first 2 rows add to the great ride-it ride's like a car, not a truck. Cargo room is spacious. Holds whole family plus X-mas gifts when traveling between ATL & STL without needing a U-haul.

Weakness:

Excessive wearing of front brakes, front tires, and cooling system. Front pads need to be replaced every 12K miles, and front rotors every 36K. Still on the original set of rear drum pads. Be sure to front-end align if buying new. Amazingly, Ford doesn't align front-end from factory. First set of tires lasted only 18K, 2nd set lasted 55K. Cooling system began overheating after 3 years, only on hot days (>80F), and when running AC. Also, overheats when towing boat long distance with AC. Dealer can't find problem. Have checked coolant flow, t-stat, radiator AC system and replaced bad fan motor-all looks good, but problem persists. Rear AC coolant lines originally ran thru rear springs by conversion company, causing premature failure of coolant lines to rear AC. Now routed around springs.

Our van is a conversion by Osage (Lynn, MO). We like the styling, ride, and functionality. 5.4L V8 w/ tow package. Boat is only 200 yds from the water. Currently, has 78,xxx miles. I love this van, but will reluctantly admit to seek another type of vehicle in the future (truck or large car). Previous mini-van experience confirm for me that vans in general have too many front-end issues.

Strength:

Looks, in particular interior layout, comfortable and adjustable seating for 7 (4captains, 1 bench, room for another bench), good driver and passenger views; tinted windows cool; tows well but lacks horses; nice mirrors and rear doors that unlatch to open fully; dash storage good and interior finishing

Weakness:

alignment, poor gas mileage, steering and front end problems, poor gas mileage, one thing after another just like the other ford I mistakingly bought, have replaced just about anything you possibly can in 2 months, poor gas mileage and....poor gas mileage

E350, solid frame and bumpers, none of this plastic shaped crap but chrome; nice looks attracted me over butt-ugly dogdge (had one before) and chevy vans although brand new chev is much better; great cruiser if it didn''t wander all over the place, nice interior looks and exterior design but disappointed with tons of problems, some of which can be expected given it''s used; used for towing and does okay although seems to have same power with a trailer behind it as without....and same lousy gas mileage. first few tanks worked out to 11 mp(Canandian!!)gal combined!! Front rotors whobble, tranny burned to a crisp, rear end will never burn rubber for sure, 4 speed overdrive shifts slow and improved with a shift kit after rebuild, steering bizzare shake, replaced everything but the radiusarms insulators; constantly goes out of alignment, shakes due to increased tire size and wore the crap out of the tires. apparently common, don''t do it and go for bigger or wider tires than stock. rear heater pipes rotted out and alternator $$ huge in comparison to 80''s parts: the moral is don''t go for looks or body, haha, yes this one''s like a baaaad good looking woman with a rotten attitude

Taurus Wagon, crap but at least still runs; GMC Suburban, much better incl. mileage with better horses, go figure, body rotted out though, reliable as hell in comparison

Strength:

Power and roominess. Smooth ride, handles turns better than other trucks I''ve driven.

Weakness:

Long body is hard to manuever sometimes. Not easy to work on, Air filter must be removed to do most common repairs. kind of a gas hog, but its large.

This van is large and seems to be built well. Bought with a blown engine, replaced engine. Will use as a tow vehicle . Its a Mark III conversion ,very spacious. Seems to accelerate well with its new 302 engine.

This Van outlasts anything else. it has given me the expected trouble of all used vehicles but, This van works better than any other I have seen. It is a cargo van but she still outlasts 55 miles an hour, even when she is on full 1000 pound cargo capacity. One word: Beautiful.

Great fuel milage, always dependable. Never left us stranded in 336,000 mile. Handles heavy loads well, and fit much more freight in cargo area that other brands.

Weakness:

None

Extreamly reliable. Has the diesel with out turbo. The truck has 336,000 miles and still going strong. Never have had any problem with engine, but we have worn out one trans. The truck has gotten 22 miles per gallon since the day it went in service.

Strength:

Generally very reliable vehicle. Still runs very strong with 126,000 miles. I plan on keeping it til 200,000. I use synthetic oil, very expensive, but way cheaper than engine overhaul or replacement.

Weakness:

Terrible gas mileage. Less than honest evaluation and advice from some dealerships when brought in for obvious problems with brakes.

We bought this 15-passenger van with the 460 V-8 in 1993. Had terrible ongoing problems with brakes. Had to replace them several times. Ford dealer in Ukiah said no defects in system...heavy vehicle, braking on hills, carrying heavy loads...etc. (Sure, Buck..) Finally found out (after many $$$$) that the "dump valve" had an internal leak. Went from almost no brakes to great brakes when it was replaced. This is a very common problem. The first replacement unit was found to be defective right out of the box. Other than the brake issue, the van is quite reliable. Gets TERRIBLE mpg, but has plenty of power to haul lots of people or "stuff". Note: these vans have a very high center of gravity and are notorious for tipping over in accidents, something to consider.

really nice ride.

Weakness:

hard to work on

This van rides like a car. with the 351v8 it has plenty of power. It dosen''t like to pass gas stations though (12 mi/gal). With 108,000 miles the automatic transmission had to be rebuilt ($2200.00). Is this bad? I don''t know but the transmission guy said I did better than most.

Strength:

Ford makes a very good van. Big and tough compared to the mini-vans. The rear wheel drive is far better for commercial use and towing stuff. I recommend the big 4.9 in-line 6 or largest V6 or 351 V8 (gas hog). The 4.9 delivers performance on steep grades like the 351 V8 but the maintenance of a 6.

Weakness:

Do not buy the small V8, its a dog on power. Perhaps a flatlander wouldn''t care but anyone who drives in the mts or hills will hate that 302 V8.

This is my second Ford E-150. I use this van for business. The first was a 1988 model with 302 V8. A weak motor on hills and steep grades. At 160K miles, I sold it. The 1991 was bought in 1999. It has the big 4.9 liter in-line 6 cylinder engine. Much better performance on steep grades. I''m very pleased with it as a work vehicle.

I have a Mercury Grande Marquis with the 302 V8. Its a good engine in a car of this size.
