Ford F-150 (2010 and older) Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

The Ford F-150 pickup can haul more cargo and tow a heavier trailer than any of its competitors. And with a fully boxed frame, the F-150 has the strongest chassis in its class. Engineered and tested to withstand more punishment than your most difficult tasks, the F-150 is Built Ford Tough to come through with the dependability you expect in this full-size pickup.

The current F-150 does come in a host of cab, bed, powertrain, and suspension variations; there are three cab configurations with multiple wheelbases and box lengths each, providing choices to satisfy just about any trucker's need with the F-150. Properly outfitted, the F-150 can tow 10,700 pounds--while earning five-star frontal crash-test scores. A choice of V-8 engines comes with either four- or six-speed automatic transmissions, but no V-6 engine option is offered.

Strength:

Twin I beams up front, 300 cid inline six, best Ford pickup platform ever. 16 consecutive years without needing anything for inspection.

Weakness:

Engine easily overpowers clutch.

Still runs as good as new - literally (I bought it new in May of 1991) Best low end torque of any truck I have ever driven (light or medium duty). Refuses to break down. The 300cid (4.9L)
lasts forever, and has better low end torque than my 1996 460cid (7.5L). Hauls 3,0000 lbs of gravel (extra leaf spring added in 1992) occasionally without changing performance. Overall truck durability is enhanced with the inline six because you don't have to wind up the engine or and snap the clutch to get things moving. Give it needed maintenance and it more than pays for itself.

Great looking truck
easy made for more horse power

Weakness:

gas prices (takes premium gas because of supercharger)

Even though my truck is a F-150...its the best of the best. Body kit, Supercharger, the works. This truck is a one of kind. This is my husbands truck. We have made modifications to the truck. Showed it in several shows and taken home a good bit of money. Swade and leather seats, green gages, and heads up display. Modifications include: Pully system, 2 10' Rockford fosgate punch 3's, with a 800 watt amp, dvd/cd player with 3 7' flip down screens, green interior lights at feet and in middle of the bunch seats, underglow under the truck and underglow in the bed of the truck all green, Gaylord cover with wing on the back. Led backlights, 20' Crome rims, Angel eye headlights with clear corner lenses.

Strength:

Its a puller! Nice looking, fit and finish is great. Last of the great styled bodies. Why did they change the body style on the new ones??? Looks terrible.

Weakness:

Only thing I have noticed is the "check engine" light is temperamental. Comes on when all you need is a little injector cleaner. Oh well - I can live with that.

Overall the absolute best truck I have ever owned. Had a Dodge 1500 that went through 3 transmissions in 64K. This F150 Supercrew is awesome!! Just went over 100,000, and has never been in the shop. I pull my 5,000lb camper all over the western U.S., with never a whine from this truck. The engine/transmission combination is just right. No lack of power here. When the engine in this one decides the party is over - I will be replacing the engine and keeping the truck!

Model Reviewed: F150 Super Crew Lariat

Strength:

Very smooth car like ride, attractive design, plently of passenger room, and the engine is layed out conviently for easy maintenance.

Weakness:

Truck is way too long and wide for parking. Poor turning radius compounds the problem. Poor gas mileage. Interior fixtures will not stand the test of time. Very poor rear window visibilty as Ford has chopped from previous model. I also own a 2003 Expedition and like the 150 have experienced similar problems.

Anyone considering buying this vechile should think twice. The moment the warranty expired many things went south. Power steering went out. Which is very odd for a truck with less than 40,000 miles. All of the power window motors went out. The leather wears terribly. The leather wrapped steering wheel is falling apart. Metal is easily dented and very expensive to fix. The truck is so wide that when washing you must have a step ladder to hit all spots. The turning radius is the worst of any car I have owned. The only people who should consider this truck are people requiring 4WD and living in rural areas. Gas mileage is horrible. The dealership said I would get 18 mpg but am getting about 13 on the hwy.

Model Reviewed: Ford F150

Strength:

1. Very reliable, starts in below zero temps very well, can always count on it.
2. Has plenty of power for a 1/2 ton
3. IFS helps dampen the landing when I jump the truck, only good feature of IFS!
4. Cab is very comfortable, except the leather seats.
5. very durable considering I slid into a telephone pole with minimal damage to the box.

Weakness:

1. IFS is CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Should have kept the Dodge with the front soild axle, quite a bit more durable, unfortunately most it had transmission problems.
2. Also the rear axle is a Ford 9.75, very hard to find aftermarket gearing and lockers.
3. IFS cannot take the weight of a winch/grill guard combo, give the truck a nose down look.

Purchase for 9.9K overall a good value. When I bought the truck it had 71K on the engine, which is a 5.4L 330CID Triton V8 with the off-road package, towing package, and Lariat package. The 5.4L engine has plenty of power for towing my friends tandem axle car trailer. The truck rides very nice on the high way and get about 18 mpg, even with my 195lbs grill guard/winch combo and mud terrain tires. I woudld recommend avoiding the Lariat package as it is a waste of money, because leather is cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

1994 Ford F150 ran great, except for Twin traction beam front suspension.
1995 Dodge 2500 I like the interior and the front coil spring suspension.
1983 Ford Ranger old beater truck, I rolled it within 2 weeks of buying it, can't say much on reliability.

Model Reviewed: F-150 XLT Flareside 4x4 Supercab

Strength:

Styling (the 92-96 F-series are still my favorite, plus the Flareside bed makes it even better!), 5.0 Engine durabilty, excellent ride, Interior design and room, performance in 4x4, headlights illuminate road very well, durability of most parts, factory paint is beautiful, XLT trim package has alot of nice features like PW, PL, Cruise, Lumbar seats, nicer paint, chrome grill and bumper, etc.

Weakness:

The transmission does not very good use of the engine's power characteristics. It seems to shift at the wrong times making the 5.0 seem doggy. Shift lever broke, oil pan rotted out twice, wiper timing failed (only two speeds now, fast or faster). The biggest problem we have with it is rot though, when it sat around it started to rust out pretty good and coupled with the road salt around here, the under carriage is sadly a wreck. Most issues we have with it these days are due to the oxidation so I dont consider that a weakness from Ford, its really our own fault for not taking care of it more.

We bought this truck back in '95 with 60k miles on it. My dad drove it for a few years, then it sat around while he got a company truck and used that for daily driving. The F-150 was just used here and there and that turned out to be the worse thing for it. Its now used regularly and it actually seems like less things break and its more reliable now then it was when it was just sitting around and being used everyonce in a while. It now has 143,000 and I absolutely love driving it still. The rust is eating her up but we will run it until it absolutely runs no more. The styling is still some of the best ever in my opinion and the ride is amazing. A really great truck! Once this truck is done Im gonna look for another 92-96, with no rust. Great trucks!

Model Reviewed: F150 XL 4x2 4.2L V6

Strength:

Can do three times its rated for in towing, twice what its rated for on payload capacity, and considering I've beat the crap out of it and only had to spend about $1000 in repairs...NOT BAD!!! Truly BUILT FORD TOUGH!

Weakness:

Replaced the clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throw-out bearing, DPFE sensor, and went through about 3 lower valances (because of offroading though). Poor gas mileage for a V6 because the engine has to kill itself to move a 4,500 - 5,000 LB truck.

Truck is very strong for having a V6. I've pulled 6 and 7 thousand pound trailers with this truck and its only rated for up to 2,000LB!!! Its a comfortable, strong, dependable, and stylish truck. I would definately recommend this truck to anyone in the 1/2 ton market. I just imagine what this truck would do with a 4.6L or 5.4L

UMM...... Trading it in on a newer one!

I miss my F-150, It was a great truck. it was an older truck but with 200,000mi it ran like a new 1. I had it for right at a year and then my dad talked me into getting a 2k1 f250. I wish I kept my f150. They pull a boat plenty good, I used mine for work and play! It was very comfortable to drive! I am 6' and I could drive it and my 5'1" girl friend could drive it just as well!

Before I got rid of it I had 4" of lift and 35" tires and it turned heads! and still drove great, But lifting it did affect the gas mileage a little bit.
