Ford F-150 (2010 and older) Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

The Ford F-150 pickup can haul more cargo and tow a heavier trailer than any of its competitors. And with a fully boxed frame, the F-150 has the strongest chassis in its class. Engineered and tested to withstand more punishment than your most difficult tasks, the F-150 is Built Ford Tough to come through with the dependability you expect in this full-size pickup.

The current F-150 does come in a host of cab, bed, powertrain, and suspension variations; there are three cab configurations with multiple wheelbases and box lengths each, providing choices to satisfy just about any trucker's need with the F-150. Properly outfitted, the F-150 can tow 10,700 pounds--while earning five-star frontal crash-test scores. A choice of V-8 engines comes with either four- or six-speed automatic transmissions, but no V-6 engine option is offered.

Model Reviewed: F-150 supercrew cab 5.4 V8

Strength:

Plenty of power. Gas milage is reasonable for a full sized pickup.
The ride is unbeatable. Styling. Very nice.

Weakness:

Not a dependable truck at all. Always breaks down.Replace water pump at 8,000. And a new set of tires on the front because of abnormal wear. Had a shimmy in the front end. And a rattle in the dash, still not fixed.
At 9,000 replaced ACU valve and master cylinder. Brakes still very soft.
At 9,400 replaced 2 injectors, 8 spark plugs and catalytic converter.

I've driven Fords all my life. Never had a new one. Always have driven used. And have never had a problem.
Finally thought it was time for a new truck since my 1999 f150 had over 100,000 miles on it.
So I treated myself to a brand new 2005 f150 xlt supercrew cab. Beautiful truck, has a ton of options and more than enough power for towing.(5.4 V8).

Strength:

Interior fit and finsh, lux ammenities such as heated seats, memory seats, and dimming mirrors. The engine is strong and revs willingly with plenty of power. Hauls heavy loads with no sweat. Value for the money, you'll pay way under sticker. No reliabilty issues to report.

Weakness:

Ford service a little under par from what I'm used to. Still skeptical of reliability. Stock sound system has to go.

Traditionally I am not a fan of American made vehicles, in fact this is my first one. I truly think that this is the best full size truck on the market, I shopped them all and came away with the Ford. I have no brand loyalties whatsoever. Ford has made strides with the new model in terms of fit and finish inside and general build quality. Gone are the plastic creaking panels with large gaps. It is extremely evident that Ford spent quite a bit of money on R & D. I remain skeptical of the reliability issues, although I have had no problems to write about. This truck performs flawlessly day in and day out. I have added a K&N aircharger intake and a flowmaster exhaust. I can certainly recommend this to any 5.4 owner, it power increase is well worth the money, as far as increased fuel mileage, I can't say; since I put them on I can't seem to keep my foot off the floor becuase the sound is so nice. Did I mention that I got 11k off the sticker of 40K, bargain hard with Ford, you'll get it...(Toytoa offered me a "great" deal, 3,300 off..wow)

Strength:

Power...I love the 5.4 Triton V8...the truck is heavy but it does what it has to do! Overall comfort is great! It's truly a real head-turner, I get lots of attention!

Weakness:

The only actual weakness that I can honestly say the truck has is poor gas mileage! Other than that I LOVE IT!

I've had the truck for a little over a year now, I must say, it's been GREAT! No problems so far except to change an ignition coil. (I can't complain!) It drives great and shifts very smoothly. It has a very roomy interior...seats are very comfortable. I have the single disk cd player...sounds good...but would love the Audiophile 6 disk changer...I'll have to look into that. Overall it's treated me very well, I'm very pleased with my Ford F-150! I've heard a lot of my older close relatives comment on Ford being cheap and just not adding up to their name...I disagree. It all depends on how you maintain a vehicle! Would I buy another one? In a heartbeat!

Model Reviewed: F-150 Supercab XLT 4.6 V8

Strength:

Power is great, proven performance with the 4.6, acceleration still great after nine years, I love the way it sounds when I start it up and did I mention the bulletproof 4.6?

Weakness:

The tie rods are weak, with replacements they should last quite a while. When deciding on an F-150, have a mechanic look the truck over, especially the sterring system. Only other thing I have ever noticed is that it takes about 5 minutes or so to warm up in the winter, which does not even qualify as a complaint.

This truck has been very dependable. I bought it in 2001 when it was 4 years old, and had 48,000 miles on it. Since purchasing, I have replaced the rear sliding window to get rid of the leaks, the upper and lower tie rods, ball joints and the pittman shaft. The engine oil is chaged every 3,500 miles. The truck still runs like it did the day I bought it. I have heard many people complain about squeaks and rattles inside the truck, but I must say that I have not experienced any myself. The trim pieces all fit very well, and none have had to be replaced. My F150 does have the common door crack problem, the cracks are on both front doors. They are about 3/8 of an inch long, and they have not gotten any worse since I bought the truck. I was unaware of this problem when I bought it, but that is my own fault. Since the truck was way out of warranty, I am stuck with it, but as I said before, the cracks are staying the same. The windows, cruise control, and blinkers have never given me any problems. Engine shifts smooth enough with the four speed automatic. Acceleration is fine also. The truck does not hesitate at all if the gas pedal is lightly tapped, or smashed to avoid a moron in traffic. The AC still blows air so cold I can see my breath. This is the truth. Other reviewers have also noted the poor crash test rating, but people will see a big truck easier than a car. I wear seat belts and have airbags, so I will not live in fear. The original tires that were installed on the truck when I bought it were Michelins, and they were replaced at 95,000 miles!! That is almost 50,000 miles on the original used tires! Tire wear has been nearly perfect (not worth an alignment) every time it has been checked by a professional. I still catch people sneaking a peek at my truck every now and then. Pretty good for a vehicle that is almost ten years old. There is rust on the bottom lip of the tailgate (along with the obvious door crack spots) but that is all. The paint is also still quite shiny. I use Armor All Car Wash Concentrate every couple of months to keep the truck clean. The only other comment I can think of to make is that the truck handles a 1,000 pound load perfectly. The tires hug the road gracefully with a bunch of weight in the bed (or just my 300 pounds of sand) with the springs Ford installed in these things.

Model Reviewed: Ford F-150 Lar

Strength:

Towing Capacity, Comfort of Ride as well as the seats. Looks of the interior and exterior. I like all the options that come standard on the Lariat. Major strength - After 10 months of owernship not one return to the dealer. Thats what I consider to be a good vehicle.

Weakness:

Poor gas mileage - to be expected from a 6000 pound vehicle. I don't like raised white letters on the tires. Like all trucks the bed gets beat-up easily. Lastly, no option for Advanced Track to reduce the chance of roll-over.

This is a nice looking and nice riding truck. This truck has many creature-comforts you would expect too find in a luxuary sedan. The quality of the fit and finish is exceptional. The seats are comfortable and have lumbar adjustments to fit your specific requirements. The interior is modern looking and has many options that are easy to use and close at hand. The dash has easy to read and offers attractive gauges. The heated seats are comforting on cold days. I use my truck to hold 2 yards of mulch at a time. I like the high side walls and cubic feet of the short bed truck.

Looks and styling. Power (5.4). Comfort.

Starting to rattle (only 25k miles). Wonder what's going to break next.

I've been a Ford truck lover for years and this is the first truck I purchased brand new. This was the truck to last me for years. I'm a little disappointed. So far, the TFT sensor went out which was repaired under warranty. At about 22k miles, I had to have the right side camber kit replaced (suspension is covered for only 12 mos/12k miles as I learned). Having to replace the camber kit surprised me since I don't take the truck off road or on rough roads, then to find it wasn't covered by warranty. I wonder what's going to break next.

Model Reviewed: Super Cab 4x2 Xlt

Strength:

Long lasting, lots of parts, reliable, roomy. Duel gas tanks.

Weakness:

Power with the 6-cylender, gas milage, (highest I have recorded was about 17). And my a.c doesn't blow cold.

This truck is indestructive. It was my grandfather's old ranch truck. It has been used and abused but it still runs strong! Mine is a blue Xlt Lariat supercab. 2wheel drive. Truck has a little over 103k on the odometer. I have the bomb-proof 4.9l 6 cylinder. Doesn't really have the horsepower to tow much or to stoplight racing. So far have only done normal repairs.(oil, air filter, tires, batteries)Truck is very roomy inside, plenty of room for 6 big guys. If you have the front bench seat like me. Automatic trans. shifts very nice. The only thing that seems to be wrong is that it won't fire up unless you step on the gas. To be expected with a 1990 truck. My tail gate and 1/4 panels have 0 rust. That seems to be a problem with older F-serise and broncos. The radio is in great shape, if that makes a differance. And the antena has withstood many whiplashes from tree branches. Origanal paint has held up well. Before the truck was mine it was used as a 2nd truck at the ranch to haul any dirty stuff that my grandfather was afraid to put in his Z71 chevy. And somtimes we wouldn't drive it for 2 months; and if we needed it we just put new oil in her and she started right up! Chevy has that slogan,"most dependible, longest lasting trucks on the road", not true. Heres why, after my grandfather realized that he needed a 4x4. Thats when the 1995 Z71 came in. It was a more well equiped truck, 4x4, chrome, V8, all that great stuff. He had that truck from 1997 to 2001. At the end of the ownership, thers was a problem with the engine computer, the winshield wipers, and last but not least, one morning after pulling the passenger door handle, the door came off! That truck has since been traded in. So we had the chevy for 4 years, until it fell apart. And the 90 f-150 for 12-13 years and is still going strong! You make the choice. Good first truck, or good whatever truck.

bought this lemon new. have 127,000 miles on it now. parts replaced in first year, rear gas tank, rear drive shaft, serpentine belt, both headlight bulbs (after market bulbs still in truck.second year, both tie rod ends, drive saft seal, tires. had a few good years then it went down hill fast. so far i have replaced the radiator 3 times, wiper motor 3 times, ujoints twice (after market ones have grease fitting still fine after after 80,000 )replaced ignition coil, distibutor, fuel pump relay, starter, altenator, stering box (sector saft rusted and ruined inner seal )replaced front gas tank (plastic stone guard held in moisture )axle seals/bearings ,rear brake cylinders and brake lines, rigth rear leaf springs, removed leaking rear gas tank when i replaced frame from cab back at 100,000 are you starting to get the picture yet? siding rear widow leaked from day 1. tailgate cables broke twice. tailgate mounts replaced, clutch master cylinder top broke off when refilling (slave cylinder leaks bigtime). i will never buy another ford pickup! we had a 1954 ford f-100 for 20 years. when i was a teenager i over hauled the motor and drove it school. it still had all original parts in it.sadly they don't build them that way any more. in all fairness to ford this truck did alot of work hauling lumber, sand, stone, fishing gear, hunting gear. many miles were put on it going down logging roads in search of trout and deer, but i spent alot of time under this truck fixing it.i traded a 1984 chevy c 10 auto v8 with 80,000 miles for this ford, all i did was drive the chevy,no problems other than brake rotors warping. the ford was a real disapointment for me.
