Ford F-150 (2010 and older) Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

The Ford F-150 pickup can haul more cargo and tow a heavier trailer than any of its competitors. And with a fully boxed frame, the F-150 has the strongest chassis in its class. Engineered and tested to withstand more punishment than your most difficult tasks, the F-150 is Built Ford Tough to come through with the dependability you expect in this full-size pickup.

The current F-150 does come in a host of cab, bed, powertrain, and suspension variations; there are three cab configurations with multiple wheelbases and box lengths each, providing choices to satisfy just about any trucker's need with the F-150. Properly outfitted, the F-150 can tow 10,700 pounds--while earning five-star frontal crash-test scores. A choice of V-8 engines comes with either four- or six-speed automatic transmissions, but no V-6 engine option is offered.

Strength:

It is the truck that wouldn't die.

Weakness:

None, really.

We bought this pickup used in 1994 for my husband. It replaced another F150 that didn't have 4WD (I can't even remember the year that one was). My husband is a Ford man and won't buy anything but Fords for himself. I, myself, am a Chevy person, but I have to say that if you are looking for a pickup, buy Ford. I do believe they make the best pickups, especially after having this one. We refer to it as the beast. This truck has over 200,000 miles on it and it just keeps going! It looks terrible, but runs great. The paint is almost all peeled off of it, and we figured (several years back) why paint it with the milage that is on it, since it probably won't be running much longer. Surprise! It is still running. (My husband thinks this was in the years where Ford recalled the paint jobs because of the clearcoat peeling off, and that is what happened with this truck. The clearcoat peeled, taking most of the paint with it.) I have to say that I am more than impressed with this truck, I am astounded. This vehicle was used very hard. My husband is harder on vehicles than anyone I ever met in life, and this truck gives as good as it gets. I hope it keeps going a few more years. I just wonder if we can get 500,000 miles out of it.

Strength:

Handy family truck. Shifts easily. Great eye appeal. Plenty of leg room, front and back.

Weakness:

Back glass leaks water. 5-speed. Needs a forth door. Needs more traction. Loud idleing. Speakers not very good. First gear is very short.

163k miles when I purchased the truck. One year later it has 183k miles and still strong. I have put 1 battery and done a brake job. Oil changes every 3k miles, and 2 air filters. The V-6 engine sounds like a diesel but thats normal for a 4.2 liter. Engine is big enough to pull a 16 foot bass boat at Interstate speeds. I would not buy it if I was going to pull heavy loads. I would consider the truck if I would make a couple trips to the fishing hole or as a company vehicle.

Need to get a navigation system other then that none.

This is the best truck I have ever owned. I had the Toyota, Nissan and another Ford but this is it. I don't know what you people are talking about it being to high that is why we bought it clearance. If you want a granny truck buy the Chevy with no clearance I actually use my 4X4 it isn't just for looks. It does suck some gas but hey I can deal with it this truck rides like a dream and can take a beating. I have no complaints at all. Test drove an 2004 and it is pretty sweet will probably wait till next year though and let them work out the kinks.

Beautiful Interior, Gorgeous Exterior, Great Acceleration, - If you need even more speed (dont we all), there are some cheap modifications to add more power.

Weakness:

Speeding tickets are a bummer.

Oh my goodness. This truck really has it all. An actual pickup that has pickup. She really hauls butt. Oh what fun it is to ride, in a '03 HD. If you are thinking about buying one of these...stop thinking and go get one. I have had no problems at all and really beat on her. Been driving her a lot around the country and sometimes get bored so I gotta go fast or race someone. And she still treats me well. What more can you ask for? BTW...all these people saying there trucks give them problems, it's because they don't give them the respect they deserve. If you take care of her, she'll take care of you. I want another one of these.

Good power Good handling Quiet Lots of room Lots of cup holders

Weakness:

Rides a little stiff Standard stereo speakers are not great

The best truck ever built!! Exceptional interior room with 4dr regular cab. The only truck I've ever had that I didn't have to have the seat all the way back to be comfortable. Lots of space behind the seat to keep gear secure and the extra doors make it easy to get to. Decent power from 4.6L V8. Getting 15 mpg combined use. Ride is a little stiff but handles great and is very quiet inside. Flareside bed is nice with tie downs inside and out. "Tailgate assist" makes it easy to lift the gate with one hand. Even my wife can close it now. All around, a great truck.

Nice and high up, great view once you can climb up the thing, almost 75 inches tall cab heigt. Big engine, 5.4L

Weakness:

It was horrible climbing up that thing without a running board. It was literally like climing a monkey bar in Elemtary school , awkward to get in and out of the cab. Back bench leg room was tiny and my head hits the roof. No drink holders ! Front passenger leg room was bad. Had to bend the left knee awkwardly to fit my legs. Gas guzzler, less than 13mpg on city. Very very stiff ride. I am not sure if the suspension is even in the truck. It gave me a backache after a 5 minute test drive. On every corners I turned, it swayed so much that it felt like it was going to tip over at slow speeds. Extremely unsafe. I heard it had a terrible crash test rating, breaking the crash dummy instantly, bad. Weak frame strength. I would either buy a F-250 or F-350 just to be sure of safety, or better yet, a Chevy Silverado which is much safer and stronger. Appearance looks whimpy. I don't know why anyone would buy this particular model.

I test drove this vehicle in search of a good truck. It was terrible.

Chevy Silverado 1500 Ext Cab 2x4. For my money, I rather keep myself and family safe and drive a practical truck like Silverado. Don't waste your money on F-150. If you are dead set on buying a ford, I know I still like other models of ford, get either a F-250 or F-350 pick ups or dish out more money for the supposedly new and improved 2004 model. I think they had to make the 2004 model stronger because the 2003 model failed the crash test miserably. Hopefully ford designers actually made the new one better.

F-150 is a decent truck. Low on creature comforts but a good value for the $$. However, if all of you look closely on the drivers door, on the outside, near the upcurve of the window, you will notice a CRACK in the metal frame of the door. I am considering contacting an attorney and suing Ford, class action, for defect in design/workmanship. Anybody know a good attorney? I figure there are several million of us with these trucks and this problem. Talk about de-valuation of an investment. Both my 1997 and 2000 have this problem and Ford has to knows it is out there and didnt fix it. Take a close look at yours!

4.2 liter V6 has adequate power for regular driving. Solid Transmission. Very Reliable Nice looking truck.

Weakness:

When towing, it will struggle at times. Fuel economy is a tad bit sub-par. Seats are not the most comfortable out there. Poor crash test rating.

I bought this truck brand new back in 1998. This truck is about to roll over the 100,000 mile mark. I have only had two parts fail on me (the idle air control valve and the heater core)in over five and a half years of owning this pickup. In my opinion, thats not too shabby at all. Actually, thats damn good now that i think about it!!! I hope to get at least 50,000 more miles out of it and i believe that this truck will not disapoint me.

bad gas mileage

Great Truck !! Bought my 97 truck brand new, and other than basic general maintenance, it's been a peach. Very reliable, good power, comfortable, looks great, held up very well after 90,000 miles. Now granted, my truck has never really been off-road, and is garage kept, but for a big truck I would have expected more engine problems (4.6 L V8), transmission problems, brakes, etc. But it's just been fabulous. This is the first Ford truck I've ever owned, and now I'm considering keeping this truck and getting a used Explorer. People ask me why I don't get a new truck, but hell, there's nothing wrong with the one I have now !
