Weakness:

its lite in the back end, suggest you put weight there if you drive in snow.

so far its been been towed once because of a very over acting fuel pump shut, the four wheel drive has been fixed and still act's up and it makes alot of sounf in the drive train which makes me nervous and the starter sounds like its ready to die!

Strength:

Simple durabality, decent comfort

Weakness:

Fuel hog for a 2 wheeldrive, 3.0 liter v6

Reliable, not very cost effective. Poor fuel economy, mid teen, to 18 mpg on long interstate trips at speeds under 70. Comfort on long trips, better than average, with extended cab. My third since 1986, and last.

Weakness:

Passenger room. I list this as a weakness but if you're getting a Ranger you should know already that you're not going to have a lot of passenger room. I can fit one passenger and 2 in the back because of the extended cab but if I were one of the two in the back I'd want to be only there for an hour or two max.

I've only had this car for a few days but I've already put close to 850 miles on it. This thing is a BEAST. I've owned a Ford Escort and a Dodge Intrepid in the past and every time I've increased in engine size. This car is by FAR the best I've used. The acceleration is NOTHING like my dad's F-150....I can go from dead stop to 75 miles per hour in no time without spinning my rear tires at all. I don't know what it is but I've fallen in love. The interior cab is nearly silent and the stereo system is to die for.

I would recommend this car for any use. I compared mine with my dad's and it's roughly 6-8 inches shorter in length and only about an inch or two shorter in height. The tires are the same size and the only difference is that my dad's is an extended cab F-150.

My first tank averaged close to 26 miles per gallon. WAY over the list estimate. (95% highway miles)

Can't comment on the hauling power as I haven't needed to haul anything yet though from what I can tell, it should have no problems doing so.

Runs great and good gas mileage

Weakness:

transmission in 1996. coolant system in 2001. oxygen sensors go out quickly and so does the idol control

I work with my truck everyday. This is the second ranger I have owned. My first was a 1996. I was able to get 328,000 miles out of it before I traded it in. I was able to get 290,000 miles on my 2001, before I had to put a new engine in it. I am very impressed with these style trucks. They run well and get good gas mileage.

My next one will be a 4x4.

This is an update from my review in July, 2005. I have nothing but good things to say about my Ford Ranger. It has been an excellent vehicle, period! I just took it in on Friday to the dealership on 01/26/2007, and had some routine maintenance done; transmission flush, fuel filter, spark plugs, new serpentine belt, and oil change. I have always done the spark plugs and oil change myself, but it's been a cold winter and I didn't want to freeze! LOL.
Anyway, I now have 162,452 miles on my Ford Ranger-yes, one hundred sixy two thousand, four hundrend and fifty two. I still, have not had any problems. It has been awesome. Since I bought it brand new, I have always changed the oil at 3000 miles, routinely changed the fuel filter, and other minor maintenance. Not much else to say. If you are thinking about getting one, do it.

Strength:

Compact, Well put together. Great off road vehicle. Nice Styling. No Regrets on buying this vehicle.

Weakness:

3.0 a little weak but has potential. Interior space is small for a big person.

After Graduating high school I Got a job and needed to buy a Used truck. I've always been a die hard Ford guy but I thought about trying something different for a little while but after test driving a Dodge ram and a Chevy S-10 neither one Impressed me as much As the Ford Ranger That I purchased. This truck is awesome every where I go I get good praise from everyone about how good it looks. I purchased it with the 3.0 and 5 speed with O.D auto trans 3.73 gears and OFF ROAD PACKAGE. The gas milleage was around 15MPG But after Installing a Flowmaster exhaust K&N Airfilter and the Tornado and cut a 4" by 6" hole in the airbox the gas milleage went to around 22MPG. I Treat my vehicle a lot better than most people at 20 years old so opinions will differ but I have never had to put my truck in the shop, nothing major has went wrong with and it's got 123,350 miles on it still running strong tranny seems a little week but so far holding good. The motor seemed a little week at first but after my mods it has gained a lot of pep. This truck is great offroad and on with a low center of gravity even afer i added a 3" lift kit and added 33" tires. The interior room is kinda small and I wish that I had gotten the four door option. But overall a great truck. My friends have F-l50s and Silverados and Dodge Rams but in My opinion this truck is a better all around purchase if you don't have any children cause the back jump seats are practically useless.

Strength:

OK gas, great power (I recommend using a K&N air filter to increase power)

Weakness:

I don;t know if it's me or the truck but brakes.

Great truck until some things started going wrong. Rear leaf springs went bad, had to replace transmission when I blew it out in 2nd gear(Auto Trans). But overall still a great truck. Power wise is good, I recommend the 4.0L V6. For offroad it gets the job done. Tires I recommend getting Cooper ATRs put on instead of the stock or once you need new tires.
