Strength:

Plenty of room to haul. Good room for a tall guy. Handles alright.

Weakness:

I4 engine needs a little boost on hills.

I'm amazed with the Ranger. I bought mine from a guy who was going to junk it for $300. The body is all rusted out but that is to be expected in Minnesota. The milage on the truck was 168,000 M and it was used to tow a 16-20' camper. The truck doesn't get the best gas milage but the 4x4 is great for Minnesota winters. I would definately buy another one.
Plenty of room for a 6'5" guy.

Weakness:

The entire #@&&ed thing. This is no joke, my only salvation from this truck would be to have it stolen. That would make the best thing about this Ranger my own personal insurance policy.

I had a Volvo that was not as expensive as the Ranger to simply keep running. I thought I was becoming agorophobic....afraid to ever leave my house again...but it's really this #@&&ed truck. I am too terrorfied to take the thing onto the interstate. I am scared to death to take it out in wind, rain, snow and ice in the mountains...FORGET IT. I will not even pull into the full service gas station anymore for fear of the dreaded words, "Mam, you need to come look at this here..." One mechanic said the thing reminded him of a woman with PMS. And for the love of life, if you are a woman alone driving The Antichrist, make sure you find a strong man who will take the spare tire off the screw its mounted on (underneath) and put it in the bed where you can get to it.
As I write this, the Antichrist is in the shop for the 12th time in 5 weeks. No one can figure out why it won't start. Now I am told to tow it to the dealership for an $80 Star test on the computer chip...something seems to keep burning it up....hey, maybe it's Mercury in retrograde.
I absolutely despise this truck. If it will ever turn on again, I am cutting my losses as fast as I can and getting rid of it.

Strength:

Good acceleration, decent ride

Weakness:

driver's seat is collapsing by the door, repairs are expensive (clutch, brakes, mass airflow sensor)

Pretty reliable truck overall. Glad I got the 4.0L - wish I got the a/t. It has the original battery with 116k on it and the body is in near-perfect shape. Hoping to keep her for another 116,000 miles (but it's a Ford so it probably won't happen!).

It's a ford, need i go on?

Weakness:

weaknesses?- it's a ford, does it get any worse?

It really sucks, it has a 2.8 liter v6 and no power to spare. it can't accelerate worth beans and it has too much trouble braking to a smooth stop. i doesn't handle at all with anything in the bed. No room in the interior. I'm only 5'8" and i feel uncomefortable. My six foot friends are even more uncomefortable.

Strength:

Gas mileage, EXCELLENT BODY STYLE, man this is a great-looking truck! Very little maintenance. Great looking truck. Good feel and reliable. Did I mention it is a great-looking truck?

Weakness:

2.3L 4-cyl engine could use a little more power. Few options, but who needs them.

The Ford Ranger is a great truck. Period. I have driven mine for a while now and I love it. If you get the 4-cyl. though, opt for the 5-speed manual transmission. If I could go back in time, I would probably get the 4.0L 6-cyl. Although the little 2.3L will still roast a tire with the 5-speed! The highest I've ever gotten it up to is only about 80 m.p.h., but it got there in no-time. I've driven it up North Carolina mountain logging roads and it climbs them just as well as a 4X4. Has just as much power as an S-10 and looks a lot better too. My friend has a 2001 Chevrolet S-10 and got it stuck in a steep part of his yard and I had to pull him out!

Reliable, Fun to drive, Attractive

Weakness:

Slow...( better get the 4.0 liter V6), Manual transmission gets old...Seating is limited to two Average size people or three on the small side.

1999 Ford Ranger XLT Super Cab Step-side
2.5L 4Cyl engine, 5-speed Manual Trans.
Full Power Options ( except for the engine!!)

I leased this truck August 23, 1999 for a three year term.
The payments are wonderful, just $199.00 per month!
There are only two aspects of this vehicle I find discouraging. The 2.5l engine is extremely slow! I mean slow! The tranny gets on your nerves as it is a bit jumpy. Overall I love my ranger, if I had it to do over again, I would have spent the extra money and request the 4.0liter V6 and automatic transmission. Over all I give this 2.5l Ranger a 3 out of 5 stars. It is reliable, fun to drive, and solid.
I plan to purchase the truck next August when the lease is out. With around $1,000.00 in addons: Flowmaster Exhaust, Granatelli Mass Air Flow Sensor, High flow air-induction kit from Kurtz Kustomz, and a Super Chip from SuperChips, inc. I am pushing 165 to 170 horsepower. More than the V6. With a few more addons, she'll be pretty sweet. I hope to add:

a 4-6 drop kit, 17 or 18 inch wheels, low profile tires, tinted windows, toneau cover, and if I'm feeling saucy...a 4.6liter Supercharged V8 from a Mustang GT...never know...

I'm 17 yrs old this was my first vehicle I loved it. I would still have it to this day if it wasnt for the neglegence of farmers and their irrigations. To make a long story short I rolled my truck and should be dead now but am very much alive thanks to the durability of rollbars. It was very early in the morning around 2am me and a friend were traveling down the dirt road that i travel daily to get to and from my house to my sisters and back its the quickest way. when the farmers irrigation had gotten stuck and hadnt moved for a while so the dirt road was very very muddy infact when we got out of the truck we were having a hard time standing up because we were slipping in the mud . The responding deputy sheriff (scott christopher) even fishtailed and almost collided with my overturned truck in the mud when he was approaching the vehicle with his spotlight. The recor (Jeffs service center) slipped in the mud with the brake on and the emergency brake pulled every time jeff pulled the lever his truck went towards mine instead of my truck flipping back over like it was supposed to do. My father had to get in the recor and drive it forward so that jeff could flip my truck back over

Strength:

Longevity it has over 108k on it.

Weakness:

All kinds of problems, and it looks like I am not the only one.

First, let me say there has been many problems with this truck. Within the first year that I owned it -- it was in the shop more than 8 times. Fixing the "Check Engine Light", then I had a bout with the door bell chime deciding that it wants to go off while going down the highway (only way to shut it up is if you turn the truck off and try doing that while going 60mph). If you pull the fuse, then you have a problem with other NON ESSENTIALS like the gas guage and the speedometer. After that got ironed out, it is a halfway decent truck, however the check engine light came on after the warranty was out on it, and has been on ever since. Very few MAJOR problems.

Peppy 3.0 V6, and the appearance is unbeatable. The best bang for the buck.

Weakness:

Not as much power as I would like to see. I really don't care for the governor also. Gas mileage is a freaking joke. I feel like I have a 351W under the hood sometimes this truck drinks so much.

I love my truck, though at times I wish I had a bit more torque. It's a truck with off road characteristics so it's not really made for speed anyways. The appearance of the trailhead can not be beat it is by far the best looking truck in it's class. From my experience most ladies seem to like it too, and hey fellas thats always a plus. Those rear ABS really come in handy also.

Ride. Build, power (4.0 V-6) comfort. It handles great

Stock wheels were only 14"

I bought this in 1995. Used, with 3890 miles on it. Its a 4.0 V-6, XLT std cab longbed, with a/c. this has been the best truck i have owend. It now has 130,000 miles on it. Only two things have gone wrong with it, both at 50,000 and 105000. On is the fuel sending unit[ twice ] and the other is the brake light switch[ twice ]. I will , when ready replace it with anther ranger. One other thing i am still on the origanal clutch. I did upgrade to 15" rims and tires. This did not effect the preformance too much
